By "fun to watch" I mean the ones where it actually feels like Ash and crew are on an adventure, which is supposed to be the whole point of the show. In OS for example you had episodes like them nearly drowning in the not-titanic, or them getting attacked by giant pokemon etc. An episode where they just go "look we've reached this random destination, we met a pokemon and solved some random problem for him" arn't fun.

The problem with most battles in Pokemon is that they just feel like rock-em-sock-em robots and the players trade blows until one of them keels over (So I guess it's kinda accurate to the game in that way, funny enough).

Usually I only bother checking out the show during leagues because that's the only time it feels like the trainers have any sort of overall strategy for their battles. They'll actually switch out their Pokemon, or use the field to their advantage, that sort of thing.

XY's battles are okay but they have a ridiculous amount of stock footage (and it's not hidden well, there are lot of editing tricks you can use to make it less noticeable). A little bit is understandable, but they even ended 3 out of the 4 gym matches they've had so far with that same shot of Pikachu firing thunderbolt. I kinda figured with Pokemon having so much filler they'd save their money to make the gym battles really impressive.

But that's not true at all. He has many more pokemon, many more friends, many more victories, participated in 6 leagues and won one, completed the battle frontier, getting further and further each time. He has a large amount of extremely strong pokemon, if he wanted to be a dick about it, he could just use Charizard, Snorlax, Pikachu, and whatever else are his strongest pokemon over and over for each match and probably win easily. That's not the way he works though, it was even commented on in the episode when he left Charizard in the Valley to train. Misty said something about the fact that he had been using Charizard excessively in his gym battles and none of his other pokemon were getting a chance to fight.

Just because he's progressing slowly doesn't mean he's not progressing. I imagine a goal like becoming a pokemon master isn't very easy, you use Gary as an example, but he just quit, Misty isn't much further to her goal of becoming a "Water pokemon master" whatever that is, and Brock gave up on breeding to become a doctor.

They're putting a good amount of effort in the fillers, I don't remember a single filler badly animated.

That's the thing, XY doesn't have these (aside maybe about the pacing that is sometimes hit or miss).

On the animation side, the only long-running anime above it these past years is HunterxHunter 2011, and XY even shits on a lot of 1-2 cours series.

The group of characters is really fun, they even have the best little girl since Kaga Rin and one of the only great roles of Kaji Yuuki. It's still a kid anime so the characters are simple yes, but they do have better personalities than all the archetyped characters you see on the run-of-the-mill-anime.

This I will agree with, it is sad when I can leave a series for a few episodes and pick it back up and find I didn't miss anything at all. XY has been going on for 63 episodes and not much has happened except in the last 4 episodes. Ash doesn't have a full team, Serena just caught her first few Pokemon and Ash only has a few badges. It took 63 episodes to do all of this? Season 1 did nearly everything in 50 and had to add filler to slow the series down, XY is too slow and there is too much filler.
