Should I be playing this with the PS3 sprites or originals?
Where you expecting one?
PS3fags would rather have pretty soulless sprites than R07's expressive midgets.
Also unlike Higurashi Umineko has +100 amazing tracks, would you really want to have voices over worldenddominator or ressurectedreplayer and ruin the moment? Of course not.
Original sprites are more expressive and the simplicity of them actually allows you to project more realistic qualities to them whereas the PS3 ones look like generic anime cut-outs. Also the backgrounds are more immersive since they're actual 3D places with a filter on them instead of weirdly angled stiff drawings.
The voices themselves are actually pretty fitting but the scenes flow better when you read at your own pace instead of waiting for the voice cues. Overall I'd highly suggest going with the originals first. Plus you have more custom Openings with the originals than you do for the PS3 ones.
Original sprites are horrible. Use PS3 sprites. They still have the crazy facial expressions and they don't look like they were made by a deviantart user.
Only argument the vanilla only fags have, and it's retarded. The ps3 expressions are great and there are way more than in the vanilla. Deal with it faggot.
PS3 sprites or bust, the voices are great as well. People saying the voices cover up the music are stupid, you can still hear the music perfectly fine. Most of the reason people like the original sprites is just because that's what they are accustomed to, and it's become Stockholm Syndrome. Use the PS3 sprites with the voices, the voices were even picked out by Ryu himself. Ryu wrote Umineko with voices in mind, so not using them would be like spitting in his face.
Don't forget that the filtered photos are photos of the actual island. I thought it was cool as shit that the island actually existed. I thought the photos were just stock stuff and that the island was just a made up one at first. The PS3 backgrounds just don't compare.
Now I'm kind of sad that I didn't get to experience it with voice acting. Then again reading it when it was translated and arguing about it on /jp/ until the next episode was out is what made it so enjoyable.
I have really mixed feelings about Umineko. The parts where they argue with red and blue text are really cool, but I hate how the solutions to the murders are never explained. Battler arguing with Erika over closed rooms and stuff was the best part, I wish it had more of that and less bullshit padding it out.
>would you really want to have voices over worldenddominator or ressurectedreplayer and ruin the moment?
Also, don't get me wrong, I like Ohara's voice, but for the PS3 Umineko's dialogs she made way way waaaay too many fucking dramatic pauses! I ended up skipping a lot of her lines.
Honestly the whole thing is already incredibly long as it is, if you decide to listen to all the voiced lines, it will take you twice the amount of time.
> Also the backgrounds are more immersive since they're actual 3D places with a filter on them instead of weirdly angled stiff drawings
Are you damn kidding me, you're beyond retarded.
And the vanilla sprites aren't anything original. They just have more deformed faces you obviously don't see everywhere. Erika is ltterally the same but less detailed/well done and with not as much poses as the ps3's.
Also, Goat Kun and Lambda are 100 times better in the ps3 games.
The history of the mansion is really interesting as well. The first floor is completely western in style while the second story is completely Japanese in style.
Going there must be a hell of a trip for an Umineko fan.
Umineko has only 2 or 3 characters that are directly related to Higurashi, but aside from that is a completely different story.
If you happen to like pic related you'll want to read Higurashi to understand her better.
>The PS3 backgrounds just don't compare.
Indeed. Photos with a shitty filters can't be compared with detailed as fuck hand drawn backgrounds. Let alone the fact that they're available in HQ.
There's no such thing as an actual Rokkenjima!
That picture you posted there is a western Mansion in Tokyo and same goes for the exterior and interiors of the main family house.
Now I don't know if the few pictures of Niijima were actually taken at Niijima, but most likely they weren't.
>huurrrr I disagree so you are retarded
We're all just arguing opinions, dickface. The goats looked way better in the original since they look like normal men with huge goatheads which is way spookier than the HUEG marvel comics-esque super goat men.
Does anyone have the pictures mocking how retarded the backgrounds are in the PS3 versions?
Just to remind you, we're only saying OP should go original + no voices for his first reading. PS3 sprites and voices are a bonus for later.
>The ps3 expressions are great and there are way more than in the vanilla.
Also that's like, your opinion.
Always nice to see a Umineko thread.
Roll to see your power level in the Umineko-verse.
Let alone the fact that photos aren't adapted for all the Meta stuff or night/rain modes, and that they're just a lazy way. Why the fuck would you use photos with drawn sprites ? Yeah, because doing so requires way less work, that is all.
The goats are strong magic creatures. That's simply way more logical that way, and because Ryukishi can't draw muscles for shit. Just a reminder that most changes are logical, it's the same as in Higurashi with Shion's and Takano's clothes that weren't adapted for summer.
>The ps3 expressions are great and there are way more than in the vanilla.
Say that to every vanilla fags ever genius.
Depends on what else you care about?
If you like well done voices, go with PS3. If you don't like voices and want to listen to music while making voices yourself go with Original.
>What the hell were the animators thinking?
Better than you clearly. If they changed stuff that there clearly is a reason for that. Not even sure the two files you linked are supposed to be the same.
That's the same text really and same music too. The PS3 is high resolution and 16:9, while the original is on 640x480 4:3.
If you prefer hearing Japanese voices then go with PS3, if you prefer to fully enjoy the music then go for the original PC version
If you're the type of person that has an imagination and likes to read then go with the originals.
If you don't like to think and like soulless Clamp level art then by all means "read" the PS3 version.
I'm pretty sure Umineko puts forth that there is an answer and you can reach it if you put enough effort into understanding the story and its characters. This also implies you might have to change some personal views you have in order to do this, and some people are too prideful for that. Just see the reaction of every anon every time Yasu is brought up.
And the thing is, people take the whole "truth doesn't matter" out of context in a petty attempt to derail the message of the story. That was directed to Ange (the only person that truly deserved to know what happened, not the goats that were unrelated to the whole thing and only wanted the truth for self-satisfaction), because Ange was in a spiral of self-destruction and knowing what happened would be the cherry on the cake for her, since she had given up on living and Battler wanted her to move on and stop looking for justifications for her hatred of Eva. In Ange's case, it really was for the best she'd move on and forget about the whole thing, since it would only lead her to destruction.
Well, those people are pushing their shitty niche opinion on everyone else while saying it's the absolute truth. Same as the "lol 480p filtered photos are better than hand drawn backgrounds" or "SOULEEEEEESS" for the sprites when it's plain stupid >>121259200
Vanilla only fags are such a cancer.
The art in the manga is really fucking good, and it does a good job at condensing the story a bit.
I wouldn't suggest anyone read it before the VN since some nice little details and dialogue is lost, but it's a fantastic supplementary material.
>Clamp level art
Why the fuck are you talking about Clamp and its stickmen ?
>I wouldn't suggest anyone read it before the VN since some nice little details and dialogue is lost
I do. It covers mostly everything and even adds more hints. If you're just not into VNs it's far enough, same for simply beginning the serie with it and reading the VN later to enjoy the musics.
But ironically Ange only achieved that once she actually found the truth. That's what I really can't agree with Battler's ways. People need to face the truth, cry, and then move on.
That's exactly what she did in EP8. Why did Battler try so hard to prevent her from opening that book again? She instantly became a better and happy person after that.
Except Higurashi animu is one of the worst adaptations ever; it miss the point of the story and overdoes the horror in a stupid way. Not to mention that is full of QUALITY and it lacks the awesome music from the sound novel.
No, I'm not talking about myself. Read the first arc in vanilla and swapped for the rest of the serie without hearing much opinions. It's simply that I keep hearing those vanilla only fags shouting everytime because muh original and it's just cringe worthy.
>JUST IGNORE THE TRUTH TRUST ME
You can't just turn off your curiosity like you turn off a switch.
Chiru Battler is a faggot.
If you don't read the VN then you miss the perfect timings of many of the songs. Also not a few songs have a significant meaning simply because of the scenes they are associated with. If you just read the manga you miss out on that.
It's like listening to 2hu songs without ever having played the shooter.
Voices distract you from the music or don't let you enjoy it to the fullest. And Umineko's music is too damn good for that. They set up the ambient in a rather nice way too. And like that other anon said, it can be annoying waiting for the voices to kick in between each line to keep reading. I don't know about you but it was easier to read Fate/SN with the voices off than waiting for every voice to finish its line before moving on.
And personally I like it when I'm reading and I'm imagining the character's voices and then checking out later how they actually sound like with the VAs. Or reading with the original sprites simply because they're the ones R07 made himself and while at the beginning they feel weird they slowly grow in you. You can see the guy actually put effort into it.
>She instantly became a better and happy person after that.
Did you forget the part where she tried to commit suicide an it took the entire Ushiromiya family to convince her that it was worth living after that.
>then you miss the perfect timings of many of the songs
You'll ALWAYS miss out things if you don't read a support idiot. Best is obviously to see everything to have the full experience, but doesn't matter what is the one in first. Besides the anime obviously.
>Voices distract you from the music or don't let you enjoy it to the fullest. And Umineko's music is too damn good for that.
No, they don't.
> And personally I like it when I'm reading and I'm imagining the character's voices and then checking out later how they actually sound like with the VAs.
Hey, know what, you should also remove the music, so that you can also start imagining which could be played in the differrent scenes. Or wait, remove the sprites and backgrounds too, it's also more fun to get to imagine how the places and characters look.
I recently played this and I have to say it has the best soundtrack in anything ever. Holy shit how is it so good.
Also, 5 > 3 > 4 >
8> 7 > 1 > 2 > 6
I read the first half with voices and PS3 sprites, and Chiru vanilla. Loved them both, but the voices definitely enhanced my enjoyment.
>Beato's voice in general
I loved the OST and the voices didn't distract me from enjoying the music. There was a point where I played worldend constantly everyday, Ep 3 with the Rosa/Maria scene wasn't any worse due to the voices and worldend still stood out.
>No, they don't.
They can for some people, you can't blame them for that.
>Hey, know what, you should also remove the music, so that you can also start imagining which could be played in the differrent scenes. Or wait, remove the sprites and backgrounds too, it's also more fun to get to imagine how the places and characters look.
Have you ever read a book that isn't a picture book? Also why are you so butthurt about someone's opinion? I never said OP should do that, I'm just stating my reasons to do it.
She committed suicide in EP4 as well, when she didn't know the truth. Ange had been dysfunctional and depressed for 12 years and all because she followed fantasies like "it's all Eva's fault" and "I can meet my family again".
Clearly learning the truth was the only way to get her out from that hell. As risky as it was, the alternative still led her to her death. And telling her "no your family was happy happy" simply could never work.
> They can for some people, you can't blame them for that.
Then just fucking say that's a matter of opinion instead of affirming it like it's some truth you dipshit.
"Voices distract you from the music or don't let you enjoy it to the fullest"
>read a support
What? It does matter what you read first because the details of the story and spoilers and truths about characters are only learned once. It's better to uncover those things alongside their accompanying music for the full impact.
>Ange had been dysfunctional and depressed for 12 years and all because she followed fantasies like "it's all Eva's fault" and "I can meet my family again".
Witches' Tanabata practically says she could have moved on with Eva and led a happy life with her, but her obsession with the truth ruined it all. If she had let go since the start the whole war against Eva wouldn't have happened. Also her hatred of Eva isn't a "fantasy", Eva was actually willing to make a family with Ange, but after Ange rejected her she lost her shit. Ange couldn't let go of her family and move on, that was the start of her downfall.
>She committed suicide in EP4 as well
The scene in which she jumped off the building? She knew there was a net. And the scene with Battler has more to do with the meta world than the real world.
You get your explanations for episodes 1-4 in Episode 7 when Leon destroys the illusion of the Golden Witch.
When he says illusions to illusions, it means that it didn't happen as it was reported. For example, the door wasn't locked (as long as it doesn't contradict the red truth)
I liked all of them to be fair, I just struggled getting through 6 for some reason
Maybe I should put it above 2 for this alone though
BTW the manga version of EP8 sheds light on a lot more stuff than the VN does, and several ambiguous points are clarified.
R07 himself confirmed that it's all stuff that he asked the mangaka to add and therefore it's canon.
Too bad it's hard to even find the raws.
Manga is drawn by different people, though.
>Maybe I should put it above 2 for this alone though
> Not for motherfucking Erika being even more motherfucking Erika than in EP5
Don't you mean motherfucking Willard H. Wright?
This guy reminds me of Jotaro, a terrible MC but a good supporting one. His battle scene with Dlanor in EP8 was based as fuck.
What about the color pages, are they done by the respective manga artists?
In defense of Ange, if one's entire family gets wiped out, it's probably normal to become depressed.
Ange acts irrational, but can you really blame her?
> Since we're jus getting 1 on 2 covers as the english edition is always an omnibus release, it means we'll never get this a cover
Got damnit. I wished Yen press used the last cover of EP4 with Beato, the one with the two Battler is terrible.
Did they ever give an explanation for them removing the background in every covers of Higurashi and Umineko anyway ?
Literally everything in it was awesome. The George "plotwist" at the end still makes me laugh. And Erika was perfect too.
Could somebody translate this tweet?
If Google translate is right, it says something about Ryukishi writing.
I'm not saying she should have forgotten about them. Is understandable she missed her parents. But she wasn't completely alone, and Eva didn't hate her until she made clear she wasn't going to be her ally. She had the chance to be happy, but threw it away in order to search for a truth that was going to amount to nothing, and only led her to a life of pain and loneliness.
Is a bit unfair to say this because she was still a child, but she basically brought it upon herself when she decided to reject her only ally in order to cling to the truth. Eva is not a saint either, and is wasn't fair the way she treated Ange the following years, but at least she had the intention to move on with her at the beginning, something Ange herself lacked.
We're never going to get more of things like this, are we?
Eva was terrible and she triggered all of this by hiding the truth. It's only natural that everyone would start suspecting her and the daughter who lost her family isn't an exception.
Only Ryukishidrones will defend this.
>they totally should have trusted the sole survivor of Rokkenjima who refused to explain how everyone except her was horibly killed! They lacked LOVE!
To be fair her beloved son and husbands were among the victims. Besides the fact she just comes on the island one time every years and that everything happened because of a fucking pack of bombs that were already on the island for a long time.
Something as simple as her just being the bad guy is plain stupid.
well, it's a shitload of work to do something like that. That's nothing you could do in a few days.
Still it's a shame, the sprites are there, and programs for making your own VN too, it's not even that complicated, just a massive amount of writing.
>Eva was terrible and she triggered all of this by hiding the truth.
Ange wasn't interested in the truth until she wanted it to prove her hatred towards Eva. She couldn't accept Eva as her new family and that's when Eva lost her shit. They make a huge point that Ange is hoping she'll get something out of the truth, when in reality she won't
And, to be fair, the story made a point that the media was also bad for harassing Eva in a matter that only concerned, if anything, to the police and the people related to the victims. The whole thing with the witch-hunters was that they wouldn't get anything from opening the catbox other than patting themselves in the back for being oh so smart for solving a huge murder case.
Well then, is a rather cheap logic if you ignore Eva's madness that followed having her son and husband killed. Also is not good to make assumptions without proof.
This. Ange was better off not knowing her parents were a pair of psychopaths that only cared about money.
Although I wonder why didn't Eva lied her way out of this, just to calm people around her. Nobody could prove anything, after all.
Perfectly normal family here, what are you talking about?
>We are connected because we are aunt and niece. But, we are also connected in that I have lost a child, and you have lost your parents.
>And we cannot trick ourselves into thinking of each other as replacements for our lost family.
>Even so, I think of you as my own child.
>So if you......could allow that, then I'd like you to think of me as your mother, and I want you to rely on me for whatever you need.
>Eva had hugged Ange as she said that.
>To the young Ange, Mom was Mom, and Eva definitely wasn't. ......However, she understood the the meaning of those words, and the affection verging on sorrow.
>"If you wish, from the bottom of your heart, for your real mother to return......then you musn't give the position of mother away to somebody else so easily. If your real mother loses her position as your mother, then she will never come back home."
>"Ye, ......yes, Witch-sama. ......Eva oba-san is Eva oba-san. I will certainly never call her Mom. I won't think of her as Mom."
>Ange-chan, if you ever remember how to smile........please show me too.
>I feel that if we do that, we'll be able to remember how to smile even more.
>"To one who wishes for their family to return, such as you, pain and sorrow strong enough to lift that wish to the heavens are necessary. >......Until that day, you mustn't show your smile."
>"You mustn't feel happiness. You musn't feel joy. .........You must never forget the sorrow of losing your family. ......And stay away from the demon who will try to make you forget that, who will try and decieve you. .........Ushiromiya Eva will try and crush that resolve many times with her sweet words. But you must never listen to them, alright...? Eva is a demon who will try and steal away your family for all eternity. *giggle*. No, she actually DID STEAL THEM AWAY."
>"M, my resolve won't be broken...! Until my wish is granted, I certainly will not listen to Eva oba-san's words...!! So please, grant my wish, Witch-sama...!!"
wasn't there that "Stakes valentine" thing in manga form?
I could not find more than two pages, though, any one having the full thing here?
> That Erika
Okay, that's it, I'll draw some Umineko stuff for Valentine's day.
need Battler giving the poor girl mouth to mouth reanimation.
do it, more Umineko art can't hurt.
>Isn't that the "Game master Battler" thing?
Flip the chessboard over and you'll find gold.
Does anyone know where this is from? Seems that every Stake is done in a different artstyle here..
What else would you expect from someone so <cute> <pop> and <cool>?
