The Mom was a shocker to me to, but they way they handled it was perfect. This was a literal GOOD END. There's nothing more I could have asked except for an epilogue where everyone is even happier. It's so beautiful. All these relationships were finally repaired. I love it so much.

This is, so far, the only shoujo manga I've been able to enjoy.

Been looking at Last Game and Akatsuki no Yona, too - are they worth checking out?

I always got the impression it was its magazine's biggest series. It's fairly popular in nipland and has won an award. Now it's over and all that's left is some extra milking. This would seemingly give it good chances but most anime air while the original is still ongoing so that it can be a proper advertisement. Since this series is BASICALLY done I'm not sure there's any incentive to adapt it. So, 50/50. Maybe an even smaller chance than that.

Well a base is just a base, and most of the chapters are dedicated to Mao getting back with her family and Hiro trying to bring his family back together. Furthermore the title of the series refers to the Nakamura family's household and specifically Hina so that's one more thing. Usually when something romance-related happens, there's reference to how Hiro helped Mao with her family or Mao helped Hiro with his.

All in all I'd say it's objectively more about family. I may be persuaded to agree that it's equal parts family and romance but I don't quite see it.

Well it's most definitely not a romance that is like the puppy love that is normally portrayed. It's a romance story with family as the central theme. Both characters have to restore their relationships with their family. With most character it was a platonic love -- such as Hiro and his siblings or Mao with her new step-mother and step-sister. But Mao and Hiro were family to each other all along, and their relationship happened to be on a romantic level.
