WEBMs WITH SOUND
PREPARE YOUR ANIMU WEBMS
I was going to call bullshit but then I went there.
How the hell did this happen? Was there an announcement or something?
You just made my schedule for the next 12 days full.
Didn't moot specifically said that he didn't want webm with sound because "it makes 4chan not an image board" or something along those lines, in his last q&a?
Well moot is truly dead it seems.
Who cares, /r/ing "LETS ALL LOVE LAIN!" with sound.
Did you really have to link the thing that is literally at the top of every page at the moment?
Fucking finally, I've waited for this moment too long.
Niggers like Funimation are going to come after /a/ if shitheads post dub garbage. Assholes will do everything they can to post copyright shit here now to shut us the fuck down. Do you think 4chan will get some ultra-extensive copyright detection system like what youtube was forced to get to scan for copyright content? The board would be dead and neutered.
If you can't figure out how to do it why are you here in the first place?
Can we make a rule to keep the sound in the webms slightly low? That way nobodies ears are hurt and they don't get removed.
Also, Gif is dead.
Well /a/ doesn't even have webm threads or whatnot, webms are just used to post scenes from currently airing shows so I trust /a/
But other boards will definitely have this issue
Screamers usually don't pop up in the beginning so you'll have the volume on by the end anyway
I'm using dollchan and you can mute webms through it too.
So let me get this straight: they want everybody to put their hands up?
Presumably /wsg/ and /gif/ are test boards right now, then the functionality will be rolled out to other boards.
It was like when webms were first tested and /g/ was flooded with webm threads.
Don't you see how everyone overreact when there are some changes? I keep seeing "baww 4chan is finishied where do we go /a/?" and other doom and gloom shit for almost 3 years and yet nothing fucking happens.
Not much. Nyaa still exists, plenty of manga sites still exist, we share shit via mega or other sites right on the front page all day and we've been doing so for 11 years on 4chan; even longer before that.
On KC we have had sound webms since day one and you could upload a file far greater than 4mb.
>That background music.
This pleases me.
I hope this means changes are in order with how they run the site after last week autism fest with the leak.
This is how they rolled out soundless webms too, not announce it but roll it out to 1 or 2 boards first. I'm glad if they allow sound webms now since I think it set us back for a while to only allow no sound webms. They're videos, not gifs, and now unless you were good at organizing them you're going to have muted webms and sound webms in the same folders. I'm excited for the future now that sound webm is the standard on all chan sites.
I wonder how much longer we're going to have /f/ around. OC doesn't happen anywhere near as much anymore and with sound webm it's going to become even more irrelevant.
It's too bad too, /f/ is such a great board.
Yes, which is why it's only enabled on /gif/ and /wsg/. You know, the boards that are already exclusively for moving pictures. Only now they aren't gimped so the boards actually serve a purpose now. moot's logic was sound for the rest of the boards, but it never made sense with those two.
Basically, we know have three video boards while the rest of the site remains an image board.
In case anyone ever wanted an image viewer with better bloat
Sweet mother of fuck, someone actually animated Coldsteel.
>they didn't subtitle the penguin
Lazy fuckers. If I understood penguin, I wouldn't be watching subtitles.
Listening to music while browsing will become a chore when this inevitably expands to /a/.
/gif/ is a porn board. It might make sense to put them on /h/ for a better split between 2D and 3D though.
>it's not an image board if we add image replies
I'm just saying that it's fair to think that putting sound videos everywhere will lead to /v/-tier webm threads taking off and filling boards with youtube comments. I'm sure the better boards could use it responsibly, but it would fuck up other ones.
It makes more sense for /gif/ and /wsg/ to support soundums than other boards. Just like it doesn't make sense for them to support non-animated files. Not every board supports .swf or .pdf, so it's not too far fetched to think they'll keep board specific file support for this too.
Sound is fucking tiny compared to video. Getting rid of it would be like >because file size would be like loading a truck up with boulders, and then complaining about all that heavy air in the tires.
Besides, it's not like they don't cap file size.
>mfw newfags stop downloading their anime and start watching it directly from chained webms posted on /a/
>implying I won't want to listen to the webms
I wager three lolis that someone will write a ricer extension to automate that the month it hits /a/.
you can set up a batch file to drag and drop files on. if you make one change to the registry you can even have it as a right-click context command. something like this maybe
ffmpeg -i %1 -t 300 -c:v libvpx -b:v 4*8388608/300*0.975 -vf scale=-1:360,subtitles=%1.mkv C:\%1-1.webm &&
ffmpeg -ss 5:00 -i %1 -t 300 -c:v libvpx -b:v 4*8388608/300*0.975 -vf scale=-1:360,subtitles=%1.mkv C:\%1-2.webm &&
ffmpeg -ss 10:00 -i %1 -t 300 -c:v libvpx -b:v 4*8388608/300*0.975 -vf scale=-1:360,subtitles=%1.mkv C:\%1-3.webm &&
ffmpeg -ss 15:00 -i %1 -t 300 -c:v libvpx -b:v 4*8388608/300*0.975 -vf scale=-1:360,subtitles=%1.mkv C:\%1-4.webm &&
ffmpeg -ss 20:00 -i %1 -t 300 -c:v libvpx -b:v 4*8388608/300*0.975 -vf scale=-1:360,subtitles=%1.mkv C:\%1-5.webm
Or add a shortcut to the batch file in shell:sendto, it's what I do for PNGCrush and stuff.
Because i just don't care enough to wade through the tons of shit I don't care enough about to frequent the place. Its like going to /k/ for raifu threads. I just don't care enough.
/po/ is the best board.
You should really get out more. As great as /a/ is, people who only use it, or any of the other large boards really, tend to develop bad habits.
I'm always impressed with how much actual knowledge /an/ has. As soon as you get past the rate my dog threads you find people who can recite entire documentaries on an obscure deep sea fish at you. It's great.
It was disabled at moot's request and reluctantly on the part of our new admin. He may have "unintentionally" fucked it up a few times before moot finally got it completely barred.
I guess I'm going to have to start saving webms.
Do webm thumbnails show up on your computers? I never got into it because not seeing a thumbnail makes it hard to know what I'm file I'm selecting.
I have my computer volume set to 100% and the output hooked up to a stereo receiver, so I can control my media volume through software controls (this way, I can control MPC-HC with the scroll wheel of a wireless mouse). Therefore, when I open a webm like >>>/wsg/542393, where the volume is already set a bit high, it reverberates through my apartment at maximum volume. I don't like this, guys. Plus, people can add whatever sound they want to them. I don't want to have to deal with screamer webms on /a/ too.
>Didn't moot specifically said that he didn't want webm with sound because "it makes 4chan not an image board" or something along those lines, in his last q&a?
He also said that the mere mention of other image boards by name constitutes advertising, and is thus not allowed. I think it's fair to say that his reasoning for a lot of his policies was shaky at best.
