Evangelion isn't some fine art that only people who know the craft of the medium can appreciate; it's considered an anime you'd watch in highschool alongside Cowboy Bebop and FLCL for a reason. Besides, most people who claim Evangelion is the greatest thing ever haven't even seen Gunbuster.

>comparing mediums to mediums

That's where I disagree entirely; there's an entire academia around literature, completely unfounded in the media of anime. I'm someone who notices a direct correlation, however, that the more anime one watches, the more they recognize that Evangelion isn't that great, at least, not deserving of the iconic emblem of what Japanese animation is.

Not to mention, if we're talking about merits of the genre, Evangelion is by no means the first mecha anime to deconstruct or subvert typical mecha tropes; the only remarkable thing it did was to subvert otaku's fantasies.

>It's not Deep if every explanation by 'art lovers' are the same.

This is affectingly stupid. What constitutes as 'deep' is a highly subjective view placed on the media; not something that innately comes from the work itself.

>>119783204
>You're the one comparing mediums to mediums you fucking hypocrite. Anime is pop culture, it's silly to judge it by the same standards as academic literature or art-house cinema.

Can you explain when I did this?

To put it more into terms that you might understand, here's an analogy; not comparing mediums but to understand the strange phenomenon of how people react to a work: someone who doesn't watch a lot of films boldly claiming that Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction is one of the greatist films.

This is what Evangelion is in the animation medium. They do not know what they're saying. You're focused on the fact that I compared it to highschool, instead of the reality that there is a crafted opinion and there is a novice opinion. Evangelion is great for those who are relatively new to the field of anime because it's more of a popular icon than anything. Yes, Evangelion subverted tropes with its characters, but at the end of the day, it's not as complex or deep as a novice would think.

Gunbuster wasn't originally conceived or written by Anno. The story was first conceived by Okada, Yamaga wrote the screenplay, then Anno threw it out and in the end the storyboards were drawn without a screenplay. It was a huge mess and this kind of shit is why you can't judge anime as a single person's creative vision.

are you trying to say movies for "entertainment purposes" like Transfromers or such are not appealing to the emotions but the mind of the audience? if any, this should be the other way around.

the better a film is crafted the better it connects with the audience on both a emotional and intellectual level, that's all there is to it - there is no difference between "cinema" and "film" per se.

'Deep' is overrated.
If it's interesting and convinces the spectator, it's good. It doesn't need twisted symbolism that you can only get after the 20th watch. That's part of the reason Fukumoto's mangas are great, he directly tells you interesting stuff.

There's a difference, the same way comics or graphic novels, with that said I believe that yes you could call everything movie related a movie, and you could call anything related to comics a comic book. But It's also another way to call a movie, for example a summer blockbuster or a cash-grab movie it's a flick(the amazing spider-man 2), a normal criminal thriller it's a movie(Prisoners), a film it's a little higher(The deer hunter) and cinema (the sacrifice).
