Just finished the game and I heard there was an anime. Is it any good?
It's okay, it follows the best characters to the game and VC3 has an OVA too. The anime uses the game's OST and is even animated like the game
>tfw you search for best girl Jane and Google asks you if you meant Jann
Go to bed anon, you're tired
Never called it an attribute, just said it used it.
>The anime uses the game's OST and is even animated like the game
One of the main reasons the anime sucks so much is because its NOT similar to the design of the game. The game has a very distinct style that the anime doesn't replicate in any way.
Sorry, I misunderstood your intentions. It is gone 4am where I am. And I have fucking lectures in the morning. But it's been forever since I've seen a Valkyria Chronicles thread on /a/.
>The game has a very distinct style that the anime doesn't replicate in any way.
It was the most successful attempt to emulate a 2D design in a (sorta) 3D format. The anime not replicating this was a major strike against it before it even aired.
It wasn't released in the US, VC3 is everything good about the other and more, the only problem is that is for the PSP and not PS3.
As for the anime it was just a short 2 episode OVA. It didn't have any major backing so the animation is great but it is still VC. VC3 is a lot darker than VC and VC2, the 422 are a penal sqaud that act like special forces and get screwed over a lot. VC3 also unites the other two series with a whole bunch of cameos by the 7th squad, Class G makes cameos but that is game only.
VC2 would need a lot more than a slightly better paint job to be considered any way good.
Huh, actually sounds good. That said, I'd be wary of the limitations of the PSP when it comes to a game like VC.
>Simple, straightforward designs
>Gritty, semi-realistic take on WW2
>Bright colors and haremshit
>WE ANIME HIGHSCHOOL ANTICS NOW
>Giant gunblades, swords and magic
>WE FINAL FANTASY NOW
>Mediocre at best
>It was the most successful attempt to emulate a 2D design in a (sorta) 3D format.
Are you talking about the game? Because plenty of other games have done that. Dragon Quest VIII is arguably the best looking game on PS2 because is successfully broke the 'uncanney valley' of anime graphics in a 3D world. Valkyria Chronicles also did it successfully. But it did come out 5 years later on a stronger system.
But yes, in the end, the anime failed to emulate it.
I haven't played the second game, but I've heard it said that elements of the gameplay are improved over VC2. Is there any truth to this?
That said, I've little intention of playing VC2 anyway as I can't tolerate the change in art style.
Sega drastically reduced the development budget and changed many key members of the development team. Sega still whines about VC being a failure, despite it selling some 700,000 copies.
Basically, Valkyria Chronicles is the Sega version of Suikoden. A series with endless potential, constantly squandered by low budgets from shareholders.
The cut scenes are anime and cell shading but the game play is VC/VC2 style. You get fewer characters but a lot more options. You can class up anyway for the most part.
Also same thing about what >>119746421 said
But if you do well, you get 4 Valkyria to control.
Not as bad as me. I bought a PS3 just to play Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.
In the end, I ended up getting 15 other games I loved. Including Valkyria Chronicles. PS3 was definitely the best system last gen.
True but if you look at the events it makes sense,
The actual timeline:
VC is the Great War, VC is the big war were legends are made and heroic tales are told
VC3 is the Underside of the Great War, where the losers are working behind the scenes to show that the good guys aren't so good
VC2 is the Low Intensity Civil War or in this case Uprising, so the high school setting is fine for this because the Great War is over and people moved on
#23 Leila Peron - she is Homer Peron's sister and she is into kinky shit.
>VC3 is the Underside of the Great War, where the losers are working behind the scenes to show that the good guys aren't so good
That sounds genuinely interesting. So is VC3 set during the events of VC1, but VC2 isn't?
Frederica Lipps is better.
VC just looks like a standard war game, VC3 looks a lot darker due to it's nature, and VC2 is very light hearted considering that Galia is basically at peace
VC3 is a side story of sorts, the MC of VC3 starts out like Welkin but some stuff happens and he is latter shipped to 422. VC2 happens years after VC/VC3. VC2 is the Civil Uprising, but is no Great War, Welkin and Alicia are retired from service and everything is basically peachy. Everybody goes to the Academy because there are no wars left.
Out of all the qts of all 3 games I always found Margit the prettiest. Is it the drills? Her voice?
Christ, imagine what a decently funded, well-designed VC game would be like!
The point is that it eventually did sell a lot. Which showed the series had promise. So they should have at least given its sequel the same level of budget and time as the first game. And, most important, kept it on the same platform.
Instead, they made a low budget sequel on a system only popular in Japan. Wow...I wonder why interest in the series plummeted....
Because nobody cares about them, even their CO is a shitbag, he doesn't wear his uniform properly and it is implied he is banging Frederica.
There is so much hierarchy:
There's a tiny bit of truth to it, but it's not so impressive that you can claim without dispute that it was an overall improvement in gameplay. Here's some features for better or worse YMMV
>Each class branches into two higher tier classes that each branch into two more as you upgrade
>Tiny maps that connect to each other through the use of flag bases
>Semi-random spawns each encounter (bosses and certain shit stay the same no matter what)
>RNG loot system for R&D and upgrading your classes
>Leveling barely does jack shit in the short run, though depending on the class it does have huge gains if you grind all
50 fucking levels, good luck maxing even one class before you finish the game without some serious time wasting.
>The AI gets smarter as you progress
All this means is the AI is really fucking retarded at the start and can't even move a unit in succession for half the game
The art style doesn't actually change per se unless you're talking about the 2D cardboard cutouts replacing the in-game cutscenes. But the difference between a PSP and a PS3 means during battle the characters look a lot more shitty, especially VC2 which is so lazy everyone uses the same body for each class.
>Not big drills
>Not a bitch
Glad to see someone thinking the same
It's a standard tank, but you can change it into an APC (L,M,H) or L, M, H Tank
>especially VC2 which is so lazy everyone uses the same body for each class.
Fuck that shit. The distinct visual difference between the classes even at a distance was one of the best stylistic (and gameplay) elements of VC1.
Say I have shit taste, but this might be a case to just watch it yourself. I asked the same question a while back, and someone told me to form my own opinion, so I watched it and it was a 6. 6 being Kill la Kill tier and 7 being Chaika tier. I enjoyed it like I did Kill la Kill, but it brings pretty little to the story of you've already played the game. It's reasonably faithful to the game, but did Maximillian with a bit of mediocrity. OP is shounen generic shit, so nothing special there.
It would have been better if the save system worked like that of Fire Emblem games (or at least the GBA and earlier ones, I haven't touched the new ones so I'm not sure how they function)
>Mediocre at best
Nigga, did you play the game? It's the best of the three VC games in terms of pure gameplay.
If it was on the PS3, it would have been even better. It showed its limitations as a PSP game by having smaller levels and often repeated levels as well. But otherwise, in terms of gameplay mechanics, it's the best.
The later missions are so fucking hard that I don't blame anyone. Savescumming isn't even enough for some of the last bosses. It's better just to suck it up and look up a guide. That's the only complaint I have with the first game.
The only reason I like this franchise is for the sisters.
No you are interpreting it wrong. I mean each class has one body, and everyone that's under that class uses that body.
So say you are a shock trooper, you will have a shock trooper body. It doesn't matter if you're a girl or a boy, you will have the same body.
It doesn't even matter if you're one of the main characters, this applies all the same.
This gets to be a problem when you have girls who are 12 year old or some shit being the same as a 24 year old man in stature, and goes double for Largo retains his VC1 head size but gets a twig of a body giving him really fucked up proportions. As for the girls Selvaria and Juliana were wronged for obvious reasons.
Get some taste, nigga.
it's all be the same artist though
>Largo retains his VC1 head size but gets a twig of a body giving him really fucked up proportions. As for the girls Selvaria and Juliana were wronged for obvious reasons.
That's hilarious, got any images?
I beat the first game without ever save scumming/looking up a guide. I just got really shitty ranks during the hard missions and people died.
VC2 was when I started save scumming, because I didn't find it that fun and just wanted to finish it fast.
Did you just brute force a strategy over a stupid amount of attempts tough? Cause that one boss fight very late in the game against Jaeger with those tanks is where I just lost my shit and gave up.
Forgive me for not posting an image but I didn't wanna save something just to delete it.
This is actually alright compared to Lancer, since the upgraded class gets big ass robes. You don't get that luxury to start with. And for reference, everyone's heads are way smaller, just check the VC wiki they have galleries for each character.
>I just got really shitty ranks during the hard missions and people died.
I only ever reset a mission when someone died because in this sort of game I feel terrible when that happens. It feels like they put their trust in you to command them and you fucked up and got them killed.
It took me ages to beat the episode with the pincer attach right after Alicia punks Selvaria because I kept losing units and I would restart every time I did. Finally beat it thanks to Largo's ten-turn mad dash to crit spot one of the big tanks.
Last mission I had Relia, Selveria, and Alicia Valkyria beam spamming the final mech.
She is the best, I think she is a little cuter than Edy though
Man, Selvaria is such a wasted character.
I remember first playing the game thinking she'd play an important role in the plot. But she ends up just being Max's submissive little bitch.
I was really hoping that we could convert her to our cause later on in the game, but no. She just kills herself for her master. We didn't even get that much of her in the DLC.
I don't about that, stalker-chan is pretty cute too.
The Jaegar one? I just wasted a lot of CP using the Edelweiss doing hit and runs along with Marina/Largo sniping then hiding behind walls. I slowly advanced with Alicia and Aisha to the north part of the map going west.
The biggest danger for me that time was getting the guys in the alley and then finding a fucking tank as I ran out instant gibbing my shock trooper, but since it was Rosie I didn't lose anyone that time. Anyone else and they were dead.
I basically didn't fuck with Jaeger at all until I cleared the entire map and had an engineer with Edelweiss the whole time. And either the AI was stupid or I was lucky but Jaeger wastes a lot of CP smoking shit and almost half the time it ends up doing him no good even during the early stages because I simply choose to attack somewhere else then and force him to move his units out of the smoke.
Later on when I started capturing bases, he still does the same places and at best he puts my tank to 50% or lower, so I repair.
Once everything was cleared, I just retreated most of my guys and brought in a ton of lancers and one of them was gonna get near his ass.
I got a D on that mission or something.
Sega have squandered the potential of so many games in recent years. Why they still exist is beyond me. And they treat any good games that manage to slip out as prodigal sons unless they meet unrealistic sales projections.
To be fair, it's part of her character to be a waste/tragedy. That's the entire point of her contrast with Alicia.
I'm not saying that justifies it, but that was clearly what Sega was aiming for and it'd be pretty terrible to just change the entire theme and shit just so you can save the most popular girl in the series from an integrity standpoint.
But I'm glad she didn't join the cause though, it would have been cliche
I lost key characters, glad they don't do that in VC2 and VC3
I'll be honest with you. While the destination was the same, the road was very different. For example:
1) Turning Alicia into generic tsundere, who hates being around Welkin for the first two or three episodes.
2) Taking the cabin scene and re-writing it so that the wounded soldier forces his way in, by threatening Alicia and Welkin with a grenade.
3) Forcing in a Love Triangle between Welkin, Alicia, and Faldio.
Is the game good? I've played a bit of the PSP game and it was alright until I got completely utterly stomped on one particular bullshit pseudo-stealth mission with fifty thousand tanks and shit.
Oh the memory it brings... My Marina and Cezary team was godly, each of them alone in their little spot wrecking shit as if it was a form of communication.
I still remember the Selvaria mission where 2 units where insta gibbed by that fucking scout riflle then Marina 3shotted the bitch because she never misses.
She really is. I wish more cards were actually ripped, considering she has a lot of them.
I dunno I liked having danger of characters dying. It made me play differently and make irrational moves just because I favored certain characters.
VC2 I end up sending Zeri and Mischlette to their deaths so many times I would have had generic squad mates if it were VC1, all because of trying to get phoenix.
Faldio goes after Alicia in the anime?
Good fucking god.
PS3 game has much wider open maps which in my opinion is vastly superior to both PS3 games and improves the game greatly.
>3) Forcing in a Love Triangle between Welkin, Alicia, and Faldio.
Faldio? Fucking Faldio? He never shows any romantic interest in Alicia thoughout the game. Thats just dumb.Would be more belivebe if it was a love triangle between Welkin, Alicia and Isara
Fuck, the anime adaptation must be a clusterfuck of shitty tropes and clichés
Why don't the 4 Valkyria just join forces and wreck Galia's shit?
Buy it cheap on Amazon, VC, VC3ex, VC2
I like it.
Fuck I remember that one, so annoying.
what I did was stale as much as I could so when I capped the base only shamrock was left behind to get that one tank while everyone else focused oh the front.
Jaegar is scripted to always use his second move to smoke. If you kill everything he'll actually smoke the ace hiding in the alley and give away his location.
I wish there were difficulty settings so you could make the AI not so insipid but I guess that would have required coding AI to start with.
Are you serious? I did occasionally screw up a couple of times toward the end, but there wasn't any mission that you had to resort to savescumming to beat, even knowing nothing going into the mission. Not being able to A-rank? Sure, but unless you are just randomly charging your unit to certain death, they were highly beatable.
It's still better than VC2's AI. But yeah AI is one of the big things that could use improvements.
I still think the concept of VC as a game is wonderful and untapped though. It had a really good mix of cutscene/gameplay/artstyle/etc. The CANVAS engine is the type that ages well I think too. I sure as hell didn't find it all that lacking on PC.
Just a shame they didn't make a 4 and on. There's plenty of ways to continue, just don't connect it to Gallia.
As long as you don't play the English dub.
Christ almighty, as an Irish person I thought I was going to die. If I ever needed further evidence as to why you should always stick with the Japanese dialogue, Catherine was it.
You're goddamn right. Dat accent.
Better ending than that of the manga.
Maybe, they will get Licorice more stuff.
I benched my favorite characters now
>I end up sending Zeri and Mischlette to their deaths
You Darcsen hater, play VC3, the main enemy is Darcsens, I always have to use my Valkyria to beat them
I nearly had an aneurysm on that mission after my carefully crafted plan to get get a shocktrooper past the enemy lines behind the tank failed miserably because
Lynn couldn't actually damage that tank with her MG.
I also realized after the first attempt that you could just park a lancer behind enemy lines before they show up, but felt that was cheating and stubbornly refused to do it.
So? Thats what most people would do after seeing someone instakill everyone but not make a dent in the tanks. Not trying to be all high and mighty but I introduced VC to a friend and he did it on his first try by basic intuition.
I prefer my own valkyriafu, but respect your individual tastes.
Faldio was Welkin's friend from College and in charge of Squad 1 in both game and anime.
After discovering Alicia might be a descendant of the Valkyrur, he shot Alicia to awaken her powers, and later sacrificed himself in the final battle, that much was kept in regards to his character when they wrote the adaptation.
That strategy of blocking her with the tank requires a restart after getting completely shit on after she shows up. It's not a bad strategy, but having to restart to implement it is bad game design. Gives you absolutely no chance on the first try.
That and keep key units away from her, in VC3 I hit her with snipers on opposite sides of the field to make her look in different directions so my guys can move.
It's actually interesting. When I unlocked the bit about her story where
she was forced to watch a friend die due to lack of ammo, it happened after I more or less accidentally recreated that incident.
Selvaria only really screwed me over the first time because the last radiator was the one on the inside of the map. The other two radiators are trivial, the Batomys will block her for you.
Is anybody else having to type out their captchas again?
Nah it's actually really easy even if you don't block her. I lucked out on it unintentionally but here's how I managed A-rank on my first try:
>Start normally a bit more engineers and lancers than normal
>Op scouts take out the shitters at the top because op scouts
>Break down the walls with your tank and repair it if you can't find a way to hide it, I didn't and I ended up running Edelweiss ahead of the Batomys and straight to the last base camp because holy shit Batomys hurts.
>Take out the left reactor the first time Max blows up a wall while you run engineers/scouts/lancers to the trench past the 2nd base camp; basically the right side of where the Batomys is when it makes it's final stretch towards your final base camp
>Proceed as normal and Batomys will provide you cover because Selvaria runs to the left side of Batomys while your characters are all on the right
Basically once Selvaria appears, she b-lines to the left of the Batomys, and if you position the units right she has nowhere to shoot at you for a long time. Someone might get downed, but she won't have time to perma-kill them, and since you have 3-4 characters along that area saving each other when you can just ragnaid after you reach the downed unit.
Also, by breaking down all the walls after you've brought Edelweiss past them, you force the Batomys to fire a lot faster so you can get all 3 reactors down before Max even gets close to last camp.
I'm not a Darcscen hater, they just happen to be the only characters with Phoenix that I use. I'd kill Anisette tons too but I already use Zeri/Franca/Marion/OP Lynn since I was save scumming anyways.
>Valkyriafus, more important than the war itself
It seems the real war has begun
Everybody seems set in their factions,
Apologies. If I remember correctly, he was part of a Russian bomb squad that was doing a exhibition. Not too sure on the details regarding that though, or even that much was correct.
Same thing happened to me, momentarily giving both the sensation of awe at this amazing technology and dread as I though all the bad traits my units were unlocking were my fault.
She's actually the second-best lancer in the game, statwise. Basically identical to Jann but trades HP for Accuracy, and accuracy is the biggest problem for lancers throughout the game.
I want VC4, and I want the main character to be Bernd Baltzar.
>Not purposely making them cross mines or bullet sponges
>Sure you're not
Did not know that, I always save my guys before they are forced out or the enemy gets them
jesus fucking christ
I'm no longer upset that I don't own a PSP to play the sequels.
Had I actually paid money and discovered this on my own without looking into it I'd have been furious. Looks like absolute generic garbage.
I don't know why they liked her so much, I didn't run into her that much and I don't remember anything about her that stood out.
A bit I neglected to mention
To add on to 2): They took some of the most emotional scenes and changed them in some way or form, some good, but most bad.
They also gave Isara a love intrest, which was kinda cute, but didn't go far for obvious reasons.
Also, I do give the anime a shred of credit, though I'll likely take some flak for this. I think it took a more realistic approach to the use of the Valkyrur's power, and when I say realistic, I mean would most probably happen given certain high-up's in the military.
You think that fatass Damon would just ignore the fact that Gallia posses a Valkyira? I don't think so.
Me too, I liked her tsundere behavior
Who's into more darcsen men giving master race women the D ?
I did that too. I was almost disappointed that unit leveling didn't work like Fire Emblem, where I'd get a general, a sage and a swordmaster absurdly strong and blow through every scenario with just them
What happens to the Edelweiss after the war?
Back to the garage?
Or did it blow up with Marmota?
I do, he was an incompetent shit who wouldn't want his glory to be usurped by someone obviously more powerful than he was.
Do I wished so many times I could just shoot the smug little fuck in the back, especially after the anime and Selvaria's DLC.
Ironically I find VC2 to be a lot better than VC1 in this regard, simply due to having a lot more base camps to switch out characters/baton pass, and the size of the maps allowing other classes than scout to be useful.
VC1 unless it's something like the rescue Cordelia mission, there was almost no point in regularly using anything other than scouts/tank. Lancers/Eng/Snipers/Shocks were all very situational.
Same here, I start with 3 and sometimes 2, the others are used for leap frogging and flag defense. VC2 was my first so I am used to going in with 5 or less (I guess VC2 is useful), once I got to VC and VC3 (especially VC3) the games became easy after that. Besides you don't want a full team out just in case one of your guys get KO'd
Yeah, I usually run around with a shocktrooper geared up with the Ruhm, have them kill about 50% of the map and have a few of the OP scouts running around, Marina or Catherine depending on my mood and a lancer if needed. I also usually tote around Karl as my engineer simply because Lynn is usually my shocktrooper.
Perhaps, but in the show she was placed directly under his command, and even if it was her doing the fighting, he is taking all the credit. Even in the game, he takes credit for other's actions.
He blatantly took all the credit for Squad 7's work in the retaking of Ghirlandio AND Selvaria's capture in the game
I know that, that's why I wanted the little faggot to die. But I will admit that's one of the few things the anime did better than the game.
Valkyria? What Valkyria? Nah, we let her run around like a common militia-woman.
Am I the only person who went through VC1 without ever using orders, not because to challenge myself, but simply because I was too engrossed in using units and just flat out ignored them?
I even remember buying them all, but I always FORGET. It never occurred to me to stack buff my scouts or shocks then go on a rampage. I just immediately thought "okay time to use someone else".
To my memory, Noce wasn't even showed in the anime. There were alot of characters that either didn't show up, or had very little screen time. Like Catherine..seriously, she needs more love.
It was, I was just glad to get them.
Good thing about VC2 was that with the 5 to 6 person limit, you are forced to utilize your team to it's best.
I used scouts to start tagging enemies and cover ground, snipers to clear the field in sight, and gunner to defend flags, engineers to restock, and the tank all the time. Everybody else was on standby.
I deleted my save file and started over when I lost Edy.
but Faldio is his college friend. Noce is potentially his childhood freind, and is in fact is Alicia's childhood friend for sure.
I'm at a loss for why they didn't just use him, since that love triangle actually exists in-game.
This is now a Darcsen thread.
Not in the US
I never used them except in VC2, you don't really need them in VC and VC3
Because nothing is more dramatic than to have your best friend have romantic feelings towards your girl
then proceeds to shoot her in the back, after mentally snapping from the loss of his squad.
Personally I think stand by is an iffy mechanic. On one hand, it's great for the PSP due to the limitations, and granted it makes it easier to leap frog thus utilizing slow units in more situations.
But it basically splits classes into campers and chargers. Scouts/Engies/Shocks charge while Snipers/AT just clear shit around camp 99% of the time. The only class with remote consistency in not favoring one over the other is Lancer, and that's only due to the option of charging past a tank and one shotting them.
For a game like VC1, not being able to teleport units in would have changed it drastically. For better or worse, I cannot say, but I can't help but feel there might have been a way to utilize ap in a more fun manner. A way that makes you contemplate whether or not it's worth running that sniper all the damn way to a certain nest or something instead of it always being an obvious yes/no decision.
I mean when the #1 way to flank an enemy is to appear behind them through a captured flag on another map, you know the game has zero formation value.
You like... Valkyria, Anon?
By the story that the anime portrays, she has more of a connection with Faldio, with interation with Welkin actually put to a minimum for a few episodes, from what I remember. Welkin actually shows very little intrest in her for the majority of the first half of the series.
I used my gunners for camping, the way I did it was if I knew there was an enemy with high armor and high attack, I would switch snipers with gunners and I would space them out so that their fire pattern overlapped. I had more kills with snipers than any other class, due to all the upgrades and the priority for leveling up I gave them.
VC was the last one I played I find it a little harder due to the gameplay differences from VC2 and VC3. I don't like the fact that I have to wait for reinforcements
It's not completely canon I'll admit.
But after Cezary loses his memories it's semi-implied that he hooks up with Nadine eventually because she thinks he saved her life in the manga.
I was a bit disappointed when I first saw the name and then saw the face. My expectations for a reverse trap were ruined.
I just don't have the money for tank ammo, lay off.
He was one of my top snipers.
Selvaria and Alicia remembering each other from the labswas an interesting twist to the story.
Wait a minute, Selvaria is like 12 in this scene, yet Maximilian looks no different. How old is he, anyway?
>Was throw into the enemy country to becom a political hostage.
>Give no fuck.
>An adult in a bunch of highschool students.
>Give no fuck.
>Get blamed for what the Imperials did by students and teachers alike.
>Give no fuck.
>Hate Darscens, still helped save them because he's a soilder.
>In the end, return to the Empire to prepare for another war with Gallia, but his heart isn't into it.
Helmut for VC4.
Darcsen filling in the 7G sandwich?
That's secret, just kidding maybe 18 or so.
Faldio dyingwas so out of place it hurts. Damn couldn't they just get the guy throw him into jail and get done with it ffs? But noooooo there's always space for some last minute drama.
I hate it when people think VC3 is merely a grimderp tryhard.
>their tanks are no match for our oversized melee weapons
no dipshit, your big ass swords won't do jack against tanks. in fact, they don't do much against the things they are supposed to matter (v0 armors).
>dark clothing means serious storyline
it aint even that serious. the nameless are bros amongst themselves and aren't an entire squad of cloud strifes. they make fun of imca for being cloud strife (and not liking wild mushrooms). if you think Jann or Dallas are weird, well, the nameless have an autist and two smooth playas. also Reimu.
He racked up so many kills on my save file, not only that but I had a few guys go down and he got them back into rotation. Helmult is the original Imperial Sniper.
He could have stayed as a bro ;_; C'mon he isn't even an anti-hero of sorts. He did some shit, but regrets it and everyone would accept him back. He could have published hundreds of articles on the true story of the Valkyur-Darcsen conflict ffs.
It's DLC. Helmut is already available when you have access to class G and stay that way till the end of the game.
It's like saying Riku is playable because he's playable for 5s in the end of KH2.
Cool. More than enough for me, it's far better than stumbling through the whole thing without any translation at all.
I need to figure out how to get the old version of jpcsp used by patcher to run on my PC, haven't found out what's wrong. Checked all of the obvious things like java and .net already.
I only know them from Project X Zone. They're pretty decent characters there.
So I was close, he would be 19 or 18 and she would be 12 or 11.
Agreed. Funny after playing I still don't know her backstory
Selvaria actually has a story though in VC1, and it's canon. There's nothing less legitimate about it and you can technically access the DLC right away can't you? I dunno because I chose to beat the game first but I'd assume it's not locked out.
Oh yeah, this also doesn't happen in the anime either.
"Should we put in one of the most emotional scenes that was in the game?
"Nah, no one'll care."
Yes, I only use them for show. I get 3 enemies lined up and take a swipe at them. In VC2 I used them on Valkyria modded enemies.
>Where the titties?
>I don't like any of these characters
>So the entire premise of the war is "BIG, DUMB, DARCSEN SCUM?"
>Why do I have to grind missions to get randomly assigned certificates just to upgrade my units?
>Tank customization is kind of neat
>Why'd you kill the titties again?
>Stop playing in October
I'm surprised I got that far.
So why do Darcsens go from physically superior fighters in VC/VC3 to highly intelligent strategist in VC2?
How the hell'd they get both the Edelweiss and Shamrock atop the Marmota, anyway?
Who is your favorite Valkrie?
I don't know about all that, Valkyries are cute girls.
Selvaria, always has been, always will be.
Alicia is a close second.
Well, lets start with how they turned Alicia into a tsundere for the first three or so episodes, and hated being around Welkin.
Game: "I also want to be his friend"
Anime: "Why did I get stuck with him..." - While slumped against a wall.
Hell, she was still being tsundere up to when they took her away to work as a valkyria for the regular army.
My biggest problem with the anime is how they turned Welkin from a slightly odd tactical master to a mouth breathing moron who would barely know human interaction if it hit him in the face.
I'm a Valkyrie too. Trust me.
Yeah, that was very jarring for me as well. With the changes they made in both characters, plus the fact that Alicia had more of a bond with Faldio, it was amazing that the writers didn't go full-retard and end the forced in love triangle, with Faldio and Alicia getting together.
fuck it. I won't ask anything anymore. Good discussion to you all, I'm off to bed.
The only reason the didn't was because it would've completely broken canon and it wouldn't have been VC anymore, just a mediocre military anime.
Though I must say I enjoyed the Cordelia kidnapping in the anime even if it was completely retarded.
The VC3 patch failed for me. I've isolated the issue to being that jpcsp v0.6 (used by the patch) cannot play VC3 on my PC for an unknown reason.
v0.7 plays the ISO fine on my PC but the patch cannot use it, seems like the patch's commands for 0.6 are not compatible.
I was partial to the way it was shown in the anime. It replaced the friendship between her and Welkin with Alicia. While it worked out better for the anime's story...somewhat...it still didn't feel right for some reason. Though goddamn it, seeing Jaeger and Selvaria crash the party was just great.
Jaeger and Selvaria crashing it without giving a shit was probably the best part yeah, though it's been a very long time since I watched it so I've forgotten the details.
I was slightly amazed at how the anime made Damon even more of a dick than the game.
Jaeger for VC4.
There's just so much I can say about him. He leaves his men to die, and is the only survivor of the Khloden assault, he brings people to his office just to say they won't be needed, he intentionally tried to get a national hero killed to protect his own fame, the bloody list just goes on, and on for me. Unfortunately, the anime made no mention of how he used chemical weapons during the defense of Ghirlandio. Plus his death just wasn't as satisfying as it was in the game.
Poor broken Homer. If only Edy would actually give him the time of day.
I wouldn't mind VC4 being a Jaeger centric thing, though I would like it if said hypothetical game was a mix of VC and VC3 and on a decent system.
I just can't imagine a place so fucked up that they didn't have a better general than him.
I mean, noble patronage and a wealthy father can get you far but he was just ridiculous.
Damon: Muhaha, I captured Ghirlandio AND the Valkyria, and I did it all by myself with no one's help!
Selvaria: stfu faggot.
Damon: Wait, wha-Boom
Much more satisfying.
It's actually interesting that the show points out that all of high command is the same way.
Yeah, it was very satisfying to see the smirk off of his face even for a little bit.
To bad it took Selvaria dying for it to happen.
I remember the show saying that, but I ignored it because if they were all like Damon nothing would ever get done and Gallia would have completely lost within a week.
It's very surprising that anything did in fact ever get done during the war. The way that the army commanders constantly flaunted their "superiority" was just ridiculous. Which now that I think about it, what is the difference between main army and militia? According to Damon, militia is made up of incompetent farmboys. What makes up the army then?
It would be hard to believe there aren't some competent people.
But considering the Militia is by draft or volunteer, how does the army get their numbers?
If you can join up with the army through volunteering, then why bother with the militia?
It boils down to the universal conscription.
The people in the army are in the army, that's their job.
The militia is every Tom, Dick and Sally from the back country fighting with training they received back in high school along with some refreshers at base.
I don't think so, only because Captain Varrot and Largo remained in the militia after the first Europan War, which hints at that you can be a career soldier for the militia as well.
Only if you are an extreme fan of the game is recommended, That is, if you like landmines.
They commit several offenses to the original game and story for "MUH ACTION scenes"
Go under your own risk, if and only if you have strong blood vessels so you cant burst one while watching
Vyse dead like a fucking dog, for example.
extremely forced love triangles that never existed in the source matierial.
Seriously, I almost rage quit the show, and damn near smashed my laptop.
Pathetic, I know, but with all the unnecessary changes made to the story, my breaking point was there.
The game's soundtrack was just fantastic.
I find it interesting that in the soundtrack, Squad 7 is listed as "7th Platoon".
This would make more sense, given the size of Squad 7, since platoons are usually 15-30 soldiers.
>She died in my game.
>Letting characters die
How fucking casual can you get?
Apparently the whole English translation has things like that.
I recall some other anon pointing these out. In the original Japanese, Selvaria is referred to as "Taisa", which means "Colonel", but her English profile states that she's a "Brigadier General".
And then you have the imp engie Johann from the DLC clearly being called Karl when you use the Japanese voiceovers.
Yep. It's fucking pure retarded. You can't even justify these changes with MUH LOCALIZATION. It's just pure faggotry.
And yet, there are people who will defend the shit translation.
Well, I think Johann's original name in the Japanese version was Karl. Not too sure though. His character was completely changed, nearly beyond recognition though with the anime.
only one guy died for me in one but, it was either that or start over again.
RIP Walter Nash
I like the game allot and the anime was ok i guess. The thing where i laughed the most it when they showed the map.
So many dutch city's and village's
As this thread will be buried amongst the many others of this board, and will likley be 404'd within the next day, I will say this:
OP, you have made the right choice by playing the game first. Valkyria Chronicles is an excellent game, with a not so great adaptation. The original story was beautiful, though having some minor flaws in my opinion, far surpasses its' anime adaptation.
After seeing all of what we have to say about the anime, and you still wish to see it, I can only suggest that you watch with extreme caution, due to its' many flaws and changes, and anger-educing moments.
Good luck to you. Tell us what you think when you are finished.
To the player's knowledge anyway. After all, the story we see did end after the Imperial capture of Ghirlandio at the start of the war. He has until Squad 7's actions at Fouzen to get it on.
tfw no art/fanart of best
Well, I hope it ruins your day to know that once you get her last potential she gets ultimate accuracy which makes her aim literally the middle dot. You can't possible miss with that.
People pirating the PC port of the first game, which was released 6 years after it originally came out, aren't the reason we didn't get VC3. The reason is because the PSP was fucking dead everywhere outside Japan and Sega didn't care about western sales.
lala land dreams don't count
SEGA of america seriously expected decent sales for VC2 when the tone shift and the platform change alienated a lot of the original fanbase. For once pirates had fuck all to do with VC3's lack of localization.
Buying VC1PC does nothing other than give SEGA free money, so pirating it doesn't hurt anything other than delusional dreams of fans still in denial.
I am stuck on episode 7 with the huge fucking tank. I can't kill the big tank fast enough, their reinforcements also come and sweep me as soon as I destroy first two radiators
Use the Edelweiss to stuck the Batomys, Engineers behind to fix the tank, Lancers to destroy the radiators and the others take care of the mooks.
When Selvaria appears, quickly hide the Lancers behind the tank and shoot the debris.
Keyword there is "didn't," now they do apparently, as evidenced by the PC port. I know some people bought it in the hope that it would convince Sega to make a PC port of some of their other games, like Vanquish.
Oh shit I never thought of mortaring the reinforcements! That's a good idea!
But if I stuck the batomys then radiator protectors won't open and if I destroy one when other two are opened then they close up and batomys needs to shoot again
Really? It uses the small canons to shoot my Edelweiss on the front. I'll try it again and maybe stand differently
Not sure if this will help you but when the radiators open I found it easier to climb up and throw a grenade into the radiators.
If I tried to position my lancers to fire at a radiator Silvertits would blast them down. I had more luck suicide running then climbing up the tank.
I'm not too sure what you're on about.
When you destroy one radiator the rest close, meaning you need the Batomys to fire 3 times.
Literally just park your tank in front of the reinforcements and the rest is sinch.
>valkyria: THE LINE
Of fuck YESH, make it happen! PTSD for every... for some.
>Valkyria: Enemy Unknown
Well...as long as it does not include a grid, I kinda like the idea.
Take the weapons, fuck off the muh on-rails-shooting-gallery stuff
>Valkyria: Total War
my body is ready
>valkyria Operation Arrowhead
tactical simulation? My body is ready... and moist
>Not including Vyse in the squad
You. get out.
