What a bittersweet ending.
They won but Chaika is implied to have lost all her memories.
Niva is straight up locked up forever despite saving the entire world.
Well. Razor lost a hand.
Chaika presumably lost all of her memories, and is unaware of the hardship the group went through and through away all development that she had with the characters.
Niva was literally thrown away like garbage.
To me it's kind of bittersweet. Mostly just for Toru and Chaika as a couple.
Toru and Chaika are pretty much fated together by the universe, so the loss of her memory isn't actually an issue. Plus Toru knew it would happen if the situation arose, so I'm sure he was mentally prepared for it (well, as much as one can be).
Also, I think it's probably better that Chaika lost her memory of the fighting, especially the part where she's actually just a tool Gaz created. She would be much happier if she was able to truly believe herself as just a normal human girl, even if she is the daughter of an evil dictator that wanted to destroy the world.
Razor as in Gillette? Casualty of war, he won't regret it in the slightest. Especially since he's one of those who places duty above personal desire. He probably takes pride in it.
Niva is a Gundo, not a person. That "I have a personality!" thing at the end was just asspull otaku-pandering. Considering the amount of power she has, it's only natural that she'd be locked away in a safe place. Wouldn't want evil Chaikas to appear again and claim her.
Honestly I just can't see how it's anything other than happiness for all.
Fredrica was only around because she had mild interest in Tooru. In the end, she got her personal desire fulfilled (contract with Tooru), despite all appearances that it would never happen. Really, she couldn't have had a better end here.
I liked how they didn't know what to do with her being capable of solving everything in a few seconds so they made her a walking gag. I'm not even being sarcastic. It feels like they had lots of fun suddenly killing her in ridiculous ways.
Dragons range from stronger than gods down to simple woodland creatures. Dragoon dragons are on the high end of the spectrum (they would have to be, as you can't form a contract with low-class dragons for obvious reasons).
Niva is a gundo with organic parts and the capability to reason. I assume in the novels her and Chaika get quite a bit more time together, which would make her switch far less jarring.
What was the point of anything? Seriously this was anticlimatic as fuck and the only thing Tooru gained by becoming a dragoon knight was Fredericas ability to job hard
>which would make her switch far less jarring.
This. An episode or two more with Niva would have made a world of difference here. Overall the season suffered from being too short.
It makes sense that if you can use memories as fuel, you'd be able to have some sort of control over those memories. And Chaika already had some experience in the department of using memories as fuel. It is quite possible she could have chosen the memories to use.
Did Bones completely forget about the metal butterflies? What the fuck?
Why was the ending so damn rushed? Why make it 10 episodes if they were going to make the pacing of the last episode so damn awkward?
There were so many bad things about this episode, but this took the cake for me.
I just need a decent Frederica doujin already. It's getting to the point where my jeans can no longer contain the raging penis within, and only hot dragoon pussy can satisfy me.
You know, I thought maybe they just fucked up the execution and Akari was writing the story of their adventure for Chaika because she lost her memories of it, but this sort of ruins any sense of accomplishment or sacrifice you might have been able to squeeze out of the ending
No need to complain it is obvious what is going to happen also there is an OVA coming
>Gaz isn't dead
>Niva will be freed somehow probably by white chaika and co
>Niva will give white Chaika her memories somehow
>They will go on another Journey to kill Gaz again or something similar
also did we ever find out who those people where when we first saw Chaika early in season 1? they where a few people in some rocky place I believe while she was on the floor talking about her purpose?
>She talked in Raakean to Red Chaika just fine.
Not a great anime and showed clearly decline after S1 but memorable and okay.
Even though the ending was rushed to the maximum , it resolved the plot with a medium note with Toru and Chaika ending up together , shame for Niva though.
No one has mentioned but I liked the battle sequence of Akari vs the Chaikas.
Probably the best thing of this show was following the threads in here and most of the original content it created along it .
It was fun while it lasted buddy.
>FOR ADULT ONLY
These words are made of hopes and dreams.
well there is an OVA coming out next year have people forgot about that or something?
and depending on sales it could continue, the light novel is on going as is 2 of the Manga and the 4-koma
The fight with Gaz is pretty good, thankfully. But yeah, she was suppose to be an wheel chair, but that isn't the only thing Bones changed when it came to characteristics.
Uh no. The OVA is original Bones fanservice. The series ends with volume 11 and the epilogue that comes out on the day the last BD for the anime comes out.
The manga is ending soon.
Please tell me this is real. Please tell me it's on it's way.
I no nothing about the OVA as of yet but even if it is fanservice it will be set afterwards wont it?
which manga is ending?
I know but there is like 3 Manga 2 of which are ongoing and if what the anon above said is correct then 1 will still be ongoing though I haven't picked either of them up yet
The regular one, it ends adapting volume 2. It sucks since, besides a few little additions, they really followed the LN well.
We don't know when it takes place, it could be non canon for all we know.
OVA is set during the story. It's not a continuation.
Main manga ended. I'm not sure what other mangas there are, besides the High-School version, which is pretty much worthless.
Was excepting that cliche follow up with Tooru screaming her name afterwards but nope, it was swiftly avoided. I can sleep peacefully now, Hitsugi no Chaika ended well.
>he's in a Chaika thread
>on a day the last episode was released
>did not watch it even if it's only 20 minutes long
>comes to /a/ when it's obvious people would discuss it
That's like coming to /v/ 6 years after the release of Persona 4 and complaining when someone spoils you that Adachi is the killer.
excluding volume 1 and 2pls
ah I was just saying that there is stuff still ongoing for Chaika, I also never got the impression that the series was ending from the LN author at least not from his twitter, most of his ramblings have been about Black Chaika and a wheel chair and how she was not meant to walk
>lives for 500 years, is incredibly intelligent and strong
>dies like a retard
It's a goddamn shame that Freddy only had one line this episode.
Well hate to break it to ya, but its ending.
I wished he would done the old cliche where Gaz just says fucks it and high tails it out after kicking everyone's ass so they all team up and go on an adventure to go find him and beat him for good, just for an excuse for more Chaika material, but alas.
The school and 4-koma aren't going to last, I can tell you that. Spin off material never really does.
>Tooru becoming a dragoon knight was 100% pointless
>Gaz just watches as Niva fucks off and goes to help Chaika
>Gaz doesn't even seem to care as hes being shot
>"I have a personality"
>She has to tell the audience
This shit was funny
Anyone else here preferring the mature Fredrica the most?
>has to tell the audience
This really irritates me. Maybe not in this specific instance, but I always hate it when characters talk to themselves in order to explain shit to the audience. Why can't anime producers into subtlety?
>best mage who doesn't have ZOMGPLOTHAX
>shapeshifts into a loli
>a cat is fine too
>I'm Not Dead Yet, the anime
>dat mature form
Freddie was clearly best grill here, and we got to see her give Toru the world's largest hickey on camera. 10/10 would watch again.
>Freddy is now bound to Toru forever
>Akari and Toru are no longer siblings
>Red Chaika no longer cares about revenge
>Chaika is no longer mentally handicapped
That seemed like the perfect setup for a harem end.
>mfw my daughter will never give birth to me ;_;
How do we know it wasn't? They all share that tiny little cabin and we only saw one bed. I'm totally grasping at straws but with the end of the series I can extrapolate however I like.
>Akari and Toru live in a tiny shack with Chaika
>Red Chaika cannot into opening doors
>Akari is already writing slashfics about the series
The ending might have sucked but the epilogue was the best
>best girl is most relevant she's ever been
>only shown in dragon and cat form
Why was this episode so shit?
Wait, did she get impregnated by her father too and then she gave birth to him? I don't get it.
Basically she ate rotten Fayla meat until she turned into a horrible tentacle monster, ate her father's corpse, and magic-wombed it back into his living body, now with a monster claw and instant MP refresh. That sounds totally fucking retarded when I type it out.
I only have the watermark on it ;_;
They were designed by Namaniku ATK, so yeah
She is a very polite waifu
>she lost all her memories
I'm really upset and mad about this.
Staff member is just a character designer and not the director, not the scriptwriter, not the storyboarder, and certainly not the author.
And since when was there an unhappy little female amnesiac in anime and manga?
No memories of bad things means no bad memories to affect mood or personality so no reason to have any sort of sadness.
Welp, I like the ending more now.
Holy shit this was so satisfying. I love how the things in the op made sense and how the foreshadows even from S1 fulfilled their purpose.
I was just wondering, why was Toru's eyes back to normal in the end? Was the contract something you could break off whenever? And did David-kun get his happy end?
Anime staff members can be biased.
Didn't some Production IG fujoshit staff animator talk shit on twitter as well?
Are we gonna base a studio's entire viewpoint based on that one person's tweet?
It was as well executed as I hoped for in light of the ten episode limit. I enjoyed Chaika.
Here's to the last few big threads for the coffin princess.
>watch Chaika without the translated opening and ending
>download an episode with a different translation
>OP and ED despite sounding pretty normally have actually pretty pessimistic lyrics
How is she instantly sitting upright in a throne at the beginning of episode 10? She literally just gave birth and looked like she had her lower half ripped off at the end of 9
Chaika's memories sucked. She'd be a severe PTSD case if she kept them - she'll be happier this way and have a much easier time sleeping at night.
That and it's unclear how much she lost to begin with.
Holy shit, why does this music remind me of Mass Effect 3.
Nope Vol 11 will end the VN and it comes out later this month. There will be a 12th Epilogue mini volume that comes with an OVA
If you can read nip go for it. Raws are out there somewhere. Do us a favor and see if you can give us a summary of what happens in volume 5 and 8. Those are the ones that the anime skipped
>black succeeded in her goal of bringing Gaz back
>white succeeded in giving Gaz a "funeral"
...So, did Red accomplish her vague "revenge" goal by killing Black or will that extend to her trying to steal Toru away in the (never to be written or televised) future?
Why do I feel like I've lost an important part of my life anons?
Nope. Her revenge was to kill the eight heroes, in the anime, most seem to be alive but a bunch of losers. In the LN, most are not seen so presumed possibly dead or again losers. Also doesn't help with the next point.
And when she hears the truth, she too doesn't want to revive the Gaz empire with reviving Gaz.
Why do that? Just import a used copy or whatever.
Let's all laugh at Akari.
Well, I don't know what to feel about the ending. I've never watched other BONES releases as some Anons mentioned here the other day.
But I think the ending is kind of ok, hence I liked it. But it had at least one cliche. It fucking had to.
How different is the LN and Manga? I'm thinking of reading the manga first since I can't into moon.
Seriously, what the fuck bones? The Scrapped Princess adaption was very well done but Chaika got shafted. I enjoyed the series but the amount of effort they put into Chaika was nowhere near Scrapped Princess.
Shoddy and quick is all anybody knows now.
I remember when I was a young boy and Scrapped Princess was among my first exposure to anime... it was mesmerizing.
The magic isn't there anymore now.
And same studio. And same director.
How the mighty have fallen. I guess BONES will soon take its place right next to Gonzo. BONES' motto these days should be "Failed Potential". They had something amazing with Chaika but failed to do anything with it.
Chaika is doing pretty poorly in Japan even with Season 1 and the LNs. I don't think they wanted to rush through like they did, but given the budget, they didn't have a whole lot to work with. Of course, they spent way too long with Claudia at the beginning
Since when is DEEN or Manglobe anywhere close to the success bones has seen in the past?
Anyone have a collection of all the promo art?
>LN dropped and not licensed
>manga ending since it was to promote LN
>shitty anime ending since it was to promote LN
FUCK THIS SHIT I MAD
It still amazes me how one of my favorite shows this season managed to turn so shit.
>Chaika gets told half a season ago that she's a random orphan manipulated to gather the remains
>The enemy tells her now again that she was just a tool to gather the remains
>SHOCKING TRUTH, MEANING OF LIFE LOST
>Wasn't her goal just arranging a funeral for the geezer in the first place, that's what she decided to do even if she wasn't the genuine daughter?
>Niva leaves the group with Guy and Chaika lets her go because she's leaving willingly
>After blowing up half the kingdom, she now decides that it actually wasn't in line with her will
>Gaz is too shocked to move
>We get cheap amnesia as a plot device TWICE this season
>Why did Frederica even exist?
>Why did Akari exist?
>Why why why
>HnC ends with white hair and white flowers
>Gosick ends with white hair and white flowers
IT'S LIKE POETRY
I would've liked it if she were more aggressive about it, instead of just a few laconic, meaningless remarks. Something like, using hiding from the enemies as an excuse to press her body against Toru's, or trying to make him trip with traps in order to set up the classic "he fell on me and grabbed my breast" scenario, or antics along those lines. Anything to show that she's not just a blank-faced robot.
Chiaka was never real in the first place, OP, she was always some shell of a human being implanted with fake memories and sent on some quest to retrieve the parts of a man who has no relationship with her.
She literally lost nothing of real value or substance, the Chiaka you know and love died a long time ago. Which is a shame, because she was probably a goddess among women.
>Since when is DEEN or Manglobe anywhere close to the success bones has seen in the past?
DEEN did two Takahashi works and Ruroni Kenshin. If we are going solely by success, then Higurashi and Fate/Stay Night were pretty damn successful.
Quality of works nonwithstanding, of course.
Right now at this second, the Nips who hate this series shitpost about it while their room is filled with Kill la Kill, SAO, Titan and Madoka merch.
I stopped watching the series when someone spoiled me with this.
What the fuck is up with that? It's like being given candy that looks and tastes like candy and then being told it's shit. And then you realize all your teeth are falling out and that delicious candy exterior was hiding a rancid shit center.
Why did the original Chaika have to die and get replaced with these fucking watered down impersonations? Why did we have to get fed one for a female lead when she goes to shit anyway?
>Why did the original Chaika have to die and get replaced with these fucking watered down impersonations?
Unless I read it wrong, there was no original Chaika. Gaz just got girls and made them into Chaikas for his goal. He just spread the rumor of having a daughter named Chaika for keikaku.
Of course they have, Attack on Titan was AOTY 2013 after all (And SAO AOTY 2012). Plus Chaika got its second cour greenlit because the novel reached Kadokawa expectations.
Thank you based nips.
Now we wait for the OVA and hope for it to be subbed in this lifetime.
Does anyone have have the raws for the LN?
im trying see if can find one so i can read it myself since im confident in my moonrune skills. So it would be great if someone can link it to me.
>Attack on Titan
Sure, if you like Man of Shit and the Star Wars Prequels
The one that kills for sure, so Niva's Axion Buster.
All will be lost in time.
Like tears in rain...
My heart ;_;
I´m baffled that quite a few people enjoyed this rushed ending. All that build up just for this?
Episode 9, niggers
never really cared that much about this show week to week but still, it was great. I liked the ending. the happily ever after scenrio we got kinda makes me think there will be more, if not anime then some other format.
>Eyes went back to blue
Fucking rushed as fuck.
So why exactly was Toru so hesitant about the contract? Was it just him being determined to stay Saboteur until shit got real bad or did he actually lose something in the process?
Basically, being saboteurs was the only bond they had, they were siblings by trade, by way of life. When he stopped being a saboteur, they no longer had anything in common. Just a man and a woman, and doomed to go separate ways. Something like that?
Man, it's painful seeing how much was poorly elaborated on or flat out skipped over or just badly paced.
>Toru leaving alone hardly phased his sister at all, she didn't even try that hard to go with him
>toru rushes in with what was supposed to be a rage or something, but comes across like he doesn't care. Hell, he seemed like he had no idea what he was doing.
>the whole "you're too hot headed to be a saboteur" bit was repeatedly endlessly despite toru never seeming hot headed except at the very end and seemed hardly motivated beyond "stop bad guy" as chaika wasn't in immediate danger.
>the gundo says "I have a personality" and has an abnormal attachment to chaika, jarring due to the very very short time they bonded.
>lots of body parts collected off screen
>gaz acts like he could block the gundo cannon, when he of all people should have known he couldn't.
>they all still live in a shitty hut for no reason despite having saved the world
>gundo given a redemption moment and immediately locked up.
>the ending doesn't clearly indicate which memories she lost causing it to have to be explained by a writer or artist or whatever
There were definitely some things I want to give it credit for:
>Toru's fight with his mentor showing dragoon bullshit and him knowing it
>toru and fredrika getting torn the fuck up and chaika saving them
>Red chaika having the most and best character development through the entire series (best girl right after white chaika)
>happy end for most (poor gundo though seriously)
>white chaika's interactions with the entire cast (especially the conversations with red chaika and the gundo)
>the calculated and composed fighting of the saboteurs
>fredrika constantly being a dark souls character, hell, her role in general
>all the heroes had pretty good characters
>magic wasn't retarded bullshit for the most part beyond gaz and the shotgun lady
>there wasn't a power level scaling in the show beyond the given of gaz
So, Miku is in chains, Chaika is recovering from brain damage, Red Chaika's lackeys disappeared off of the face of the earth and Frederica is nowhere to be seen.
Oh, and Gillette-sama can't shave for a while.
That was a fairly lukewarm rushed ending.
>Form a contract
>She's basically your own body and soul now
>Take baths with her in loli form
>Do anything with her
>She loves you very much
>You're one of the most OP classes too
Waiting on a MMO where you can have such a class. Your dragon can shape shift too.
>Bones: Oh yeah dragoon Toru
>Well here he is, look at him do stuff
>Alright the end
>one day Freddy changes into the form of her new master
>wants to try gay sex
>Akari jumps in while Toru is standing there confused
Why do you assume she lost ALL her memories? And even if that were the case, she's still alive and able to live peacefully making new memories with all the best people in the story, so how is that bitter at all?
>Autists can't understand that white now speaks normal because of Toru spending time with her
Niva was the one who put the world in jeopardy in the first place. That's like planting a bomb in a school, then disarming it before it goes off, you're not going to be treated like a hero.
So what's up with all this class change bullshit?
Does the world work by RPG laws, once you've switched from one to another you just can't do the others things anymore?
That's kinda stupid.
So did all the other Guys stopped working because Chaika destroyed the one Gaz was in or was it because she killed Gaz?
Also, I'm surprised he didn't remember which was the name of the girl who he based the Chaikas on. He didn't even get some last words/thoughts.
I'm glad Vivi is happy in the end too. Nikolai was such a bro too.
So can Toru go Iron Blood mode as a Dragoon Cavalier too?
We OP now
So what the fuck happened with all the saboteurs who weren't Shin, Toru or Akari?
Supposedly there was a village filled with them and everyone knows about them but they didn't show up in the whole show.
The only possible explanation is that they were in the show but they are so high-level that they remained hidden even from the viewers.
I feel the same way about Chaika's ending than about Transcendence's ending. Depp's character and the Emperor did nothing wrong. They were advancing technology and making the world a better place.
Perfect ending would have been Toru getting killed and White Chaika blown away, and Akari committing suicide because she saw Toru die.
This felt so unsatisfying.
>Toru got a power-up and only managed to kill NotItachi.
>Akari, Red Chaika and Gillete's underlings sucked balls so much that they couldn't even kill a bunch of Chaikas.
>Frederika jobbed till the end.
>The whole Niva deal was retarded.
I will forget about this show and just wait for LN spoilers.
Why didn't he use Iron-Blood Transformation from the start in some fights? Sometimes he waited until he activated it. What's the deal? I don't remember that mode having any downsides.
>I have lived for 500 years and I realized that humans are violent and cause war for stupid reasons
No shit, Sherlock. They also want to fuck 90% of the time.
Why not make a world-wide endless orgy instead of a shitty war?
>It takes a toll on his body
Maybe I just don't remember when it was said. But still, I also don't remember seeing Iron-Blood mode actually doing any harm to his own body on-screen.
It takes a shitton of energy so he can only use it once a day or he would put his risk in danger.
I'm sure the LN put more emphasis into this while the anime probably ignored it.
I think he means that you don't change your class, you just add another one.
I mean, Toru sill has his sabouteur training and Iron Blood Transformation, the only reason for him not to use them along with his new dragoon cavalier skills is "muh path left behind".
Of course, makes perfect sense. He absolutely had to use his transofrmation, but he didnt, which obviously means that there's some kind of restriction and that we are in a setting abiding by video games laws.
It's a terrible answer.
"I will not hurt a friend" or something along those lines would have got the point across that Niva can think for herself without sounding like it was literally only spoken to explain the asspull to the audience.
