He'll come back to us someday.
>>
Did he fall asleep in the rocking chair three years ago?
>>
He'll upload a review of despera anon. Have faith.
>>
One day, anon. Both him and Accelspammer will come back to remind us why we're still here.
>>
>>118171640
let it go anon, he's watching anime in a better place now.
>>
>>118171667
He didn't wake up
>>
>>118171801
I can't believe I actually miss Accel. I was positive I'd never miss that shit at the time.
>>
>>118172072
Why do you now? It's not like Mods are banning loli again.
>>
>>118172229
There's no 'theme' going on right now. No common enemy, no common goal, just a board with vague discussion about middling-quality shows. I want something like Rozen Maiden or Gurren Lagann again, something EVERYONE is watching, just to colour the site a bit.

But even the new Rozen Maiden didn't get watched by anyone, so I don't know, maybe it's just never going to happen again. Could it be there are simply too many people on /a/ and elsewhere now to have something like that happen again at all?

Most of the shows I like these days end up being the 'one thread ever' type which pisses me off, too.
>>
Do you think he's with his waifu right now?
>>
>>118172338
things may pic up again next year cause of the nagato series.

>>
>>118172338
Too many contrarians nowadays for it to work. See, compared to back then, "everyone" watching something is actually pretty hard because of the drastically increased population.

It just won't happen anymore. It isn't possible.
>>
>>118172338
Remember when we were "animu and mango?" I still imagine seeing that at the top of the screen . Always being disappointed it's no longer present, and hasnt been for years.
>>
>>118172338
Kill la Kill was like that for a while
Hopefully Durarara will deliver some hype

>>118171640
Why are all the other anime reviewers on youtube such shit?
Demo and GoatJesus are the only ones who put in any effort
>>
>>118171640
Is this guy even famous outside of 4chan? I lurk in other websites and he never gets mentioned there.
>>
>>118172479
Demo is a faggot who enjoys being internet famous from vomiting /a/ memes into the mouths of the MAL and tumblr idiots who subscribe to him.

Why the fuck would anyone want to watch an anime review in the first place? I respect grumpy jii-san, but the whole concept seems like a waste to me.
>>
you're gonna carry that weight
>>
>>118172338
>something EVERYONE is watching
I remember TTGL having a pretty outspoken hatebase on /a/ at the time. I get what you mean though, things like Panty Stocking or Psycho Pass seem to come close but /a/ is just too big now for all its users to have the same general interests.
>>
>>118172479
I don't know but I actually liked The Anime Zone and JesuOtaku.
>>
>>118172541
It's interesting seeing in depth analysis
Demo at least puts some effort into editing his videos, and usually a lot of his points about a show are spot on.
It's a shame about the shitty memes
>>
>>118172338
This. The last big common enemy was Siz. Now it just feels like the big enemy is just waves of newfags one after the other. At least with those big tripfags it felt like a tangible force. With this, it just feels like the enemy is our own board.
>>
>>118172525
that's because he's been dead for over three years
>>
>>118172573
Mods have cracked down a lot too compared to then. The character of /a/ changed too. Maybe it got too crowded. Maybe mods have become dicks.

Or maybe...
We just grew up.
>>
>>118172541
I watched Jii-san because of the interesting locales and because he seemed like he was really passionate about anime. Seeing him put a big laserdisc into the player at the beginning of some episodes would make me smile.
>>
>>118172583
Jesuotaku was the only good part of the shit heap that was that guy with the glasses
>>
>>118172633
>Maybe it got too crowded. Maybe mods have become dicks.
a little bit of both honestly. 4chan is the new facebook and this entire website has become infested with facebook-using teens.
>>
>>118172606
>Siz
Whatever happened to him anyway? It seems like IRC just kind of dissipated.
>>
>>118172618
But even back then, was he well-known outside of 4chan?
>>
>>118172727
They all went to /jp/ I think.
>>
>>118172633
I wonder if moderation has changed very much. The biggest difference I've seen is that you don't see complete board wipes anymore like we did with the Rossiu hate after certain episodes. I'd post a screencap here if I had it, you know the one.
>>
>>118171667
>>118171934
He has major arthritis and can't use the computer anymore.
>>
>>118172338
Just like the world after the Cold War, we've entered new age of /a/. There is no big bad enemy anymore, we don't even know who to fight.
>>
>>118172774
at least it's not dementia
>>
>>118172464
I want to be /ɐ/ again
>>
>>118172338

I think the rise in catalogs made it easier to just bypass all of the threads you didn't want to see, even psychologically easier than thread hiding because you don't even have to be proactive with the mouse or see more than the OP.
>>
>>118172774
So the rumor goes. We haven't heard a single thing from the man himself, which bothers me.
>>
>>118172338

Yes, and that's easier to ignore entirely when you're using a catalog.
>>
>>118172946
Isn't that essentially what's been going on though?
Isn't /v/ and Reddit essentially comparable to the middle east?
A few people come here from /v/ or reddit or tumblr, cause a little trouble, and we're ready to go to war with them.

Very interesting stuff.
>>
>>118173019
Id like to say so. That was right around the time we got captchas wasnt it?

>>118172589
I'm not saying he doesn't try and make his videos look good, I'm saying that he's making them for casual idiots. He released a video complaining that Khara pulled his me!me!me! video, and I saw so many fucking comments saying "what's khara?"

Jii-san at least had some good insight, Demo is like the commie of anime videos.
>>

It's because everybody forces fanbases to use one thread and one thread only, welcome to generals era /a/.
>>
For anyone thinking that this site isn't overflowing with teenagers, this is a thread on the front page:

>As much of a relatable character Tomoko is, have any of us actually fallen as low as she had?
>>
>Nothing interesting or big happens

Then do something interesting. I didn't care much for the Accel guy, but that's exactly what he was. One guy. Anyone can do what he did.
The board doesn't get more interesting by waiting for something to happen, something interesting happens when you make it happen.
This is your board. You make it what it is.

Right, even though it's easier to ignore if that happened today not only would there be serious mod intervention, there would be backlash against TTGL threads an order of magnitude greater (Going off of recent experience from KLK). That isn't to say these didn't exist back in 2007, they doubtlessly did, just that if it happened today /a/ would probably implode rather than be unusable for a day.

You know who's to blame for all the fun being sucked out? moot, and ourselves

Let us be our own enemy. Our Streams are gone. Our r/a/dio is gone. Our (even though I didn't care for it) 4CC is gone.

Hell we invited /sp/ over to watch a fucking baskethoop game.
We invited /o/ over to watch intial D.

Do you remember the last time a mod came in here and had a night of fun (let's not count shitposting with naruto or the asuka thing this year). The last time was the Curiosity landing where all of /a/ got together.

No more mousepad threads, no more chalice threads. There's no more friendly chaos.

But hey, doing any of that will just make people think that the boogieman ledditors and tumbletards are taken over.

Are you fine with just secret s/a/nta, valentine's day and Fapping in the New Year? I'm not, those are boring.

Of course our board is supposed to be anime and mango, but we have no culture because we fear the worst will happen.

Well wake up /a/, we're not interesting anymore and because we're afraid to take chances and moot wouldn't allow it even if we tried.

We'll be fun again the day Mr. Anime releases a new review at this point.

The reason why r/a/dio is gone is because it's full of literal autists like you circlejerking and getting free advertisement. It doesn't matter that it's related to /a/, it's an outside site. That's called advertising.

Sound threads I could get because people could embed other things than .ogg, /lit/ was using it for book piracy and I guess moot got in trouble for it or something.

for? Advertising for profit is one thing, this is for playing music for others.

Anyone can use any other service. Fuck irc, fuck elsewhere. It's supposed to be in a thread on /a/ and to talk with one another.
>>
>>118173869
>made by /a/nons for /a/nons

You mean "made by blogging faggots for blogging faggots"

r/a/dio sucked dick, it had nothing to do with /a/ other than the title, and people like you never stop fucking whining about it. Go to fucking reddit or something if you want to listen to music, who cares. Fucking normalfags like you are killing this site, because you couldn't IMAGINE just listening to music without being able to blog at the same time.

That's why we're on a sfw board, and if we report it gets deleted.

You're on imageboard, expect some images.

Ear rape brings attention to yourself at home from friends/family.

Also headphone users can get hurt.

Images can't do damage like sound can.

Honestly, there's truth in both sides. /a/ has become less fun, but it's largely because it's reached a state where fun is "dangerous".

The thing is, the way we see "fun," fun in the olden days, fun as in periodic manga or r/a/dio or what not, is different from how the majority of this site perceives fun. /b/ and /v/ would rather shitpost and post endless dubs and bait and counterbait and all sorts of other inane shit.

Both require some looseness or flexibility of the rules. In the past, you can be certain that because /a/ was small and tight knit everyone will have this comfy sort of fun. But nowadays, give the shitposters an inch and they swarm in en masse.

I don't know if there's a good solution, but that's just the way it is. /a/'s demographic has enlarged to include too many crossboarders and /v/ermin and cancerous sorts. Hell, they might actually outnumber us at this point.

Snacks was a MODERATOR up until about 2007.

They had a falling out moot and him.

But they worked it out and moot allowed snacks to make threads weekly on /r9k/ for his radio show, Midnight with Snacks.

We haven't been tight knit since 2009.

The fun started fading by 2012.

We need some more looseness even if it means taking a beating from shitposters.

/a/ enlarged alright while maintaining the same number of posters, it's just the older ones left and left us with these /v/ermins.

Im really inclined to think that there still are plenty of older ones, but they changed or are on the verge of "growing out of" anime and manga. Think about it. 2007 was 7 years ago. Someone who was here from the beginning would be in their 30s now.

I hate "shitposting". And by that I don't mean posting off topic things. I think "shitposting" as a concept. The idea that you can't just post shit for the sake of it, just because you think it's funny. This place was never like this, we always had a shitton of trolls, we always enjoyed acting like a bunch of loud spazes, we reviled on how we could go on a tagent in a thread and had fun with it. Life thrives on rot. But that's not allowed anymore, because we're too scared of boogiemen. So we've killed all our memes (in both senses). We're sterile.
>>
>>118176657
Oh shit I forgot about those!
And on the 4chan side we have all sorts of extensions, filters, the catalog.

On the bright side there are still people following our path. I have a friend who despite being u18 has set up emulation on their pc, found and reads visual novels, translates manga, and so on. Things are different of course but they're till definitely the same bent as us. Id like to say, so the curious streak we had isn't fully gone. Definitely inhibited in general though.

Time to dust off some olde copypizza:
All of these shitposters bring up my sentiments about meme theory. Of course, meme is french for same, so the theory of sameness in a community.

The concept that with such a large community as an internet shares a culture, despite most likely never having met another individual over the internet in person, is quite astonishing. What this means is that all of the jokes posted in a culture and that are accepted into the culture become common place.

Think of your group of friends, if you have any. You share little in jokes with your friends because of an event that happens, maybe you slip up your words while making an important argument, and the result is humorous.

Now apply this to the internet. The events that happen in a community of millions, even billions. It does not matter if the event only takes up a small amount, or the entirety of the community, there is still an injoke created amongst some and they share it with the rest of the community.

This phenomenon of meme theory can be very dangerous, when thought about. The fact that you can create a joke and have it go from being a small inside joke with around 5 other individuals and if leaked to other people may eventually spread to the whole community makes you think about our society as a whole, and individualism. That joke you just made was yours, but now it isn't. It's a "meme" on the internet, and no longer under ownership of either you or your group. So think of how this could apply out side of jokes.

Meme theory really is a wondrous thing, but also notably dangerous, and I just felt the need to say something about it.
>>
>>118177189
I get what you mean, no worries. Im having some kratom myself.
But yeah, web 2.0 I definitely agree with you on. Making everything "social" was...I don't want to say a mistake, but I don't like how it's affected the web. I don't think sites like what we're used to would be tenable in this day and age.

That's wrong though. It's a calque of "gene" coined by Dawkins from the same root as "mimesis". French "même" is unrelated.

You know, now that I think about it, you're right on the mark there. There've been plenty of changes, but the fundamental concept of 4chan,it's feel/soul/what have you, is still there. Times when we get those rare occurences of OC really drive that home. It's like seeing an old friend, old /a/, again.

When 4chan dies I think I'll probably be done with imageboards.
Maybe I'll lurk and post a few months after its death, but I'm sure I'll quickly get bored with them.

moot is a fucking faggot but it's as you said:

It WILL happen when 4chan dies.
Someone(heck, maybe even Daiz or Woxxy) will try and make a Prettier and Better™ *chan with, oh, all the freedom you can have! And the mods are great, and the janitors don't do it for free and there's no cucks and oppression and no captcha and it'll run in 12bit.

It'll last for a while, boosted by the death of 4chan, then quickly fade into nothingness, like pretty much any other imageboard made by people that didn't like 4chan.
>>
>>118177896

When will you fucks learn?
>>
>>118181706
Please do tell, o wise one.
>>
>>118181752
Because he's trying to turn us all into normalfags. 4chan is (or was, before it became facebook 2.0) a place you go when you are at your lowest point as a social outcast. It is the place where you can get some social interaction in your cold meaningless life. Over time on 4chan you start interacting with people, and eventually make some friends off the site (streams, r/a/dio, online games on old /v/, etc.). Eventually go into skype calls, etc.

Eventually one day you realize that talking to people isn't too bad after all, and try talking to some more real people from time to time. Slowly you start coming back out of your shell and become a boring normal person with a girlfriend and job, just like moot.

If 4chan wasn't there, you probably would have killed yourself, but it's there for you until you're ready to move on. 4chan is basically the school from angel beats, and moot is keeping it going because he wants to be able to help the people at their lowest point get back on their feet.

Why else would he run a site with basically break even revenue levels and massive logistic issues for over a decade? Do you really think he watches anime anymore? Do you really think half of us even watch anime anymore?

It's not about the topics discussed, and it never was.

I was most addicted to 4chan when my social life was at its best. The friends I've made through satellite activities, I lost just I lost my offline friends; because of my apathy.

I never disliked talking to people, nor did I have a problem socializing outside of the initial push. I've had a girlfriend and a job; I also lost them to apathy.

Even now, when I'm at my least depressed, I still think of killing myself when thinking about the future. But now I'm a bit scared because I feel I might actually do it, since I've grown up.

And I watch anime of course, otherwise I wouldn't come to /a/.

This site does not turn people into normalfags; if anything quite the opposite. While I'm sure it keeps some people from killing themselves, it does absolutely zero to help people move away from it and get back to the 'real world'.

I hope you realize you are honestly suggesting that this site helps you get a girlfriend, and how dumb you are for saying that

/a/ has lost it's appeal.

You can keep hanging on to what you once loved, but it will eventually die. It's unavoidable.

Either that, or watch all the things you liked about it dissipate into the collection of users that never ceases to expand.
>>
>>118176799
>>Hated Heart pupils until recently

>>
>>118183376

>>
>>118182970

No, not really. I never pay much attention to spammers. I can only remember the worse cases because they were the hardest to ignore. Like the post with a sexy Japanese woman with tattoos claiming it was the hottest video ever. I never found anything else on that girl or even if there an actual video of her.
>>
>>118183409
For me, I didn't see them around a lot until one of the artists of Hard Blush started doing them, now I see them a little bit more in nip books but really it's a western or furfag thing.
>>
>>118183376

Time change, depends if you want to go with the change or be a miserable shit.
>>
>>118173835
This was not a major event.

There are no streams where /a/ consistently flocks. Back in the day, you could fire up a stream about fuck knows what, mods would likely not give a fuck or it would fly under their radar because the users weren't aggressively reporting, and there would always be a decent amount of people come to it.

What gets that nowadays besides Toradora streams for Christmas? Nothing. Even then, mods deleted some of those threads.
>>
>>118183581
>Hard Blush

I wish I didn't look that up.

I dunno, the western style has to encompass the entire eye. Subtle is where it's at.
>>
>>118183604
>you can either go with things you don't like or you're a faggot

This is exactly the mentality that caused /a/ to become so boring. It's not elitism, the majority is just appropriating their faggotry over others and the minority has no way to object because it's deemed shitposting by the majority.
>>
>>118183686

No anon, it's your thoughts that let it be shit in your mind. As it goes in others who share your thoughts while others enjoy what they have over time. Do you allow it to be fun or do you be miserable with what you got over the years? All up to you.
>>
>>118183832
>it's your thoughts that let it be shit in your mind.

This is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever read. This is meant to be free expression, not being programmed into liking the garbage tastes and behaviors of others. It's like you aren't even attempting to understand the previous posts. What it is now doesn't affect what it was before.

Now I know what you mean for lovestruck characters in a cartoon series but for porn, it's about the same for manga.

Never really got this. I've visited /v/ a few times because /a/ is always talking about how bad it is, but everytime I visit, it's normal. First time I had a good time in an Ocarina of time thread, I visited again for the Oculus rift thing, E3, and a few days ago there was even discussion about the new Zelda trailer and SSB4. Also binding of isaac threads.

I don't play many video games, so I don't visit often enough to really see the place, but I really can't see this whole /v/ being bad meme from the few times I did visit.
