After years of putting it off, I finally watched Neon Genesis Evangelion and the three films of the Rebuild of Evangelion series.

I have two questions about the third film:
Why did the blonde Dr woman who knew about Ikari's plans all along join Misato's rebellion-group? I thought a third/fourth impact was her goal as well?

Where was Misato's boyfriend in the third film? They never established he died in the second one, did they?

Also, is The End of Evangelion worth watching? I was content with the anime ending so I just moved on to the entirely retold story with modern animation but I figure Asuka's eyepatch is explained in it or something?

Yes, it sucks for Rei fans and other fans who expected Anno, Tsurumaki, and the rest of Khara to showcase Rei Ayanami's fantastic character from the original, and do their best to make a new rendition that was on par with the original.

But then look at the rest. They are shallow, fantasy pandered versions of themselves, their entire character is sold on being homosexual and to be marketed as such to an audience who fetishize same sex couples. Their characters are changed at a whim to pander ceaselessly according to Anno and the rest's own fantasies.

If Rei is the fifth wheel, then perhaps she's a wheel that's best left away from the car or wagon. Maybe there's a little bit of dignity in that.

I'll be honest with you. This means you actually lost. There are two characters there. "ayanamirei (tentative name) 'Q' ", both of which are altered versions of the original. Both shallow characters that no longer represent what either Asuka or Rei from NGE was.

That Asukafags ate up Shikinami, and Reifags rejected Rei Q, is proof that Reifags were the only one of the two that actually cared about the character.

Asukafags only cared about it's sex appeal and cliche cute girl / tsundere attitude.

Even Asukafags have rejected Asuka, and proved that they identify more with their fantasy version of Asuka than the real one.

Asuka might have won the pandering and fanservice contest, but Rei won the moral victory.

Yes, but it shows its age even more than Eva does at this point. It's mostly much more light-hearted and less serious than Eva, so don't expect that sort of seriousness. It does shit all over itself when Gainax had to outsource a couple of filler arcs because it was so popular they needed more episodes. But the Island arc is forgivable in its badness since there is plenty of good to see, as well as important plot points like the actual Secret of the Blue Water. The African village arc is cancer on the rest of the series.
Still, it's very Anno, so a lot of the characters have very glaring flaws. Notably Nadia herself, but, like Anno's other shows, there's a lot of depth to them all. And the finale is Anno to the core.
