I miss this animé so fucking much.
Ryoga is the best character in this manga/anime.
Prove me wrong.
>Muki-muki Ryoga-kun please fuck boku
You are simply gay.
I think this is the only anime i ever dropped because it got too boring.
There's no connection between all those episodes, no buildup, no nothing. Every chapter they're hoping to get normal again but you always know that it'll fail anyway. Repetive as fuck.
The manga was actually pretty good; excepting possibly the first season, the Anime seems to have been entirely filler. But yeah, it was pretty episodic overall; Rumiko Takahashi's works tend to suffer badly from the status quo being god, so the plot moved at a glacial pace at the best of times and nothing ever got resolved.
You and me both.
Ryoga's gf is boring anyway. Ukyo or Anna from that one anime episode would have been better.
Hell, Ranma would have been better. There isn't a universe that exists in which you could convince me that Takahashi didn't whip up Akari on the fly.
I don't think they covered that arc in the anime.
Ukyo's got her issues, mostly stemming from Genma making bullshit promises for food (again), but compared to Shampoo she's the paragon of sanity.
That arc was great.
There were several arcs that got skipped over or never got animated because the anime ended years before the manga did. I'm comfortable in the knowledge that Akari is a figment of someone's imagination and never officially existed in the show.
Ranma can beat anyone in martial arts through the power of the Anything Goes school.
If he doesn't succeed at first he just needs an arc to find a new technique and come back up on top.
Alternatively... Any Yamcha before Z? Yes. Post-Z Yamcha not so sure.
There wasn't a goddamn elephant until you walked it in here, fagzorla.
She always had it in her to write stuff like Inuyasha. She tried something different and it sorta worked. It lasted long enough.
Also you forgot goddamn Urusei Yatsura, the romantic comedy manga that every other romcom aspires to be.
You fags aren't really Shampoo and Ukyo fans. If you were you would be getting along and love them both.
Actually, if it aint in the manga it aint canon and everything in the manga is canon, so there's that.
They're both equal in different ways. Shmpoo is better looking and stronger while Ukyo is best waifu material and makes better food.
I don't believe the Musk Dynasty arc was animated, either. That would have been a great one to have seen, with Ranma, Ryoga, and Mousse going bro-tier to fight those fucking furries.
Two ways to look at it:
Yamcha at his introduction is basically a one-off Ranma character. His big deal early on was that he was capable and fast, and later on his deal was that he had excellent chi control... which ended up being a useless specialization because everyone could move too quick for him to deal with. Yamcha, after training with Roshi, would be end-game tier for Ranma. Large pool of chi, powerfully destructive techniques and superhuman physicality put him on equal footing with Ranma's toughest foes, even ignoring that Yamcha was a talented martial artist when he was introduced.
But Ranma is from a comedy series, where he is the lead. He basically has to win, ultimately, at the end of the story. He's also not afraid to run away if he's going to lose, and then come back after he's learned some sort of trick to beat his enemy, somehow. Plus early Yamcha had that girl-phobia, which Ranma would exploit to hell.
Late game Yamcha would basically require Ranma to spend an entire volume dealing with, and both Happosai and Cologne would need to teach him something to beat the guy.
Yeah, we were never going to get lucky enough to have her actually not win the Ranmab owl, even if she was completely ill-suited for him.
There, now you don't have to waste time on that crap
They're a good match in a conceptual level. This was clear at the very beggining but even if it strayed off path it was mostly kept 'til the end.
Akane is delicate woman who struggles to be seen as one because her activities make her look tough and manly.
Ranma is tough and manly and struggles to be seen as STRONK while constantly turning into a slut (result from a sexy body and a boy's shamelesness).
I actually preferred the dub, but mostly because I was an Ocean Group fanboy and those were the voices I became accustomed to hearing these characters speak with. There's nothing wrong with the subs, just personal preference with this particular series.
Why couldn't we get best end?
And because it was delayed and the manga ended you can imagine it got cancelled.
Or not really, because they're really fated to be together. Everything else was just delaying the inevitable in extremely funny ways.
Disagree completely. She was never what Ranma wanted out of a companion or a mate, and she would bore him because she was a) no challenge for his skills despite the Tendo school being Anything-Goes Martial Arts the same as the Saotome school, and b) Ranma couldn't fight her anyway because "muh code". She represents anathema to him, a combative opponent he couldn't actually combat even though he could have kicked her through a wall whenever he pleased, and he represents anathema to her because he won't see her as a worthy martial artist, won't fight her as an equal, and won't treat her the way she wants to be treated because (thanks to Genma) it's "beneath him". The frustration alone would split them up. They are an incompatible couple no therapist could ever puzzle-piece together. Plus, like you said, Ranma was playing that "slut and getting away with it" game that Akane herself could never play, and she resented him for that as well.
And yet they still loved each other because Ranma could see the sweet girl behind the brute. It's more questionable that Akane would like him back, but she managed to get his nice side out time and time again, losing his machismo façade to be nice to her or honestly praise her.
They're a great couple.
I recall some artist recently out of japan that drew mostly older stuff like ranma and lum and the like. he was drawing some weird spinoff of it though, dunno if it was canon as I never read the manga.
but there was ranma, male ranma, and a younger female ranma... each with their own set of the same memories but different personalities.
I should have expected this, but I was hoping it would pass this thread by.
If you're going to love Ranma you should love both sides.
The fact that 3/4ths of every Ranma doujin ever had these two together made me really like them.
Your short-sightedness is reducing their whole relationship to an issue of gender inequality. While that certainly was a big part of it, they had a higher level of actual mutual trust than with any other characters.
That's a load of shit. What they had was Akane trying to prove herself his equal (she wasn't) and Ranma being a greedy and possessive manwhore who hated to lose. Nothing about their relationship could be called healthy, much less love. Inventing words to read between the lines is a far greater sin than "short-sightedness". These two were a trainwreck, plain and simple.
This bitch was the only actual real woman in the entire show. I almost felt sorry for Kuno, because after she marries him she'll poison him for his money.
Clearly the best Girl, She's the one supporting the whole family
>She used him to try and bait Ranma with jealousy.
If you're talking about the Tunnel of Lost Love she only picked Ryoga because she wanted Ranma and Akane to walk through the tunnel and break up.
Akane was the one to use Ryoga to make Ranma jealous.
>read between the lines
The author was writing a love comedy and they were the main characters. You don't have to read between the lines. You know a priori that they have romantic feelings for each other. Also, if you were at least not as dense as Ranma himself you should be able to see it reading the manga or watching the anime too.
Just because the author was a ham-fisted hack contriving unrealistic relationships that would be doomed in any other medium doesn't mean it's a good thing to have those relationships actually be given credence. This isn't fucking Disney.
We know they have genuine moments with each other but it's not enough to counter all her stupid bullshit and the point that they don't make sense for each other in lifestyle or personality.
>They're both martial artists.
This in insulting. By comparison to everyone else Akane is NOT a martial artiest. Most of the time all you do is see her jogging in the mornings and breaking block. She's shit as a martial artiest.
>They're both violent assholes that are actually soft on the inside
Ranma is the least violent out of most of the cast. Everyone is always starting fights with him more then half of the time and that includes Akane.
And the obvious is that their relationship would never work. It didn't work SO MUCH that they cancelled their own wedding, with no resolution. Even the ham-fisted hack realized how ridiculous it was by the finale, and gave up because even for a love comedy it was too unbelievable to go through with it.
>She's shit as a martial artiest.
She's a normal martial artist.
>Ranma is the least violent
He'll always go for his fists before he tries to talk things out. He's a posturing meathead who loves beating up people and proving he's superior.
Oh boy, here we go. . .
Shampoo is a better martial artist than Akane can ever hope to be.
And she's more violent and softer inside than anyone in ranma's half.
And Shampoo is better looking too.
> tfw beside Ranma, I don't know who is who because of french localization
So does Ranma ever fuck Adeline or not ?
He befriended Ryoga when they were little. Ranma's concept of friendship, of course, involves literally stepping on him to rob him of his lunch. Day after day for who knows how long.
As for Taro he didn't go out of his way to befriend him. He faced him as an opponent and when he found out his problem he pitied him... annnnd went back to beating him up when Taro showed that he didn't give a shit about his pity.
>She's a normal martial artist.
Even normal martial artist keep trying to better themselves. All Akane ever did was use shit like a battle suit and ramen to make herself overpowered.
>He'll always go for his fists before he tries to talk things out.
Never said that Ryoga doesn't have his good points but you can't deny that Ranma has wanted to be friends with him for forever but Ryoga is never interested.
Ranma has a bizarre concept of friendship. I think they never really started out that way but eventually became that way through shared experiences. The rival-turned-bff trope was alive and well when this series came out.
>Next thing you're going to tell me you were actually disappointed because Taiga won Toradora.
In the anime, Taiga was closer to Akane and a much bigger cunt then her manga or LN counterparts.
Also Ryuji was a fucking puss bag in the anime.
They did start out like "friends". Classmates who hung out together and kept fighting each other over the littlest things. Perfect rivals.
One good testimony of their friendship is that Ranma was honestly concerned about Shirokuro and knew the fastest way to Ryoga's house to go check on her.
... at the same time the same episode has Ryoga lying to Ranma just to get his help and then Ranma posing as Ryoga's sister and messing with his poor slow mind.
>As for Taro he didn't go out of his way to befriend him.
There were a bunch of times where Ranma tried to befriend him by trusting him in a team up to stop Happy and his bullshit.
It was ultimately Taro who always betrayed his trust
I did mention that it was Taro who didn't care for Ranma's pity. There's a difference between pity and friendship.
Also Ranma was also essentially trying to get Taro to stop attacking them since he IS a lot to handle.
>Because Ranma is an asshole to Ryoga constantly.
But none of it was intentional, Ranma was just a retarded dense motherfucker who doesn't pay the fuck attention. If Ryoga would learn to forgive and just let Ranma try to make it up to him (like he tried to do in the beginning) they could actually be good friends.
It's Ryoga who doesn't want to make amends with Ranma. Ranma is perfectly willing to say sorry (like in the beginning with the bread)
Their issues stemmed primarily from lack of respect for each other. Ranma didn't figure Ryoga to be tenacious enough a competitor to give him pause, and Ryoga thought Ranma was a thieving coward who wouldn't even face him in a fair fight. That they were both totally wrong about each other was something that had to be worked through over time. By the time of the resolution of the Musk Dynasty arc, they're basically best pals and their asshole-ish behavior towards each other is almost banter instead of bashing. Ryoga gained a friend who didn't see him as being a pushover or just an annoyance anymore and who actually respected him as a fighter, and Ranma gained a friend who could give him a challenge worthy enough to bring out the best in himself and who wouldn't just go away if he happened to lose.
>here's a difference between pity and friendship.
Just because someone can related to your situation doesn't mean it's all pity nor does it mean that that someone doesn't want to actually be your friend.
That's the mistake Taro kept making
Shampoo was better suited for Ranma than Akane.
Ryoga's girlfriend was better suited for Ryoga than Akane.
Nabiki was better suited for Kuno.
Ukyo was better suited for Mousse.
Akane was better suited for
>This didn't get animated
>The koi rod arc didn't get animated
>The Herb arc didn't get animated
Holy fuck they missed half the best Fem-Ranma stories.
The bread wasn't even the issue. And an apology ten years later isn't going to cut it, even if it was. And hell, he only tried that because the Tendos made him realize he was a dick.
Never forget who raised Ranma.
Makes you wonder how the anime would have gone if they had decided to wait until the manga was completed before producing the anime.
>Shampoo was better suited for Ranma than Akane.
>Ryoga's girlfriend was better suited for Ryoga than Akane.
Only because she was literally created for him and has no personality outside of wanting Ryoga's dick and pigs.
>Nabiki was better suited for Kuno.
>Ukyo was better suited for Mousse.
Wait what? She would have been ok with Ryoga. Better then Akari anyway.
>Akane was better suited for No one
Taro made no mistakes. Taro don't give no shits.
He's his own man and doesn't need friends. He just wants a cute girlfriend. If only he could introduce himself to one of the many cuties that want him.
I'm not sure I'd even want that this late in the game. A modernized Ranma 1/2 series would be poisoning what came before it.
>But thats gaaaaay
And there is something wrong with that?
I hope Ryoga is into bisexual relations.
There's a significant difference between Shampoo crushing Mousse's feelings constantly right in his face and Ranma being extremely friendly with Ukyo and considering her as a cute fiancee.
Mousse once almost cursed an entire host of innocent spectators to be ducks just because he was trying to do the same to Akane to make Ranma suffer. Mousse was one of the people that joyfully abused Ranma while he was weak.
Mousse is not nice people.
I'm sure he'd get used to it.
I hate it when Anons think Ryoga would only love Ranma's cursed side. Ryoga isn't that kind of guy.
I love the more Shojo looking art.
Nabiki is fairly high tier
Ranma ½ and
Harry Potterhave the same problem where the officially ordained relationships have no chance in hell at actually working, despite better options for the MC being readily available.
>no chance in hell at actually working
According to what? Your opinion? Considering you're completely misreading the very basic characterization the characters have, your expertise seems to be questionable at best.
