You missed a pretty big thread, although most of it was just dumping favorite chapters.

There was also a chart in progress detailing how the stories are connected in-universe.

One of my favorites. So sad to see it go.

I saw it in the archives. I was honestly hoping for a more upbeat or touching finale, but I wonder if maybe it's not supposed to be an allegory for the series' cancellation. I got the feeling that Dowman was heartbroken to see it come to an end.

Will any one his work get a faithful adaptation by shaft?

Look at it this way - it might have been axed, but Dowman was able to wrap it up decently with a nice little allegory about storytellers, and the nature of stories. I liked it. Like a nice old man reading bed time stories to you, the reader, but he suddenly has to leave and promises he'll return some day to tell you more stories. A little depressing, though, with the NTR, but Dowman's stories have always had the undercurrent of love being a dark and melancholy thing.

Oh I agree. It's a really clever message wrapped up in characteristic Dowman fashion, I was just expecting something more upbeat. I do love the way he managed to convey that sense of heartbreak without ever resorting to tears or exaggeration. There's no crying or death or excessive negativity, just a mild, bitter sense of loss. Just enough to bring you down.

I hate to gush like this, but I guess that in and of itself is pretty beautiful.

IMO they did a pretty good job on the first season of Zetsubou Sensei. It kind of has the same vibe that Dowman's work has, so that's why I think they would do a good job.

I like Voynich. I don't think he can complete the manga by the end of the third volume even though he said he was. However, I do think he can complete it by the end of a fourth volume if he decides to do it. The ending is probably going to be as open as the endings to his other shit though.

Well, if I can have some objections:

The Volume 1 omake should connect to chapter 9, because that's where she cuts her hair.
I'd put mentions of the young sister having sex in chapter 16, so it's much clearer what you're referrencing. You could also show the nameplate from chapter 32.
You could also list the unlinked chapters, maybe someone will find connections to them.
And I think "Downmanverse" sounds cooler than written separatedly.

I've been thinking about this too; you can identify at a glance what makes Dowman's art different, but identifying what exactly makes it so pleasant to look at is a whole different ball game. Unfortunately I don't think I'm well versed enough in art and character design to figure it out, but I can definitely say that eye shape, facial variety and expression, and line thickness play a big role.

Probably the former. Voynich used to be monthly, so at a time he has around 50 pages a month with all of his series.

Oddman 11 (48 pages or so per year assuming 8 pages bimonthly), Suicide Parabellum (70 pages or so per year), Voynich (page count per chapter has increased, so let's just go with 6 * 9 as a middle-ground and make it 54 pages), and Ayame x Amane (around 12 pages per year) are his ongoing series right now. Paraiso ended a few months ago.

Even Oddman 11's general plot outline is basically Scott Pilgrim but gayer.

And one of the stories in Sexual Instinct was a parody of en episode of Twilight Zone. Since the short ended with the gay sniper dieing in the exploding plane, it's weird that he decided to use the character in Voynich.

That episode is pretty popular, I've seen quite a few mangaka parody it. My favorites parodies are by Dowman and Sugimura Shinichi.

I downloaded the first volume of Nickelodeon forever ago and loved it, but sort of fell behind reading anything else by this author.
