Actually, the character designs, all of them, are something within the bounds of what can be done in a live action. Pushing to the edge, of course, but it'd just be more awesome to see it like that. Of course, a good anime adaptation would be good, too, but there are differences. *monogatari is more self-contained. Shaft always draws everything practically empty. Ha, like that classroom where Kanbaru was. There was nobody there, at all. Until it turned out there are people, after all. It's not like this is anime-only thing, either, what I've read from the novels carries that same feeling of emptiness. Zaregoto, however, is slightly different. The background may BE there, but we simply don't care for it. Background may it be, and pure nonsense may it be, I felt it there, and provided for me the needed juxtaposition to the nonsense of the main plot, of the main actors. A genius, a savant, is a savant, is a genius, precisely because he/she is different from the rest of the world. In other words. *monogatari works as anime so that the backgrounds are just not there; Zaregoto would work as live action so that the backgrounds are just there.
