What's up /a/, you know what time it is: A Galaxy Angel thread. Last week I stayed on my ass for 12 hours interacting with the few GAbros we had and I'd like to think I even got some anons into the games. Talk about anything GA related, it's all something we love. If you weren't here the last two decent GA threads, the situations for the game goes like thus
The First trilogy is readily available and are completely translated. I used the site Erogedownload since they have all the links working last time I checked. The order goes Galaxy Angel, Moonlit Lovers, and Eternal Lovers.
The Second trilogy however can only be played on a PS2 emulator (I recommend PCSX2) and with the proper files. Check some torrents. I believe another anon mentioned that he was seeding all three games while I'm seeding the 2nd and 3rd. The second series' order is Zettai Ryoiki no Tobira (ZRnT), Mugen Kairo no Kagi (MKnK), and Eigou Kaiki no Toki (EknT).
I wish to make a thread every Friday and if it is successful, have it carry on over to the weekend. Due to a rather recent computer switch, I don't have my data for the first trilogy so I will be replaying them. I've 100%'d ZRnT and can post some shitty cropped pictures (they''re decent enough). I'll be posting some pics of my replay of the 1st trilogy and eventual CG's of the MKnK since I've only done 2 routes but I'm currently on a 3rd playthrough.
Let's have a comfy time, have some music
And if you liked that, have all the tracks from the first 3 games.
Since it's a staple of this thread of not getting people in for the next few hours. Time to post pics
I probably won't be wrong if I said the thread might die while I play the first game again
Well that just kills my motivation to play if I can't screencap and post.
Best sidecharacters incoming
It's been a good week and I know GAbros are out there.
You best believe I'm not letting this thread die
Knowing you all will most likely go for either Mint or Vanilla, I might as well play Chitose's route
Games are pretty decent. Not amazing but a pleasant experience
Galaxy Angel Rune is inferior to the games however
You probably need to post this thread at night, there's no way that daytime /a/ will know what GA is.
Just finished the first season recently, and will seek out the games soon. I'd be 100% OK if this franchise gets a revival of interest in the near future. Early 2000s bros didn't know what a good thing they had.
Forgot I need to beat a route to unlock Chitose's.
Time for Vanilla again
I think I should have done that but oh well.
I got nothing else to do today. I've got three whole games to play through again
Can't tell you how much I love this tune
I'll admit, the existence of that Newgrounds game reminded me of the series.
Games are fun, you'll get attached to characters nicely
>I'd be 100% OK if this franchise gets a revival of interest in the near future. Early 2000s bros didn't know what a good thing they had.
It did. It was called Milky Holmes and it was about as GA as this current era of anime fan would be able to take, an actual Galaxy Angel revival or remake would remove the humor and turn the characters into painful cliches. And yes we did know how good we had it, I was starting to digisub in groups shortly after Di Gi Charat's first season. The early 2000s were great and even now serve as a goldmine of great series nobody seems to know about.
milky homes was shit, fuck you for comparing it with GA
My the times have changed.
To think the final game came out in 2009
>Fuck you for comparing it with GA
It's completely comparable, it's a media-mix broccoli production with no canon source material whereby the anime takes a comedic surreal twist from the rest of the franchise on purpose.
Di Gi Charat, Galaxy Angel and Milky Holmes are spiritual successors of each other, updated to parody current anime of the time.
I have a handful of series I honestly refuse to look at lewds at. GA being one of them.
They're just too pure
Hard to believe that she gets to be a better
Commanderthan Tact does
>mfw when I wake up and there's a GA thread
I just completed Chitose's route a while back and I'm working on Vanilla's now.
Lester must have felt so awkward in Chitose's EL route.
Expect a GA thread every Friday anon.
Lester is a bro
What's Normad like in the games? Or is he anime original?
She thinks love might be an illness.
The anime might have driven away some people but by god, she's so comfy
After playing the entire series, you have no idea how nostalgic it is playing the 1st series again.
Especially back on the good ol ship. The crew members don't get too much time unlike the second series though
Best theme but has the weaker routes in the series.
Somewhat both happy and angry at that.
I really must do everything
Of the original trilogy, which games did you anons like the best?
For some reason I liked Moonlit the most, because the beginning was so easygoing, and seeing how each angel individually reacted to Chitose was great. Each game had something I really liked about it though.
>GA seemed like it had the most walking around events
>ML had the best battles
>EL had the best plot twists
I can't begin to decide which had the better soundtrack though.
Autism hit hard since we'll never have the full Angel Wing cast sing this (that's 14 voices, 2 of them male)
Would you believe me when I say the rap part grew on me after a few years?
Soundtrack goes to EL, since it has every song from the two games beforehand while giving us a few new songs. The new combat theme and Val-Fasq theme are still my favorites.
The way I see it, the first one was pretty much the best while ML and EL have different formulas in tackling how the routes went.
ML had routes branch into the bigger route while EL just had the entire "you're on this girl's route'" feeling the entire time.
But the second series is so good, you anons really need to try em
>Would you believe me when I say the rap part grew on me after a few years?
I never minded it when it was just Forte who was doing it. Mayumi Yamaguchi's deep voice works surprisingly well for that.
>Soundtrack goes to EL, since it has every song from the two games beforehand while giving us a few new songs.
Oh, I didn't realize. I felt like it was missing some stuff from the first game, but that's probably just an oversight on my part.
>But the second series is so good, you anons really need to try em
Soon, soon. I've been studying nip harder than usual to get up to snuff just for these and another game or two.
Crew to crew interactions work a lot better making the characters feel a lot better than the ones in the first series. Since the MC is the same rank as the Angel Wing, he has a lot of different interactions than a commander would.
AKA, respect isn't mandatory so it makes for much livelier crew.
Also helps that he fights with them so he can pull more action stunts and have more romantic conflict
I need a little break from all this Vanilla moe.
Go play the 2nd series, Anise a best
Kisses for the anons who hopefully play the second series.
Seriously, every single line is spoken (even the MC) so I didn't have trouble at all understanding
Two games later and still nobody
GA Route Ranks
Vanilla > Mint > Ranpha > Milfie > Forte
ML Route Ranks
Vanilla > Chitose > Milfie > Mint > Ranpha > Forte
Mint > Chitose > Milfie > Vanilla > Forte > Ranpha
Fuck man, I saw it coming a mile away, but still
That always really bugged me about the Hell Hounds. They could have probably been cool characters, but they didn't do shit with them.
Even if only one survived (somehow) and went on to be part of the remnants in ML for whatever angel's route you did, they could have probably done something more interesting with them.
Definitely could have done a lot of things with them or just make them reoccurring villains. They are unfortunately the only "rival" enemies we'll get the entire series.
Although the bad guys in the 2nd series' 2nd game are pretty good
Easiest mission following. I don't even need to look
So playing the first two chapters, here's what I learnt of the differences between combat in the two trilogies. (other than Kazuya)
Comparing the second series to the first one:
Energy consumption is huge compared to the 1st game, while you won't be healing as much, you'll be going to resupply a lot more often.
Then there's everyone's special attacks. The 2nd game is a lot more forgiving on this regard since everybody will usually pull it off at least once in a fight. The 1st game usually had your chosen Angel use it the most but that's not the case as much in the 2nd series.
The damage is really low in the 2nd series it seems. Ranpha usually gets wrecked if she isn't supported by even the fastest fighter in the 2nd game isn't blown out of the way.
The PCSX2 isn't able to do the disk-swap feature so unless I go invest money in a PS2 and all three games, we won't be seeing our MC being forced to crossdress or Natsume's route
Balance wise that sounds great. My biggest problem with the first game in the first trilogy was the fact that enemies go down so damn easy. Especially the cruiser types.
How useful is the new ship in the second series? The Elsior is painfully under armed being just a ceremonial ship. In subsequent playthroughs I ended up challenging myself by having the Elsior fight alongside the Angel Wing instead of just keeping my distance.
The new ship Luxiole is pretty good when it comes to fighting. But once again, size and lack of speed makes it an easy target. That being said, it's just below the allied Cruiser in terms of firepower when compared to the first game.
I say that because you get like 2 fights with allies in the entirety of the second series.
Lorewise, The Luxiole was commissioned as the successor to the Elsior and was given a lot of new shit. If you manage to play the second games, that feature is pretty surprising
Gonna put this up before I talk about final fights
Final fights get mad props from me and are a massive improvement over the final fights in the first series of games.
GA had you blasting through satellites while getting the Elsior to the opposite edge of the map. It was meh.
ML removed your strongest fighter and had the rest of the 5 doing the same thing, only fast ships closed in on the Elsior and it a big improvement.
EL was an all out battlefield with everyone present and the final ship was pretty tough to kill.
ZRnT (look at the OP) basically does an EL. Only it was somewhat lackluster in hindsight. The final mission had 11 Emblem Frames against one bigass ship. While admittedly very tough to take down, it really was just for everyone to gang up on.
MKnK had the best final mission. You 7 ships to command while protecting the Luxiole (main ship) to the edge of the map. So similar to GA and ML. Only thing is that the enemy's main ship isn't stupid and takes chances to fire at you too. So you're constantly changing directions with the Luxiole while making sure the fighters aren't gunned down by the laser too.
EKnT seems easy as hell at first since before you even destroy a single ship, everyone gets their specials charged up and everybody starts to yell. Then you realize the bigger ships have special attacks as well and aim at the Luxiole for potshots. The main enemy's ship also takes a lot to take down but then like the 2nd game shoots its own massive weapon at given locations.
I won't spoil what's actually behind these fights so yeah
Lester knew why you were allowed to play around with pretty girls all day.
Our new friend here doesn't take it too lightly that you get to do that. He's still pretty cool though
Time to put down some CG from ZRnT. We'll start with Apricot, Milfie's sister.
Dem hands tho. Her arranged theme is comfy as hell
Less picnics done by the willing Milfie means slave driving that friend of yours that happens to be the cook for the entire ship
Hearing that your sister's been kidnapped is pretty harsh
>14 years old
Vanilla was that age or one below back in the first game
The worst thing Tact had to go through in his time as the protagonist most likely won't equal the pain that Kazuya goes through here
>14 years old
How old is Kazuya anyway by comparison? I was going to do Apricot's route first when I get to the second trilogy. She's just too damn cute.
And yeah, Vanilla was 13 in the first games.
Next in line is Lily, Forte's trained student and member of the royal guard
Due to actual plot, Lily joins the crew halfway and puts Kazuya through some rigorous bonding time to match the others. She takes after her instructor
Unlike Lester, we later learn what's really behind those bangs
Lily isn't cliche enough to really pull a sword out at people. If royalty is involved however, she's pretty much there to cut people
That's fucking great.
Unlike Vanilla's stoicism and suppressed emotions, Nano here is a clump of nanomachines so she can do whatever the hell she wants.
Even after all those years, Vanilla's naming sense hasn't improved
Much like the original crew, everyone minus the Sakuraba siblings have a strange way of communication.
Lily is prone to saying "Ok-da" or "NG-da" to express positive and negative answers.
Nano literally adds Nano-da to everything she says
Kahlua cannot speak unless there's an ARA~ in there
And Anise talks like a dude
So technically speaking, Nano is Vanilla's daughter. (and by extension, Tact's daughter too)
Apparently she likes her loli form and she's perfectly capable of turning herself into anything she wants
The genki-girl gets the most surprising of routes. Go experience it for yourself
Two for one deal. Kahlua is comfy incarnate while Tequila adds spice
My hands need a fucking break but like hell anyone else is gonna keep this alive.
Kahlua's love is pretty straightfoward
The other half however takes a bit to convince. Kazuya does plenty of impressive feats but initiating on to the assertive one surprised even me
Anise is introduced as an enemy trying to get some money by stealing Kazuya's Emblem Frame but apparently she was affiliated with Mint's company and the destruction of some property led to her to being recruited to the Angel Wing to pay off debt
Sure she looks weak and vulnerable. Kazuya then gets kicked and Anise runs away laughing
With all the food and comfort you could want, who would actually want to leave?
Anise settles her debt but hey, legally blowing up ships is fun
How unaware is Anise of her own sex? She doesn't understand why Kazuya runs off
The moment Anise DOES realize that she's attracted to Kazuya is pretty nice. It's a case of Vanilla where she has no idea why she feels this way when Kazuya is around
So after telling Kazuya to go away, Anise runs toward him but at the last second has no idea what she actually wants to do with him and ends up kicking him to the wall. After he gets up, she pulls herself together.
What's nice is that both parties try in the 2nd series tries to solve the problem instead of Tact doing fucking everything
They own a chain of anime/game stores in Japan called "Gamers" if I remember right.
Di Gi Charat was made by them to be their mascot I think. While they're around still, >>111443793 is how it is. Broccoli actually had plans to bring the series over for localization, but it fell through at some point. Probably after their American branch packed up and left. Damn shame.
I wonder how the nips feel about GA. If they still remember it, or it got relegated to obscurity like on the English speaking net.
That's most of ZRnT.
Like hell I'm going to do MKnK now, I still got 2 routes left.
I need a break. Have some best sidecharacter
An anon from last week's thread gave us a nice summary of what happened:
>Galaxy Angel was fun and popular; thanks to the English dub and the translated manga.
>Seemed that the hardliner Japanese HATED its popularity.
>Bancolding$ stopped dubbing Galaxy Angel midway. The manga stopped being translated midway.
>Bandai "USA" wanted to sell us expensive sub-only animu (including the anti-shounen Galaxy Angel Rune).
>Everyone moved on to better animu than the Galaxy Angel series and only a few people liked it.
>Finally, the people behind Bandai "USA" said some shit nobody liked. That's why they're now selling animu through 2nd parties.
That was in regards to the English-speaking popularity if I remember. Hardliner Japanese meaning the English fans who only liked the sub and hated the dub. I think that was the explanation he gave me when I asked.
Seeing as Bandai or Broccoli decided it was worth it to make BD sets, I'm guessing some of them still like the show. I couldn't find any sales data though.
And if anything, I like the second series opening because less rap
And how do you know side characters are more important? They actually show up in the opening and cutscenes
I can only imagine how fun and confusing doing the voice recording for that episode must have been for the main cast.
Makes sense. Maybe one day we'll get some kind of spin off or tie in again. Honestly, I'd be happy if they just made some more merchandise again. Most of the old figures seem to be of questionable quality, and I can't find anything like keychains and other small goods for Mint.
If Cospa would make something like a pinched chibi keychain for Mint, I'd be all over that shit,
Figures really started getting great around 2009-2010. I'd be all over merchandise if they made it but oh well.
If anything, lack of good fanart hurts. The side characters are pretty likable in the second series
Pic related is a pretty recent meme so I guess there are still fans out there
I fucking love that mission. It's those giant lazer satellites from the last mission of the first game, and your Angel goes through them like a hot knife through butter. Power of love, baby.
If you want to see hot butter on knife, I'd direct to you to the final mission of series.
Every second will be the angels saying that their special is ready and lots of hype yelling will ensue.
To add to the mechanical slaughter, your healer ship can switch been Repair Wave and her own offensive special
The latest figure (pic related) I know about was released in 2006, but the figure quality was pretty good. Only thing I didn't like about it was the sculpt itself just didn't look correct.
Damn shame. I'd even consider getting GKs, because some are decent, but even E2046 doesn't have them in stock.
I'd take keychains too, legit anything.
Artbook hunting might be a good place to start for anyone. I think there's around 4
Mint and Anise were all about breaking those barriers getting into the warmth inside
GA II feels like an anime in a sense there's intermissions, eyecatch transitions, and by treating every chapter like an episode by having an opening and closing.
This song really made it work for me
I knew that pose looked familiar.
Unluckily, there's not many really good quality GKs out there period. Mint has the most though. There's a set of chibi trading figures I wouldn't mind getting my hands on though.
She was so cute though. I couldn't help but overlook the drama stuff because imagine if you could read everyone's minds. That would probably fucking suck even more in reality.
Everything neatly ended up like this
Milfie, Ranpha, and Mint got stopped by Lushati while Forte, Vanilla, and Chitose got wrekt by Wein. It somehow numerically fight.
Wonder how Lushati would end up piloting the 7th Emblem Frame. Her theme is what made me go get all the first series' OST.
Damn, the fact that the shit that happened in EL is still relevant to the end of the series makes me wonder in awe. What other series of games had 5 fucking direct sequels?
Rune the anime is meh
Rune the game is great.
If you liked the characters and wanted non-sociopathic versions of them, then the games are right up your ally
Yeah, she really took it to another level compared to the other girls routes I've done. Forte didn't seem very phased by her though. As a matter of fact, Tact was more jealous of Wein being around Forte than Lushati being with Tact. Naturally given how mature she is compared to the rest of them.
You could probably still find the first of those Mint figures somewhere since it was a regular production completed figure. The other two though are kits you have to paint up made by indie manufacturers. GKs are like the doujinshi of the figure world. Getting them would be just about impossible unless you can find a recast, which is what E2046 usually sells.
Maybe they'd pop up on Yahoo Japan Auctions if you're lucky.
Games, absolutely. The first three are translated.
Rune, I never watched but the anime has a bad rep. The games Rune are based off of though are apparently very good, as OP is very enthusiastic about them, and the myriad of screenshots show how much fun they look like.
Seems to me the thread is somewhat picking up.
Time for hugs
I used to be able to read GA doujin before I watched the show and played the games. Now, I just can't.
Though, some had nice inserts at the end. Like pic related. At least I think that one was from a doujin. I can't remember anymore.
I can't take GA doujins.
It's taboo. They're Angels for a reason
Second game is the best one since romantic rival shows up and watching how the problem is handled was pretty fucking cool.
I don't even understand.
We talking State or the country?
>not wanting to teach your Angel about grown-up kisses
If anything, chosen Moon Angel and Tact are married
So has any anon except me start the 2nd series?
Val-Fasc guy reminds me of Yzak Joule from Gundam Seed with that haircut. I don't think I can stop seeing the resemblance, no matter how hard I try.
The resemblance is pretty damn scary. I don't blame you. If anything, our Val-Fasc friend is absolutely by the books but tries to adapt to "human" emotions. All that drama with Tact putting faith in the Val-Fasq is handled surprisingly well
you mean the anime right?
if you mean the games, I tried playing them but they were in japanese, years later I tried the english version but shit didn`t run. I`m still mad as fuck about the game not running with the english patch.
Is there a already patched version of the game?
State of course.
I made the same lame joke in the Haruhi thread that was talking about GA.
I think I was in that thread
But just to be sure, got an archive link?
For the hell of it, I might as well find recent works done by the VA's of some of the angels.
The most relevant one off the top of my head was Nano Nano's VA who is doing the apparent fan favorite from what I've seen Akame Ga Kill threads
Chitose's VA voiced in Senran Kagura and Samurai girls.
Such a sweet voice too.
I wish Saori Goto (Chitose) did more stuff. Her voice is really cute. Especially when she stutters. I guess that's just another reason for me to watch Yuru Yuri again.
Well shit, Roselle was fucking SUGISAKI
Val-Fasc bro is Kondo from Gintama
I will never miss anything that is related to Asakura. Haruhi had good threads but it sucks being an older series
Kinda sad that more than half the Rune Angel troupe don't do voices anymore.
They were pretty nice
I'm going to take a mistimed late night shower because I fret over my hair a lot.
Have a screencap of me during THAT mission in EL
When I played GA, Vanilla is my primary target. But then Ranpha proved to be the best gf in the end. Wish I could marry someone like her.
I honestly don't think there are many that combine the VN aspect along with this game play aspect.
For the RTS, you'll mostly just find a lot of sci-fi games where you control fleets of a higher scale compared to the relatively small-scale conflicts found in GA.
I really can't think of a top down game, but if you're interested in issuing commands while watching from a 3rd person camera and having small scale conflict, Star Trek Bridge commander is the closest, and even that is a huge crapshoot away and nowhere near as streamlined as GA. And not animu. (though it is a damn good game with the right mods)
Rivaling in Mint for second place.
this pic is awesome, wish there was a higher quality one
Imagine how it feels for her to be in love with a legend
This image makes me ask myself why I haven't done Ranpha's route yet.
Luckily I decided she's up next once I finish Vanilla's routes.
Because her and her entire family are so distinguished. mfw I recognized Darno Blancmanche in the games because of this episode.
Lester's reaction to that scene was hilarious
I remember when Tact just waltzed up to their house
I riped about 150 sounds and voices of her from the anime, they are my cellphone tone, alarms and windows sounds. the ears sound is for when I open a folder. shit I can open folders all day long
I made sure to pick the option where you call Darno "dad", even though you don't get any additional points out of it. Fucking worth it.
Are you looking to take a screencap of the game stretched to fullscreen res, or do you want it to screencap preserving the original res?
Because I'm doing the latter like >>111454290 by using a program called puush (which is super fucking convenient for taking screencaps) for in game screencaps. Though, I am using Windows 7, but it shouldn't matter if you're using a program instead of the print screen function.
Not that I know of. I was considering learning how to time subs to rip from the old fansubs, but I'd probably do a really shitty job since I barely know what I'm doing. I only downloaded the rips so I can see how much better the quality was compared to the old fansubs.
The first season really benefited from the BD immensely, and the rest look a hell of a lot clearer.
I seriously needed more Noah in EL, I wanted her to have a subroute like Shiva did in the first game. Delicious brown tsundere loli Death Star. Not to mention I would have liked more details about her origins.
ML seriously ruined Mint for me; I went in having already heard there was a bunch of bullshit surrounding Lushati, but after it wasn't actually that bad on the other routes I wasn't ready for it on Mint's route. Thank god I was playing Chitose route last so I didn't end the game on a sour note. Chitose then wound up being my favorite after that, too bad her relationship development was stuck a game behind all the others.
Ranpha was so much better than I expected her to be; I thought she would be the biggest bitch of all with MISUNDERSTANDINGS, but she wasn't. She's still not my type, but her routes were plenty entertaining. Also her efforts to push Vanilla closer to Tact on Vanilla route in ML earned my respect.
Chitose and Mint's route in EL were great. ML is definitely the weakest.
Noah shows up a lot in the second series and is the one that chews out the Val-Fasq bro for what their people did to EDEN. One of my favorite scenes
She's still a massive bitch
Try Ctrl+Shift+3 and Ctrl+Shift+2. If neither works, try disabling Desktop Composition in GA.exe properties and then try it.
If none of that works, fuck windows 8.
I guess we can just chalk this up to Microsoft changing shit for no good reason again.
I ran into problems with EL's cutscenes not showing because of desktop composition, the whole screen staying black, so I thought the problems might be related.
I thought more people would have picked up the games but I guess time will tell
So are weekly threads worth it in the end? I still want to be convinced we got some more anons into the games
I basically forgot about it once I finished EL until I saw this thread. My Japanese isn't good enough to play untranslated console games, I have to stick with VNs where I can hook text for when I need to look something up in edict.
The games also run slow as shit for me in Windows 7. And for some reason I can take a screencap of the title screen, but as soon as I get into the game, nope black screen.
Dat Noah design. I'm not sure I'd like it if she's "a massive bitch" though, she was getting pretty dere in EL and it was fucking cute
And routes aside, one of the lamest things about ML was how shitty the Angel Wing's damage is against Val-Fasc battleships (and fighters too for that matter). Especially that final mission without the heroine; the Angels are basically distractions while I micromanage my battleships and cruisers to kill everything
Maybe it's because I can pick up words easily or something else but I don't think a high level of moon is required to understand the important aspects of the second series
The MC has fully spoken lines too
Well I'm tired as hell and won't be updating once I actually fall asleep.
So next week's thread will be made on Saturday or something like that. Might even post again this weekend if Rico's route is that adorable.
Until then, later GAbros.
