In this thread we post textures we've been working on and critique each other.
Here's mine, does it work as a martian texture?

Looks great. Is it seamless?

looks martiany, but you'd rather give the surface detail with the normals rather than the diffuse brightness.
>>559813
Yes it's seamless.
that's not martiany at all
Most of mars is covered in dust, and that's what gives it its red color. Rocky outcrops are darker/blacker.
Here's something I've been doing recently, go to the USGS astrogeology page and find a full-detail map of the surface: https://astrogeology.usgs.gov/search/map/Mars/Viking/MDIM21/Mars_Viking_MDIM21_ClrMosaic_global_232m
This is a 12GB public domain image, find yourself a little bit of dusty plain, crop it out, and run a seamless filter on it. I use these for reference for painting my own textures but I don't think anyone's going to notice if you cut out a little bit of the real thing.

Not bad, but if you plan to cover a great surface, the tiling will make the repetition of the central pattern (with the more visible shadows) too noticeable.
You better zoom out to cover more ground surface in your texture.
Also a little too saturated for my taste...
is there a method for creating realistic texture just with photoshop?
i seen a guy do it with bunch of filters

for rocky/terrain textures you can just emboss clouds and use some different layer modes to get the color right
