Same reason people use Blender when Maya is free. Loss aversion. When you've been using something a long time there's a psychological barrier that is too strong for most people to overcome that prevents you from abandoning the familiar. This is made even stronger when it's something you've paid for like Poser. Switching software creates the feeling that you're throwing away all those years you've invested in the original software.

Some people just see software as tools and switching software for them is no different than picking up another hammer but most people end up seeing their software as an extension of themselves and switching software creates a huge sense of loss so they don't switch when something better becomes available so they won't feel the sense of loss.
