There's a matter of fact tone coming from anon right now that stinks of ass. I would add another subiv level if I could. Anon seems to think its just like flipping a switch. Its not all down to the computer like he's saying either. The engine I use gives me animation control over performance. I cant be doing 200K per character and still get a decent framerate for VR. Looking into another engine would be time that I don't care to spend right now.

You might have not noticed it but a lot of design agencies use Daz to quickly and cheaply shit out things like flyers for festivals for example.

A lot of agencies love it because they don't have to create human characters from scratch and the clients don't care anyway if it's completely from scratch or modified bases.

This particular artist had to have had someone in mind, it's just not necessarily who you think it is. ojnady's actually one of the harder working celebrity morphers: he creates character-specific expressions that match the model, and in at least two cases for the males actually sculpted hair models.

His problem is that he's basing his definition of good enough on a full frontal and a side view which are a start but usually fail to get subtler contours like cheekbone depth right. His stuff's uncanny because it comes fairly close and then something's too flat or too prominent.

Don't bring video game terminology to Poser/DS-compatible figures. "Skins" implies a simple texture/texture overlay outside of vidya. When you take a figure, alter its proportions then give it diffuse/specular/bump/displacement maps, that's a character, not a skin. Hair, clothing and props sold separately.

The wasp abdomen is probably a base dial bundled with the figure, or a Morphs++ dial. The giant balloon tits could be any number of injectable third party morph packages like this one:

Smerinka went out of their way to make the diffuse map as generic as humanly possible with the possible exception of what appear to be minor stretch marks on the breasts' undersides (assuming those aren't render artifacts).

StudioArtVartanian, one of the genuinely decent Poser character sculptors out there died this week (of unknown causes). I'm linking her storefront not because I'm shilling but because it's a more concise depiction of her work than her gallery:

Almost all of these characters are V4/M4, sculpted in ZBrush. When she couldn't find a hair prop to match the actor she was modeling, she modeled it herself. She had excellent taste in model choices and didn't pick easy targets, nor did she set exorbitant prices for her work.

There are maybe three vendors out there who can do likenesses without cringe, and she was one of the best.

We can go back to laughing at tards now, sorry for the blog.

He was making this stuff for real-time playability. Optimization is not a "waste of time" when your goal is an acceptable frame rate. Some things can be more detailed but other things would have to be less so. The faces seem to be the focus so the bodies would have to take some hits in the complexity department. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, his GPU was some ancient budget card. The fact he can tease this kind of real-time detail out of such limited hardware is more proof that, rather than being critical of the cut corners, everyone should really just be sitting back and paying attention.

Two things need to be brought to your attention.

1- VR needs to render twice. Once for each eye. I shouldn't have to detail what this means for graphical complexities and processor load as, I assume, you understand the concept of multiplication.
2- You don't know what you're talking about. Period. To suggest that any level of detail can be performed by any level of hardware just because it's porn and not, say, a fighting game (which only has 2 models on-screen at any time) is kinda asinine. The models still have to be simplified and you're going to find blockiness depending on the angle at which you catch any curved surfaces. It's just the nature of optimization.

I see his technical achievements; he rigged a character from scratch in Blender, gave her an unconventionally attractive face with convincing visemes and in some cases mocap-tier body movements, and she has an appropriate character texture.

But everything he's done since has been trying to break away from what he did right. Noses become huge and tumblr-level reddened, smiles get wrinkles that you never see on faces that fat, abdomens roll not like fat but jelly in a plastic bag, and the mouths are just plain ghoulish.

So let's go technical with this character.
She's composed entirely of deliberate conflicting inconsistencies, with the underlying idea being "this makes her natural looking." If only.

Let's go through the obvious. Her upper body and her lower body look like they came from two women of different ages, diets and body types. Her jawline would be unusual even on a man. The facial map's burning specular shadow at the eyes where you'd at most want an AO map to handle this more gently; and the coloring on the cheeks is also being used to define depth on the head geometry at the sides, as though the blush of red should be a a shadow. The attention paid to heavily coloring the face is absent elsewhere on the body, with almost geisha like whiteness on the face. The ribcage is forming an inexplicable vertical divot and the smiles show age lines I expect to see on someone in their mid to late forties. The mouth extends as though the orbis didn't exist. The teeth follow a ridiculously perfect line where no teeth are particularly longer than any other; this is less common than you think and stands out. The ears are fucking red for no reason and no, while vascularization tints them slightly, not to this degree. There's no reason for the nose to be that long and that close to the upper lip, and the mouth has no business being that wide in a relaxed position. There's a sharp crease between the clavicles that just plain shouldn't be there. The artist didn't want to define the neck muscles and instead did something that looks like a wrinkle when the head's turned. The navel is far too high up and looks like a man's (yes, women who aren't fat tend to have vertical navels due to subtle differences in abdominal fat deposition). The vagina is too disturbing to even describe.

Sne is simultaneously lithe, fat, defined, undefined, youthful, and old.
