Yes, it's odd. Tarot is interesting, because I often find slighter archetypes than I thought were possible with the medium, except for my odd wrangling. All the odd ticks and vices of the people can come to surface.

there are various decks with differing themes. Some of those themes can influence the meaning of certain cards and some times it appears as though cards will pop up more frequently in others. For example, there's a halloween themed deck that has Death as a good thing (which it technically is in rider-waite but let's not get off topic) and for me personally, my own deck seems to really enjoy the Devil and Death.

I would suggest you practicing with the Major arcana first until you feel comfortable with the cards, once you are comfortable, by all means start using the suits.

A recommended ritual to internalize the card is very simple but effective. Get one of the cards every day, starting by the fool and if you are learning the suits, start by the ace then to the top. Meditate on a card each day. Look at the card and try to internalize it's meaning without looking at the meanings first. Once you finish the ritual then by all means read about the meanings.
