REQUESTING: ICP PIGGY PIE
You would make my day, thank you!!
This might be the right thread to ask:
I remember back in around '93 or '94, I got my first tv as a kid...
and I can to this day still remeber a scene from a music video (probably some rock music) where the band is playing in a dark green room probably brownish / moldy tiles on the walls and mossy glass tiles on the ceiling or something like that.
to this day I am looking for that song/video.
does that ring a bell to anyone? does anyone know which song that could have been?
>>1566664
Hmmm... any more images stuck in your mind?
My first association here was Tool, but the band itself has hardly ever been featured in any of their videos except for "Hush" and that one wasn't set in a tiled room...
The problem here is that the imagery sounds like so many alternative rock/metal videos...
>>1566475
Damn. Hit me pretty hard.
>>1566691
Thanks, I remeber watching a Tool music videos couple of years back, searching for mentioned video, but those weren't it. Sadly I don't hink I remeber any more, besides the video not beeing animated like those Tool videos were. but then again all that happened 20+ years ago, so my memory might also be wrong.
thank you anyways!

Oh wait until you hear the original by Ednaswap. There already were two versions by that band by the time Imbruglia covered the song. This is "noisy" version.
>>1567514
Fuck no idea that song was a cover thanks for the info anon.
>>1567514
wait, I got that a bit wrong. Ednaswap was the songwriters' band, but they originally handed out the song to Danish singer Lis Sorensen who released a version translated into Danish ("Brændt" which means 'burnt' rather than 'torn'), in 1993. However, they recorded it with their own band only later on (in 1995).
You can't spell "nineties" without "Radiohead".
Here's the most 90s-sounding song they've ever played. Has remained unreleased though.
>>1567195
>still
Whoa. So you mean you didn't throw away your CDs after copying them to your hard drive?
What a waste of space.
>>1567519
No, you were SORTA right. Ednaswap did release several versions, also an entirely more "pop" version that sounded quite lot like Natalie Imbruglia's later rendition.
Ednaswap, along with No Doubt (who of course went on to become hugely successful a bit later) were a bit of a "guilty pleasure" to me back then, since I was mostly into metal at that point, but both bands' lead vocalists were sexy rock chicks so that sorta rang with me.
Note that by the mid-90s, American alternative rock had already become sorta stale and it was the metal genre where a whole lot of innovation was taking place (with post-rocky stuff by Tool and the like, completely eclectic stuff by System of a Down and of course all the extreme metal that was washing over from Europe, as well as the sort of gothic/industrial revival stuff by NIN or Marilyn Manson or of course Rammstein, which used to scare the shit out of everyone way more than any homicidal Norwegian black metal maniac, even though they basically only did what Ministry and some other bands had already done years and years before)

>>1567578
Oh for fuck's sake! Same shit everywhere then.
To those who wonder: VIVA used to be Germany's local MTV-clone, but back then everything about that station was really low-budget and they were almost entirely focused on music, just like early MTV.
Some of the veejays and VJanes of that station actually went on to become highly successful actors, presenters, authors and suchlike. The one that comes to my mind here would be Heike Makatsch, who played the hot German chick in "Love Actually".

I think the 90s ended with 9/11, or when broadband really started kicking into high gear. Once internet really took off, a lot of people just moved away from the marketing channels of the record companies that they just never recovered from it.
People often cite piracy as the reason that the old record company model died, but really, when people jsut stop reading magazines, watching MTV to find the latest music and instead go online to see what the latest shit is, the old methods of marketing a new singer, boy group, band, etc. just couldn't possibly work.

Secondly: It was Bow Wow Wow's entire schtick to sexualise the lead singer even when she was only 13. When "I Want Candy" came out, not only was she already 15 but the video was also really tame compared to the controversial cover of the band's debut album.

>>1568007
So you're trying to tell me that the VHS release already went through additional digital colour grading?
Can't imagine that for the life of me, to be quite honest.
I mean the blu-ray colours are noticeably different – but not for the worse if you ask me. At least not ALWAYS.
They seemed to have used a more refined technique and, just to name an example, the "agents' " suits no longer look brownish but retain their original dark-grey colour.

PS:
I would like to elaborate this for a second:
I used to think that I was just misremembering the video for Beck's "Deadweight" there because in THAT video there's a sequence where Beck is literally dragged along the pavement by his shadow and, similar to this video, there are shots where you only see his upper body and the pavement.
The song also has a sort of psychedelic vibe to it. But I did ALSO distinctly remembere a video with such a sequence and, well, Goldfish in it. And a song that was way heavier in tone. But knew of no band or artist or song name to go with it. Just as it used to happen when a video didn't get a lot of airplay on MTV (at least where I live).
So for the best part of two decades I kept thinking that I just was mixing things up and that it was SOME song that I wrongfully associated with Beck's video.
But now the riddle has been solved and I'm very VERY grateful.
>>1568185

Yes, yes, the German music scene of the 90s was a mixed bag. First they played a pivotal role in unleashing the plague that would later become known as "Eurodance". Then they gave techno its parade. And still later the scene appeared to do a face-heel turn and set loose Rammstein.
I consider this song one of the better examples of that ever-evolving scene. A middle gound if you will. At a time when NuMetal had yet to become the next big thing (as far as Europe is concerned, that is), this style was still kinda innovative since it was vastly different from most other rap-rock acts of the time.
Now, the lead lady, Sandra Nasic, obviously had quite a nose but I still deemed her quite sexy back then.

I think it's worth pointing out that the girl interviewing her in that video, Charlotte Roche, has since went on to become a best-selling author of rather controversial fame.
Among others, she wrote the novel that this film was based on:

Try the insane asylum. As far as I know, D'Arcy went bonkers soon after getting booted from SP.
By the way, she also was hot as fuck in the "Ava Adore" video:

And here's also your reminder that in the Adore-booklet you can see her nips.

>D'Arcy went bonkers soon after getting booted from SP
Yeah, she had most definitely developed a habit already when still playing with Smashing Pumpkins (which becomes apparent in interviews where she would sometimes just seem really "out of it") but I think that it worsened considerably once Corgan fired her.

It's funny. When I was 15/16 and this song came out, me and my mates trashed it as "teeny bopper" stuff. But listening to it now, it's actually a really good song with great lyrics. Well, who knows what mmmbop means, but the rest of the lyrics are pretty thought provoking. Unfortunately, the kind of slur over them, so it's hard to understand them.

You have so many relationships in this life
Only one or two will last
You go through all the pain and strife
Then you turn your back and they're gone so fast
Oh yeah
And they're gone so fast, yeah
Oh
So hold on the ones who really care
In the end they'll be the only ones there
And when you get old and start losing your hair
Can you tell me who will still care
Can you tell me who will still care?
Oh care

I loved that song and the video. I found it deliciously creepy. Not "scary" by any means, just creepy, in a beautiful manner.

And here's the thing: Once the LA Riots had ceased, the 90s were wayyy more relaxed about that whole thing. There was no need for buzzwords like "racial diversity". It felt like the riots were the "necessary evil", the "big one" that was needed to finally set things straight. Sure, racists would keep on being racists but at some point it felt like it just had all been said and done.
Now were at a point where liberals have become so tense and uptight and conservatives have become so spiteful that no sane person would label themselves as either. There just seems to be no middle-ground.
I myself, a life-long democrat, am at a point where I feel more sympathy towards staunch old-school conservatives like Sen. John McCain than towards miserable bleeing-heart liberals.
That still doesn't make me a conservative, mind you, I'm just rather wary of extreme positions (and what's going on now is the worst imaginable outcome for EVERYONE).

In your country perhaps. It was hardly a thing here.
In the early 90s here it was lots of commercial classic rock type stuff on radio. Then came youth radio that seriously rustled the existing commercial broadcasters because they literally did it for free, operated like edgelord commercial stations but reinvested the profits and took a substantial percentage of the audience from the commercial stations. After a decade the jews won the radio battle but streaming was taking off so they still lost in another way.
In other counties it was pirate radio from the tower block wile others had cross boarder radio and the last of the pirate radio ships in the 90s.
>>1576222
My point was that if this was a metal thread and all the videos were just dudes staring angrily into the camera and sometimes windmilling in sync with the music, I would have accepted the statement that video is secondary. But when the thread is mostly filled with truly great videos, statements like "video is secondary" just makes the poster look stupid.
