You can try Samurize, but if you can't figure out the basics in Rainmeter you may want to drop using it all together. Chances are your resources are "being hogged" because you're skin is refreshing too often while monitoring something like weather, mail, or drive space.

Your font is very small, I would say too small. When you scale up, especially font. It will render better and be more easy read and see. When it comes to your font type, it's overall okay, but not the smoothest font to read for your eyes and you probably will get bored of it after some time, but perhaps not.
About programs. Yes, it's very normal to put it into folder and menues, especially when there are many programs. Many likes it, but the truth is, it's not the fastest way if you have some programs you use all the time, I would recommend to do both, but it's of course up to you.
