Phone Thread #145
Before asking for a wallpaper, reverse image search it. This function is built into 4chan now. Its not hard to do.

Something I whipped up in 5 minutes.
Comments and suggestions would be appreciated.
Home screen, got three screens total. Will post the rest of my config
Creator of >>1867522 here
I just noticed a glaring issue while looking at my own screenshot. It seems there's some kind of interlacing going on with my wallpaper on my phone, but it's only visible after I set it. In other words, the image is flawless in the gallery but when looking at my homescreen the flaws are present. Also, it seems that the image becomes more washed out than in the original in certain parts.
Anyone got ideas or suggestions as to how to fix this?
Pic related is what I'm noticing. Left side is original while right side is what it looks like on my phone.
But I'm doing just that. Still keeps happeing
I haven't riced in a little over a year. You might recognize this design I had before with the Momiji hugging a sword as the background. Something feels different than it used to be though. I can't put my finger on it.
ZUI is kinda a hit or miss for me though
It has options but I hate how limited it is.
yay, my rice finally got featured in the OP!
I changed it up a bit today.
First time trying this stuff, criticism would be greatly appreciated.
Simple, I dig it.
However at the same time it's so simple there's literally nothing to look at, it wouldn't be something I would keep forever if I were you because it looks (no offense) quite boring.
A background with more things going on while still retaining the black/white theme might be better.
The wallpaper clashes with the icons. It looks like there's a phone icon in the middle. Also, I'd personally put a clock somewhere and remove the notification bar.
None of the elements really compliment one another. The clock is simple and minimal but the folder icons are colorful and more complex. The app drawer icon is barely visible. Also, remove the notification bar.
For the love of God move icons away from Onodera's face.
I feel like the shadow on the anime render clashes with everything else because it's the only shadow in the entire rice. But other than that it looks great.
Simple and elegant.
Left: Pretty standard
Center: Pretty standard
Right: The icons don't work well with that wallpaper. Also, I suggest you remove the names of the icons. You know what they are, you don't need the names written below them.
The wallpaper is low-res. The icons don't compliment it. The notification bar is useless. Basically what >>1867549 said.
Not a fan of that render but the animations you made are pretty cool.
This one is really beautiful. The color scheme is perfect.
So, this is my first setup with KLWP so i'm still very new to this.
The first screen is a clock with an RSS feed for showing random HSK1&HSK2 words, weather, and an app launcher (Clover, Memrise, Chrome, music, chatting). Left screen is a calendar with my schedule and right screen is a simple music screen.
Please rate, thanks.
Not mine but I want to know what font it is, could somebody help me ?
First time doing one of these and I'm having some trouble with spacing things out. I've got alot of white and I still can't find an Icon pack that would fit. Any suggestions?
I wish i could make bottom bar transparent or non exist any ideas
I found something a bit more pallets ble and added a few more features. Can I get advice or suggestions?
Here's mine. I really like this setup.
Saw it in the /wg/ thread. Beautiful.
Not really feeling the icon layout.
Simple, but solid setup. I like it.
Looks pretty stock, but it's a really nice setup. Might change the clock to something less standard.
Needs some work. I'd start by hiding the status bar and getting some better icons. Maybe find a version of the pape with no writing.
Not a fan of the bar and it almost feels too minimal. Some people like that but it feels like it needs something. The layout is good though.
This is a nice little KLWP setup. I'd make the icons a little smaller maybe, and make the clock stand out a bit more.
Decent for a first try, but seems like you know what you need to improve on. I'd try for less elements on one screen. One of the retro icon themes like Retrorika or Retro Icons might look good.
Yeah, just get nova or something and you should be able to control that. The layout is pretty good, but that bottom bar is ruining it.
I just redid my rice and want to know what I can improve. I need to recolor the clock and calendar, but I'm not really sure what colors to do. also, I'm somewhat iffy on the color of the banners, just because it may be too light.
At any rate, thoughts or criticisms?
ugh. I can see the icons. I wanted something fresh today anyway.
Hey, does anyone know where I can find the files for these common app drawer images?
I want to make some slight modifications to the one on the right.
Really simple, just wanted a matching layout for my phone and a tablet I got from a friend yesterday.
Too much info crammed into the left, I think, and the shifting fonts makes it hard on the eyes. Also not really a fan of the way the icons are kinda blurry/hazy, but that's just me.
Beautiful. You'll probably get a bunch of replies asking the same thing, but how'd you get an animated gif on the homescreen?
>kpop, interchangeable with jpop
Why don't you tell that to /jp/? Anyways the rules explicitly says
>1. Wallpapers should be distinctly anime or J-pop related. They can be real world pictures, just make sure they're noticeably tied to Japanese culture.
>Checks to see if someone picked up my vector request
>Sees I made OP for the first time in months
>Shed a single tear
I'll rate some shit tomorrow, so post up if you want an OG opinion ;-)
>Also Timma how is the army or air force (or something military related since I forgot)??
One of the various concepts I made with a Jun wallpaper I made. Nevermind the repeated icon, it's just a placeholder.
Thanks for the critique, search probably didn't work since i'm using filters on everything.
The photograph is courtesy of /p/
Do you also want the Rei and Asuka ones ?
Used one of the wallpapers here, give me suggestions
>use the same unfinished christmas rice for a year due to loss of interest
>use finishing it as a reason to pick it up again
>feel underwhelmed at final product
tell me why the pole is shit and what i should do to fix it
dunno if it's the shade or the fact the wallpaper itself is mostly red, but the green icons don't feel like they fit to me
like >>1868626 said, probably should've gone with they same gray as the part the icons are on
also could just be a fuck up while re-sizing, but if the aliasing of that image was intentional, it definitely doesn't fit with the font and icons
First rice,kept it simple
Inspired by a layout I saw. The hamburger is actually a folder for the apps.
ger fag here.
still my summer wallpaper
>Op videos now not images?
It wouldn't be the first time a webm/gif was put into the OP.
That was clearly a joke, no some shitflinging at the OP or the rices put there.
I kinda want to put more stuff in it, but it'll look shit no matter how i put it.
Having tiny phone sucks
Pic related is a discontinued WIP. The middle quadrant was going to be animated and the middle box (the empty one) was going to contain a clock.
Bring the icons up so they're more even spaced between the bottom of the screen and the central box. Consider moving the box a little to ensure the icons are perfectly centered vertically cause if they're not it triggers my autism and hopefully triggers yours.
Consider changing the green icons. Pretty old school design though, if the icons were centered vertically I'd like it.
Avoid #000 or anything too close to it. Your wallpaper is too aliased, even if it's the 'style' it looks bad. Feel free to use reddit, elitism is dumb.
It's alright but the pole is drawn in a noticeably different style to the girl (panty or stocking I can't remember), if you were a better artist you could do better shading and it'd look great :^). It's creative and christmassy, I'll give you that.
Pretty standard fare. Consider adding 1px drop shadows to the shapes to smooth the transition between them.
Looks alright, try removing the shadow at the bottom if you can. The font in the music widget is different to the clock font and that triggers my autism.
Don't use #000 icons with that colour scheme. The transition from icon banner to music banner is very harsh. The widget and clock are also too #000. The art in the background is artifacted and poor quality. Also consider the 1px drop shadow, the fact the shapes overlap may make it not work though.
Icons aren't centered horizontally or vertically.
There's plenty of negative space there for you to fill with icons, as long as your colour them appropriately. The widget looks pretty bad. The font colours are too saturated, the font choice is poor, and the placement within the circle is off-center, it also clashes with the wallpaper. Also, remove the watermark at the bottom.
Those are rather simple animations. If you used one that had a bunch of animated menus and things flying in and out it would start to show. Most webms that get posted area already close to the file size limit. You can't mix 3 of them together and not loose something somewhere.
Well what I'm saying is that if your homescreen doesn't have much function apart from telling you some information it might as well be a lockscreen, and if you bring up your app draw every time you want to open an app it might as well be IOS where all the apps are on the homescreen.
Any combination of calendar, clock, battery, day of the week, rss feed, weather maybe aim for about 5-8 apps. Keep it simple and coherent and avoid the colour #000000
This anon >>1869304 has decent advice but remember that if you genuinely don't use a wide variety of stuff you don't need it cluttering your homescreen. I don't ever look at the clock on my homescreen so most of the time I don't have it there, I never look at any battery widgets I create so I don't bother with them, knowing the day of the week and all that might not be useful for you as it certainly wasn't for me (I can work that shit out in my head).
Don't feel like you need useless information on your homescreen to fill up space and make it functional. That sort of thinking is what ruins rainmeter desktops for most people, for instance.
Thanks, though the homescreen layout was just a shoddy remake of the Buzz Launcher one (http://s.homepackbuzz.com/screenshot_1864223.jpg).
The rice you posted was really good too. It's nice to reminisce on old threads.
I keep using this wallpaper because it is just too good to not use it.
Still a work in progress, going for a super simple look. Does anyone know how to combine the day + date and have them centered together with UCCW?
Another thing I'd like to know is if there's a way to change the bar at the bottom from black to white..
Icons are kinda hard to see, would add a low opacity white overlay behind the box so the icons stand out a bit more. The text shadow behind the text and not anything else is kind of jarring. But otherwise, really nice.
Random icon placement is random. Pic is great though, and liking the clock font, as well as the colors.
Spent about 2 hours trying that before and it ended up looking like shit.
I'm going to keep looking, but based on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45015254&postcount=578 what I'm trying to do used to be possible.
I added a background, it does look better now. Thanks!
Does anyone have this background? Searching didn't really turn up anything.
Also, here's my set up from my old phone.
There were plenty when I looked, so if this size doesn't work you should be able to find a better one.
Maybe I'm missing something extremely obvious, but the problem I was having with the overlay was when it came to actually putting the orange/yellow font in, it wouldn't mesh whatsoever. Pic is what I'm trying to use.
You just need an image of a nixie tube with no numbers lit up then make the part where the numbers are semi transparent so you keep the texture of the mesh and stuff then put the numbers underneath then a dark background under that.
One problem you might have to work out will be the orange glow on numbers that aren't lit up, say if you had 4 spaces but only displayed 1:05, although you could just leave the glow on all of them and display it as 01:05
Not my feelings or rice. I just enjoy this being one of the few boards where i don't have to rake through 40 comments of shit before reaching any remotely productive or contributing comments.
Redone. Went with bright colors
- Got from anon
>Dodol locker - Lock Screen
>HTC Sense home launcher
>ViperOne Tweaks for coloring status bar (Root)
Should i redo the color of staus bar notifications?
Also does anyone have any better lockscreen launchers? Dodol is simple and clean but id like to quick acess apps while maintaining how clean it looks with Dodol
Made it transparent but I'm not sure I like where the back button overlaps the banner.
Yeah, that's kinda what I said.
Roger, good luck.
4/10, icons don't really match at all and the picasa (?) one is completely indistinguishable from the camera lens (not sure if that's intentional or not but it's kinda jarring considering the circular layout that suddenly seems to drop off there). Clock is also kind of an unbalanced mess, and the font could use improvement.
Pretty basic not sure that the clock is very readable (is that hh:mm:ss? It's hard to tell) which is kinda bad design in and of itself. Liking the general idea, just needs some refinement. Battery is also a bit out of place.
App drawer completely out of place, icon placement is kinda shit (covers Jun's hair), icon labels are kinda unnecessary. Poor usage of layout.
>search icon covering girl's face
Pic used for app drawer bg also doesn't match anything at all.
Center your stuff horizontally and vertically, man. Also the progress bars could use some work, it's not at all clear what they're for. That grey is also completely out of nowhere, would try to use the black/dark grey and white theme you have going on up top. Nice wall though.
Is this salvageable or should I just give up?
Obligatory "first ricing" post. BG was from >>1869528 and ran through waifu2x. I don't think there's rooting available on my system yet, so that kinda kills a bit of it. Would've posted sooner, but 4chan decided to die yesterday. Any suggestions on how to make a folder not look like shit?
Any suggestions on what to do with the top space?
Not him/her but you could always start with looking into things like Zooper and KLWP. You will also realize that a lot of ricing involves photoshopping shapes on a wall rather than creating them on the cell phone so you'll probably want a program for that too. Find a icon pack that's not total shit (etc looks like a 5 yrs old hipster drawings of coffee mugs and chrome icons) and you will probably end up with something we can critique on.
You get those results by working towards them, gradually learn things step by step.
Look at things other people have created and try to mimic those step by step on your own, once you run into more complex things, ask questions that you will understand the answers to.
A good start is getting an app for making widgets (Zooper etc) and playing around with that until you feel you have a couple of components that look good together. Then find a wallpaper that matches and voila, we have something we can critique on and you hopefully learned SOMETHING along the process.
Is it so hard to read the sticky? Seriously, it's there for a reason. Click on the first link. Read. Click on the second. Read. Repeat until finished. Why the fuck do you expect everyone to do this for you? We're not your mom, stop expecting us to tie your shoes and wipe your ass.
here's a little something i whipped up
those orange bars below the clock represent battery life by the way
Fix those apps, they look very messy right not and not very good without a clear distinction of where they should be. Everything looks kinda squished together ATM with the smiley taking up a lot of space that could be used For something more productive (or allow better formatting for other things). Consider adding a drop shadow or something to make that image look less rough on your drawer.
The font is pretty appropriate but ALWAYS have a matching font, that Å should be removed if your font pack doesn't cover it.
Altogether it's definitely salvageable and you have a pretty good image plus color choice (consider making it a bit darker red), I don't like numeral ratings as they can be arbitrary, but i think you should have a go at my suggestions and I you will probably notice the differences.
The image is pretty good (altough it is pretty badly cut out at the plate) but mostly everything else about that rice is pretty confusingly put together.
Regarding colors 1. I would consider a color set matching with her dress since that is the most dominant color 2. Remove the orange, it doesn't fit with the remaining rice in any way 3. Choose preferably one color as the "UI" color (drawers, clock etc), right now you have black, white and orange.
I would also consider editing the banner to include the icons and drawer on the lower right side so it doesn't feel cut out from the rest of the rice.
You should also seriously rethink that font, I made the mistake of thinking that font matched with everything before and it really doesn't work with anything that's not low poly or pixel art.
Overall you show that you know some tinkering skill but you should make a serious effort into making a more cohesive design as right now it feels very confusingly put together.
Same poster as >>1870706 btw
The layout is good, you need better colors.
I don't like the folder. The clock is interesting, get an icon theme 6/10
There is a lot going on already. I'd suggest to eliminate things to make it better. Just the essentials 7/10
Do you use your phone with your left hand? 8/10
There is too much things in very little space 6/10
I don't like folders, clock and date are good 8/10
Does anyone have the full size of this wallpaper?
I did a reverse image search all I could find is the name of the character. Makoto Kikuchi.
Not the anon that posted the rice but here you go
I'm a basic bitch. What should I add?
Too lazy to make a new ss
Thinking about a making a new layout already
I really hate using the bitmap option in the fx menu. They're always blurry as shit.
I threw this together a month ago, and I'd like to get some ideas and comments or critique on it
Novalauncher on the homescreen, icons and a widget. Haven't touched much else yet.
pls help family
First attempt at ricing, any suggestions?
What should I put in this big blank spot guys? I can't think/know of anything practical. Thanks
Why bother with the second screen when all it does is display information in an uglier way? Also I think that in the icons are too small in the app drawer. First screen is pretty good though.
Hello, guys. Please reply, what is? How do that?
First time in a while since I changed up my phone. Just went with something simple.
Advise for the good miui. I dug there and found nothing of usable.
And here's another I had made a while back that you might like.
It's better, IMHO the clock should be a matching white and moved to the black area since the red contrasts pretty bad.
If you don't mind telling, what's the app in the most lower left corner of your drawer for ?
Moving the clock to the black area and changing its colour for white made it look bad and clustered.
And for the app maybe you meant right, it's Touhou
Not the same guy but i found these
First time posting. Should I change anything other than the stock clock?
Yeah sorry i must have missed those posts totally, here are the ones i used.
Damn this is slick. If anything I'd make the animations a little quicker, and center align the music. Otherwise, fantastic.
Really nice, but the way the music player box connects to the top kinda throws it off I think (given the larger margin-bottom the bottom box has). Colors are great though, and the box with the weather and date are well done (I'd just add an even margin all around, rather then just a left or right one).
I think I'm done like ACTUALLY ricing. I've gone stock Android, Nexus 6P, no rooting or anything. I'm not gonna lie, having a phone that just werks is pretty sweet. That basically transfers to ricing as well, I think I'm going to just make wallpapers now.
On a side note, do you guys know how hard it is to find Yotsugi wallpapers/vectors/renders? It took me forever to find anything.
I'm at that point, too. I used spend hours upon hours ricing my phone and desktop. I recently got a LG G4, but I think I'll just slap Nova Launcher on it, change the icons, root for AdAway and Xposed then call it a day.
Great taste in wall, that music widget is pretty shite though and the clock is too tiny in my opinion. Icons also should be vertically aligned (and I'd personally stay away from using circles in that kinda setup, but that's just me).
Honestly looks nice for what I'm assuming is basically stock, though I'd at least switch out the icons.
They both work in their own ways, would dim the background if you're using a non-solid one though so the icons are more visible.
I usually only have the doc icons. But it gets frustrating trying to find them when I'm driving lol
I don't have that exact wallpaper, but I have a slightly modified one. Must have gotten lost when my phone broke.
