It really shouldn't surprise anyone there are still tons of AG/May, etc. fans around. Its the most watched series after the OS.

It's because this season has little to no fucking substance besides character interactions leading to people either generalizing all of them or radicalizing them to fit their own version of the show in their head.

Usually this can be easily avoided by making characterizations more solid, grounded and generally independent from the others but as we've seen since episode 3 this season is going to hit BW levels of bad if it hasn't already due to the utter lack of underlying plot elements and a cohesive goal and story to push the plot forward.

By the time S/M anime ends I can guarantee you it'll only be remembered for "waifu bait" "harems" and shipping wars because that'll probably be the only driving substance behind anything.

It's not even the fact that I hate the setting or plot of this show itself. It's more so that the team that's writing and making it is sub-par at fucking best and absolutely unwatchable at worst. If they were to actually hire a professional level writer who has experience writing slice-of-life animes then these problems would probably have already been solved.

That actually didn't stop XY/XYZ from regaining a following from western viewers after LateBF/DP/BW turned most away.
The thing is there isn't much interest from western viewers over SM since it's too different, I think the Disney stunt might have been to try and get people to pay attention despite people who watch the movie and then the SM show on Disney will probably be bummed out from going from action to bootleg Sonic Boom/Looney Tunes Show.
If all else fails they will push SM to a dead spot and air Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn non stop, I mean they aired Destiny Deoxys a few weeks back already.
