I've never really had a blank-document problem. That the first thing I do when opening a new file is to add the title line (New Story, Chapter 1: Something that indicates the theme.) may be useful since it imparts a little momentum, but I also don't open a new document and then try to think about what I should write.

I also have plenty of other things to waste nonproductive time on, an empty text file isn't as attractive as my alternatives.

What does frustrate me is when I get blocked, by not finding the right lead to what happens next. I've been blocked for months (E/V was a real jerk about that, my next is acting likewise.) and that keeps me from sitting down and opening the current file in the first place.

Thank $DEITY I took measures long ago to avoid that. I never start with a blank document, I either copy-paste the outline / minutes from a previous chapter or I start with the release file for another story and give it a reread for the kicks, then start overwriting content from the top. Once I'm about a full page in, I blank the rest of the old content.

Rarely, and I'm unlikely to go back unless I find I need to establish something in the omitted moment. And it isn't so much skipping to the next scene and cutting the current thread and rejoining with a new arc. LL has a few large time skips that indicate where something like this happened.

Just start writing no matter how much I hate it, then after reading it over and seeing how garbage I am, I glance at the noose in the corner of my room, and come up with ideas on how to make the garbage better. I find it easier to write when I'm fixing something, adding better sections and deleting unfixable ones. I'd say that PMD is in some ways inherently easier to write a good story for than other universes simply because you can make characters as "human like" as you want without it seeming too contrary to the canon- Pokemon can speak English, for instance, or live in houses or go shopping. Having to deal with the limitations of the standard games is in some ways more challenging to write a creative or emotionally impactful story for, but when it works, I feel like those limitations end up making the stories even better than if they were just PMD based.

In a technical sense, most things are fine. I just want to make my special doggo adventure something that's actually worthwhile to sit through, both in creation and in reading. Nothing yet has been as gratifying as that Suicune smut I made. Usually if I'm writing about my fictional world I don't play music so I can devote my energy into figuring out things. Fanfic definitely lends itself to music better for me, since if nothing else I can just play music from the games/whatever.

I find that music helps sometimes, but only so long as it doesn't have lyrics. So I often put on classical or video game music while I write.

In the latter case, I tend to choose music that fits what I'm writing: if I write a scene in a forest, I'll look for songs that play in forested areas; for fight scenes I'll play combat music from video games (especially battle music from Pokemon); and so on. It helps me get in the mood, so to speak, for writing the particular kind of scene.

Funny you should mention such a thing. Lately, I've been tossing around a similar idea, with one character who obtains some minor powers related to Pokemon, except the reason for it is more complex than simply spending time with that certain type. Still, I've got the same problem of it sounding "snowflakey" and too arbitrary without first explaining the backstory for the powers, which I'm unsure if I'll ever bother to do.

However, special powers actually do have some precedence in canon, so perhaps they're not too snowflakey. An example from the games is N, who can communicate with Pokemon. Other examples include the Psychic trainer class, who can apparently levitate their Poke Balls, and Riley from Gen IV, who can use Aura just like a Lucario.

And from the Adventures manga, we've got Yellow. Though I've never read the manga, she apparently has the abilities to heal her Pokemon, boost their levels at will, move objects with her mind, and read other people's minds. So it's not too uncommon, all things considered, for a Pokemon character to have special powers and abilities.

Actually, I'm pretty sure GF has had an infiltrator in an RP I am in at least for the last 5 years. There's a lot of stuff that we did there that "conveniently" became canon right after or canon stuff that appeared looked pretty much exactly like a thing we had recently done, with the serial numbers filed of. Even stuff like the PWT.

For me it's a kind of "tale for the grandchildren" thing, actually.

It seems most Mega entries have a theme; "This process is unnatural and harmful". Which honestly makes a lot of sense with SPMD's interpretation (they go berserk after)

Mega Evolution horribly warps and mutates the monsters it effects, twisting them into soulless monsters that exist only to kill. The Trainer-Pokemon bond only matters because otherwise the Pokemon would just kill the trainer. It's not really "negative consequences" as much as it's the equivalent of pumping them full of heroin and PCP while fusing swords onto their arms with a blowtorch.

Not really any confidential. It's just not exactly documented, but something that has mostly come up as a realization during conversations.

I'd have to ask the relevant community to compile some examples, but from what I recall for X/Y we predicted nearly a year in advance where various Pokémon would like and not like being pet, as well as Inverse battles. Other examples include Golett/Golurk lore, some stuff about Keldeo that I can't recall ATM, the whole thing about Zygarde being able to split into cells, and apparently the whole Eevee Limit Break for G7.

I think it might be more accurate to say that Mega Evolution isn't like welding swords to their arms, but rather more like twisting and warping their arms into the shape of swords. Which isn't really any better than the blowtorch, to be honest.

what a quinky-dink, when I was planning my PMD fic, I originally had a Gardevoir character who more or less acted as a guardian angel. She was permanently stuck in her Mega state because Xerneas replaced her dying heart with her mega stone, also causing her to become immortal. But when she got it yanked out of her chest by a Hoopa, she just withers way into dust.
