Going to play Nocturne tomorrow as my first SMT. Is there anything I should know going in? I know there's a true ending that apparently requires I hold onto my pixie or whatever I make from it, but would you say I should care about that ending on a first playthrough?

If you want to fuq pixie you have to keep the demons that you fused her into through out the game, do not sacrifice her or the demon into another demon fusion. The only thing you need to know is use buffs retard, and if you want to get the true demon end you need to finish the kalpa's before you enter the final dungeon.

Incorrect. You get the "true" ending by completing the Fifth Kalpa, a series of bonus dungeons you can do while you play, before entering the final dungeon. If you get far enough in the bonus dungeon then your Pixie will return with fantastic stats, which you can then use to open doors that require you to have a demon with said fantastic stats. Only requirement for that to happen is that you never dismiss your first demon in your list, which you likely wouldn't do anyway.

No, but be warned that the True ending overrides any other and isn't particularly hard to get put in.

As for general advice, a strength build is recommended. More so if going for the true ending, where you get a skill that heavily favors strength, but it is still generally better than magic even without said skill. Buffs and debuffs are important, as is exploiting elemental strengths and weaknesses. And you should do the Kalpas, barring the 5th, even if you aren't doing the true ending. Go through them as soon as they open up, they're great sources of experience, money(macca) and unique demons.

Yeah, but are there certain strategies that worked in Persona but don't in SMT, or vice versa? I used debuffs all the time in Persona, but never used buffs until I could do party-wide buffs. I also never bothered with status effects because 90% of the enemies were immune to 90% of the effects and you couldn't figure out which were weak to which.
