Melee is easy mode, though. Bait his arm swings, back up, wait for him to enter his refractory period LOL XD and smack away. If he does his lunge, just wait for him to reach the apogee of his jump and roll to the side, and resume smacking. He's one of the easiest boss fights in the game, and the only reason you get so much co-op with him is because no one wants to go through the fucking Shrine of Amana again.

How do I get good? I win more than half of my PvPs but I just don't know how to improve aside from slowly leveling up...

I tried various builds, from my own creations to helixodon (for which my level is still a bit too low) but I still haven't found a build that works against everything decently well.


In DaS1 everything was much simpler. Just get that sweet poise and then go for BS fishing and you could already win 90% of all PvPs just that simple.

b team rushed the game, so they had so take out a lot of shit, including the lighting right before release likely because some defective asset fucked up the fps and they couldn't be bothered/didn't have the time to find and fix it. That's probably why DkS2 on the ps3 runs on 30 fps even with the graphics downgrades.

Always remember that your dodges usually happen 1 second later in the other player's screen.

Always remember when you are using heavy weapons to not use the analog stick for targeting, just let it auto target.

Always remember to have a varied setup, either have a bow or spells as backup, carry poison moss, maybe a shield in the early phases of PvP but don't rely on it much due to guardbreak.

Always try to practice your weakpoints, either against random players or just ask someone on /dsg/, even though people here just seem to whine a lot, some of us are kind hearted.

Always be aware of the phantom range of certain weapons, twinblades, katanas and thrusting attacks are the biggest offenders, but there's no point in complaining, just try and do better next time.

Always remember that Havel's, buffs are a thing, find out the weakness in those kind of things. For example, buffs have a limited duration.

When does the kill count increase by one after killing a host as a blue/red phantom? When the game autosaves immediately afterwards or after the loading screen that takes you to your own world again?

>You are not invincible for x amount of milliseconds, you are invincible for x amount of frames. Considering that not everything in game works on frames, such as the speed of a boss' attack, this could mean that you potentially have half as many frames of invincibility whilst running the game at 60 FPS, instead of the Console versions locked 30FPS. This is a fairly common Japanese programming technique, as Japanese game developers do not have much experience in developing PC games where this becomes an issue. Further testing needs to be done to compare the PC and Console versions, to see if the invincibility duration is longer on Consoles. This issue has already been confirmed for weapon durability, as players running the PC version at 60 FPS break their weapons twice as fast, as the weapon spends twice as many frames inside of the enemy. (This notice has been added on May 9th 2014)

I just invested what I needed for powerstancing them and made 'em lightning, seeing as the spiked dickstick is like the EXCELLENT CHOICE weapon in the sense that infusing it provides an increase in physical damage as well as bleed, all before even adding the elemental type to it. So with that and eventually sacred oath and blades +2, I'm hoping it'll do good enough as a quasi-quality build.

Always remember that rolling can be used as an offense move, but don't forget that the rolling attack is one of the most predictable and as such parriable attacks.

Always remember that honor only goes so far, say you let an opponent buff 3 times, that's your own fault. If they buff, you either punish or buff.
Of course duels are a different thing, but as a rule of thumb, weapon buffs are a-ok, the rest, they gotta work for it.

Always remember that terrain can be an advantageous thing, say you are fight a guy who swings a greatsword, find a wall for his swings to hit and punish.

Always remember, if they heal, you heal or you punish.

Always remember that baiting is a powerful tool, some movesets are incredible for that, so learn your weaponry.

Always remember that preparation can be your greatest asset, for example, carrying the right shield against the right opponent is a given.

Always remember that jumping attacks on most weapons have enormous tracking, don't underestime a great weapon jump attack, it has the power and reach to devastate.

Always remember that in higher tiers of PvP there will be Havel's and Smelters with the same weapons alot, but there will also be fantastic players that use seemingly mundane (no pun intended) weapons to great use, never underestimate anyone.

Always remember that complaining for the sake of complaining brings nothing benefitial, just try and be better next time, sometimes you will be utterly beaten, just try again.

No. The majority of PvP in DS2, including all of below 2.5m SM, is inredibly easy and almost impossible to lose. I just don't know how to consistently beat someone in full havel+ironclad with 5 buffs when even my ripostes do less than 500 damage. Winning more than half is not good enough for me. Only because of Soul Memory, which forces you to level up and therefore does not punish you as it would if matchmaking were based on SL. If it were back to Soul Level, plenty of dream-builds could be broken because of the desire to not-use Agility.
