I'm enjoying Commander difficulty, but admittedly even though I'm only up to mid May, its feeling a little easy.
Although, I've done some save scumming here and there though (mostly just sudden full cover crit deaths that booty bothered me) so maybe I just need to not be as big of a bitch and let it be harder just through that.

I've never done Ironman though, maybe I should start over and turn that on instead of going to Legendary.
I'd worry about unfair shitty bugs ruining the experience though.

As a former relentless savescummer that eventually broke the habit and learned to love the struggle of Impossible/Legend, you really do just have to let everything happen. The more I savescummed, the more that it felt like I wasn't even playing a game, I was just solving a puzzle where you can always just rearrange a piece if it doesn't fit the first time. I got bored fast. Sometimes you'll be surprised how many losses you can take and still power through.
Try the EU Aim Rolls mod if you're getting tired of the crits, XCOM 2's default system makes crits happen more often especially in full cover.

Forgot to mention, it'll also make you a much better play. I used to make so many shitty moves and dashes because I'd go "oh not fair" if I revealed something and savescummed. You'll learn to drop that fast when it's losing you campaigns very early on.

It really depends on group comp and skills your troops have. I went in same level as you, except with ONE plasma rifle, though the guy barely shot it, so it doesn't make that much a difference.

Anyway, as long as your group comp is solid, you can handle most anything it throws at you in there. Final rooms were easy since I have a Ranger with both Chain Shot and Rapid Fire and Mox just keeps giving him actions to pump out the damage. Nothing survives for long.

It's because the Hero classes make them less incentivized to get. You are also building a lot of other things. So while it isn't hard to get, you would be delaying thing you might need. A psi rush in vanilla was possible and while it might be in WotC, it's less viable.

Strange, he should have at least tried to move away. I know when he can't grapple he tends to run out of Line of Sight. Maybe his pathing got bugged out and he thought he couldn't move. I've had units do that, just sit in the open and shoot after being grenaded.

I'd do this. Nothing burns you out quicker than bashing your head against legendary. Get the hang of not savescumming, play a moderately challenging campaign, have the satisfaction of a victory under you belt and familiarity with all the new mechanics before moving on.

Two completely different things. V-sync locks the game to your monitors refresh rate to prevent screen tearing. Framerate Smoothing tries to dynamicly adjust settings to make sure the framerate stays somewhat concistant rather the a jittering mess.

Tags don't work with the SDK unless you manually go and edit a file, most people don't know this because it isn't supposed to work that way, so people put tags on their mod, but the SDK doesn't uh "upload" them i guess unless they are manually added.

And a lot of people that know don't go through the effort of adding tags because it takes effort. In other words, tags are useless and there are thousands of tagless mods buried in there.

It and Chain shot have the same Aim Malus, so nothing is different. Just the fact that you have the other skill when the other is on cooldown. My Ranger has both as well, it's pretty nice.

I would actually have been more pleased if they had buffed Demolition, since using grenades for cover destruction can be a bad idea when it comes to the Lost.

Definitely wanted all my hero classes, specialist was needed for heals, sharpshooter is my highest ranking, and grenadier for Chosen's blast weakness. With the weapon mods on the Skirmisher's bullpup (along with bond extra action), she could outdo my ranking ranger.

I tried to expand as soon as I could since that means extra supplies. While that was always a good thing in vanilla, it's actually a little bad now, since it means you might 'activate' a new chosen and they can start messing with you and gathering information.

So I would say just do it once you feel comfortable with it. Resistance orders can take care of Avatar Progress, so almost no reason to try to B-line for facilities. Only reason to expand and find new chosen is so that you can start hunting them, which might net you a free promotion, which is a huge power increase.

Not yet, aside from Fair Lost Targeting that's all we've got I think. I've been a bit disappointed with the Lost so far, their AI seems to be all over the place. I love a three-way battle so much but there's almost no way to make any coherent strategy with the Lost getting involved. I've had swarms spawn right behind the group of ADVENT I'm fighting but they often just run through and go straight for my guys most of the time.

I just want to be able to pull my guys back and let them tear each other apart without about half of their guys breaking off and coming after my guys who are further away and on full health. Would make more sense for them to swarm the nearest unit or the one with the lowest HP

Hopefully there's an overhaul for their behaviour soon. I'd love to do it myself but I'm a brainlet

Not him but I never got into LW2 myself. It had a lot of cool ideas it brought to the table like dedicated squads and infiltration, but it suffered the same as LW1 from the idea that the way to raise difficulty was to shove more numbers in there. It felt more bloated and tedious than tactical.

The squad system would be real nice as a solo mod though.

Pretty much. It only takes a single action to fire his rifle, if you have been paying attention to him moving and shooting. This means you can move, overwatch, auto hunker, get the aim bonus. Now throw steady hands on top of that and if you don't move and just overwatch, you have a +30 aim, if you have been throwing your aim bonuses from Covert Ops on your sniper, you will never miss with him.

Check the modpage for the T2 XCOM EU/EW imports, I had the same problem.

Mod author had the great idea of using the new torso-gear option introduced by WoTC on normal soldiers. And it is a pretty cool idea because you can get some neat pairings of the base torso + gear.

However it fucking breaks anyone who was wearing it back when it was all just torso options instead. There's a fix for it in the comments/ mod description that will let you unfuck your soldiers.

Tested it on a dead spectral army soldier and it worked, reloaded to get a better screenshot without my dead sacrificial templar in it and all 3 soldiers of it and it didn't work when all 3 were dead and he was out of Stasis.

The "alien base assault from their gate" sounds like the final mission. In XCOM 2, the Avenger gets shot down by a UFO and a defense mission starts, but that's it.

If you got the chosen sniper rifle then you really cant go wrong with Reaper spotter and a sniper.

You got commander for the psi department, a heavy for shreds and a ranger/templar for melee rush. I prefer ranger lategame tho, templar seems to be best in early/mid game.

A medic if shit goes crazy and the last spot is kinda up to you. I took skirmisher because he got some neat tools lategame and, well, he is badass

I play on grim horizon so it can get pretty specific:

>First building slot: GTS, focus on getting one and only one soldier all the kills so you can get an early sergeant for Squad Size +1
>First engineer does an excavation, build Resistance Ring after
>If there's a breakthrough for excavation, dig up some alloys

>First tech is Modular Weapons
>Second is Magnetic weapons, but stop it once Resistance Communications is available
>Start spamming region contacts
>Finish mag weapons, if got alloys from an excavation, make mag rifles for your specialists/rookies/rangers, or pistols if you have lots of snipers

After that generally do whatever, early game is too important. Training center isn't worth it early due to no bonds or AP. Infirmary is very good if you have a flexible/spare engineer.

The answer to this is obvious: The Commander knows. He saw it all in his time in the suit in that tank plugged into the ADVENT matrix.

And he knows he can beat it. He's better than the Elders. He's better than the Chosen. He's better than their commanders and their officers and anyone humanity has to offer. He knows what is coming, but unlike the Elders, he knows that HE is the one who should be in control when it happens. He hasn't even bothered telling his subordinates because they're all idiots. They'll obey him no matter what, because he's the only person capable of doing the job they all want him to do.

The inevitable aftermath of the game is that he ends up running the world. And then, whenever Space Cthulhu shows up, it will be facing him. Not some incompetent distant Elders, not the Warlock, not the Assassin. Him. And a squadron of five Colonels.

And that is all that will be necessary.

Gonna finish off this campaign. Fun, but once the chosen are down it's basically vanilla XCOM2 except you're OP as shit. That Ranger there? Maxed out move speed due to missions, alongside Reaper AND Serial. Shit is bananas. Her squadmate is basically just brought along because those two extra teamwork actions are often worth two more soldiers on their own.

Thats nothing, i had a Psionic Storm mod on a map and it spawned almost exclusively priests.

On the second turn i blew up two pods with eight priests total. All of them went into stasis. The next turn they put the entire squad in stasis.

I had to use four turns to plink down all those priest because of stasis everywhere.

For all we know the commander could've actually won the original war if he hadn't been ratted out by the backstabbing council. Given how you immediately turn a war that was lost 20 years ago around and smash the ethereals and liberate earth in less than a year once you rejoin xcom in 2 the commander probably would've won the original war if he hadn't been sold out.

Fucking advent, lost and chosen. I never made it to a single crate, as soon as I engaged the first enemy, it was non-stop fighting waves of fuckery.

Also: Lost are fucking annoying because my plan B and C have always included explosives.

Honestly with the lost being a thing now a pistol sharpshooter has gone from being a somewhat niche pick for anti robot duty, to being a seriously good idea that you should definitely consider. Even without between the eyes they can do a ridiculously good job of thinning out huge lost swarms thanks to infinite ammo pistols and later on when sectopods and heavy MECs start turning up a lot more often bluescreen rounds turn them into robot slaying gods. And even vs regular stuff they're not bad, just less than optimal

Does anybody know when and when not stasis/sustain procs on Advent Priests? It does not happen all the time and the closest thing to a pattern I've seen is that it seems like if they die of the ayy turn due to overwatch/bladestorm they die. If they get wasted on your turn, up goes the bubble. I havent done any proper tests though, just casual observation whilst playing.

It's not even repeaters, Banish itself is a broken skill, give a reaper an expanded mag (bonus points if you have the +1 on all weapon mods) and it can literally kill anything in one turn.
Using Shredder or Needle is just added fun, and probably unnecessary unless you're going against sectopods/gatekeepers.

Are templars the best class? I feel like if I have my templar on the mission I can take on literally everything.

Bladestorm or reaper really, bladestorm obviously the better of the two but reaper on my templar has been a great help, chunk the pod low and let him mop up while maxing his focus at the same time has excellent synergy with the psi wave thing too, helped finish off loads of group that otherwise would've had a survivor, not to mention how good it can be for mopping up lost in awkward positions where you can't just blast them all with pistol shots.

Eh, Rend damage goes really low when you rend a lot although I will admit Reaper has saved me a ton of time. I got lucky with my Templar roll this play thru got lightning hand, quickfire, fortress and bladestorm.

You can Rend then Parry and as soon as it's the enemy turn you proc bladestorm and rend is a 100% chance to hit so it's reliable damage (won't proc arc wave or generate focus tho) it's good to finishing low hp people also with momentum you can move to another low hp enemy.

So you rolled a guy who can solo lost missions and thats about it? Unfortunate. Reaper/bladestorm templars are probably the single best class in the game for mopping up pods. Yeah they're great. Honestly for the new classes I feel like reapers start off a little weak and little more than walking battle scanners but gradually ramp up into being absolutely insane battlefield control monsters with disgusting clutch ability to oneshot something you REALLY need dead.
Templar start off super strong, fall off in mid game and ramp up to being strong again in end game, mostly off the strength of ionic spark being able to delete entire pods and give back all the focus you used to cast it, unless they get either/both of bladestorm and reaper at which point they become all slaying juggernauts only just behind the reaper in terms of power, albeit in a different area.
Skirmishers are just... pretty good, and never leave that spot through the entire game with their only real strengths being mobility and cover manipulation with the grappling hook, never quite reaching the heights of the other two. If they had slightly higher aim they'd probably feel a whole lot better to me desu

I don't think the warlock is agressive enough with the zombies honestly but he at least has the skills to annoy the fuck out of the player, now all he needs is an attack that does some damage.

The Hunter has attacks that do great damage but he wastes his time trying to snipe you with that easily avoidable skill instead of trying to stay at max range and sniping you with normal shots and/or overwatching to prevent you moving.

Back when the game came out, the Avatar Project would always begin a fresh timer when the bar filled, usually between 20-27 days. This leniency let you constantly let the timer run close to the end and then reset it, essentially making the Project harmless unless you really spiraled of control and couldn't even do a facility. The strategy and tactical layers both being so cheeseable on release is part of the divisive reception towards XCOM 2.

This is my current roster of Soldiers. I am in September.
This is on Commander, with Beta Strike on.

I recently finished a mission with two "ENEMY UNKNOWNS" on the Shadow Chamber radar. It turned out to be the Andromedron and the Sectopod, which managed to kill my Templar and Grenadier due to me not having Bluescreen Protocol.

I'm extremely tempted to restart my campaign right now. I have no chance of getting another Templar or a Skirmisher - The Hunter hasn't shown his face yet, and I've uncovered 7 territories. The other Skirmisher not listed here is Mox, who was left behind on a mission and hasn't shown up since.

I'm short on supplies and can not research Bluescreen Protocol, due to not having the Elerium Cores. The only bright side to this is that I'm managing the Avatar project at 7 pips.

Should I restart, /xcg/?

Lost determine whether they're going to target Advent or XCOM when they spawn, and it's based on a set % chance (by default it's 30% Advent/70% XCOM, to compensate for the fact that Lost swarms will always spawn by Advent so the player doesn't get shit on by a random explosion near the end of their turn, there's a mod that makes it 50/50), enemy proximity to the Lost, and threat level (Lost are more likely to target a whole pod of Archons 10 tiles away than 1 corporal 7 tiles away). If they only just targeted whoever is close, they'd pretty much exclusively be fighting Advent as you'd just run away.

They're way higher risk than Templar but they are snowball incarnate if you take them on the right ops. It's basically LW-style shotgun infantry with a fucking free action grappling hook.

The new training center make snipers to op.
Fanfare cost less than rapid fire to cooldown and serial rapes everything else. And with fanfare, you get to shoot again after that.
Getting implaccable which allow movement after a kill is a huge bonus to setup ayyrape corridor, when paired with a grapple and serial.

Devastate is bullshit because you can't even prepare for it with good positioning. With the Viper and Berserker rulers, you can at least spread your guys out and counter it. It should be a phase that disables ruler reactions but makes the area of effect of each missile much greater to force a battlefield reshuffling. As it stands now, it's just guaranteed damage.
