There is definitely a part where you can get OP armor in a "you wouldn't figure this out without a guide" sort of way, but I think it's not until past the halfway mark
It involves a place where you're able to mix together items to make new ones though, and I believe as soon as you get there you're able to do it

Other than that though, there are a bunch of chests you can't open yet like the one you posted earlier, and you get good shit if you go open all of those as soon as you're able to, but not game-breakingly good or anything

Truth be told I can't think of many parts where I needed advice myself because - fireball charging aside - most of the game is pretty straightforward, so I might need to just boot it up and refresh myself to remember stuff like that

I think you could get save data from somewhere, but transferring data is pretty nice for some scene continuity. If you're worried about voices, there's a PSP iso with voices into it. There's also 5 extra quests, but they're nothing super special.
