Definitely.
A simple motivation like "FOR SCIENCE!" *can* work, but feels a little bland for a game in which (nearly) all the antagonists have reasons for their actions and have 'humanity' in some way.

Now do I think Toriel forever hates Asgore and banishes him from any room she happens to be in? Of course not. The credits show him working at her school, which the extreme interpretations of Toriel would never permit. So it's clear they can be civil in public and work together, and I think that can lead to a cordial relationship, perhaps even friends. I just have trouble seeing romance happen. Although I'd like to, one day when they've worked through their grief, which has pretty much festered for decades and is why they made the decisions that tore them apart.

Welp. I finally did it. I finally beat Sans. But it wasn't enough to merely kill him; I wanted to break his spirit.

So I reset, and watched him note in horror the indescribable nature of my expression. I killed him then, too.

To really-really summarize it, the Charrator part isn't that some of the narration and especially genocide come from Chara, but rather basically every single text that isn't said by another character. The biggest problem most people have with it is that it's a theory that was born of a conclusion and reverse engineered by cramming every line through a Chara filter. Yes, you can eventually push even a square peg through a round hole, but it's still going to be ill-fitting at best.

As for soft Chara, now that's a bit more difficult. There's a very prevalent (and hilarious shit) idea especially on tumblr that people who have suffered in any capacity are both justified in retaliating and cannot be held responsible for being assholes themselves. Soft Chara affirms that Chara was a poor misunderstood character, whose every action was part of pain, suffering, love and self-sacrifice. Individual things like wanting to unleash upon the villagers and such are handwaved away as self-defense, and Asriel's "not a great person" line is either called a complete lie, or merely him gushing over Frisk now. The problem is similar with Charrator, as in most soft Chara interpretations are all or nothing, that's why they're mockingly called dindus.

There's also the fact that Chara often becomes a self-insert, and that soft Charas have an unfortunate tendency to harass artists who don't agree with them, or portray Chara in a negative light, but that merely compounded people's dislike towards the idea.

As far as I've seen, people are fine with the idea that Chara wasn't all evil, it's just when everything gets brushed aside and even thinking that they did anything wrong makes them a bad person, is when they kinda deservedly get angry. Well, reincarnation is again something you'll find mixed opinions of. Someone people believe Chara reincarnates, some people believe Frisk is dead, some think the Underground is purgatory, some thing Undertale is Toby's fangame of the original game in his head, some think there Frisk, Chara and a player, some think there's only Frisk and Chara, and some think there's only Chara and a player. The game is really vague about its meta-elements, almost frustratingly so, but it does provide for a huge amount of interesting directions to take.

I'm of the opinion that Chara was a broken fuck. Asriel said that Chara's reasons for falling down the mountain "weren't nice." Chara made "scary faces" at Asriel. They laughed when Asgore got sick from the pie. Then there's everything we are told by Chara at the END of GENOCIDE. There are kinder reasons for what Asriel said and the videos: Chara belt out a nervous laugh at Asgore getting sick. Who's to say that they knew that buttercup flowers were toxic? The idea of a big scary Satan-looking monster being downed by a few flower petals is absurd and almost funny. God knows that kids make funny faces at each other, and kids are capable of being depressed (which would explain the fall). Plus the stuff we know about Asriel and Chara's trip to the Surface is filtered through rumors turned fairytales. And post-Genocide, we have a child who saw from first person perspective (or third, depending on how you view it) everyone they knew and liked attacking them, trying to kill them, and then the body they were linked to killed in turn. Actively sought out people to kill. And kept killing and killing and killing. They saw what became of Asriel, saw Toriel die laughing like a madwoman, Asgore's empty home, Sans's frantic attempts to stop the body Chara was in/linked-to, and then... Flowey killed Asgore. That body was then trapped in the Underground and it'd take a terrible power of pure Determination to make it all go away.

Exactly. Chara is quite literally your partner for genocide. They give insight into certain events that we didn't really know much about, they pick up the slack for you by breaking the rules to kill certain monsters or initiate a fight, and they thank you for showing them their true purpose upon reaching LV20 and killing everyone.

Just think of it like the Holy Triumvirate. It's just as confusing yet people seem to understand that just fine. There is Frisk, there is Chara, and there is the player.

I still think the best theory is that his experiment allowed him and Sans to monitor different timelines while also attempting to cross over into one or a future where monsterkind had already been freed or to look for a way to free them. Gaster fell into the genocide timeline at the end of everything though, which is why he was shattered across time and space - because he fell into a void that didn't technically exist because the game, the world, had been completely erased.

Hence the darkness, shadows, and negative photon readings.

I have this doujin and I think there's only one more besides this one that actually plays with this idea, besides the Genocide Player anthology that came out a month ago.

Even in this one though, Frisk is their own person, Chara is their own person, and the player only ntervenes when they feel like it, and it's not constant either. There's a kind of Gurren Lagann catharsis when they finally break free. And then Chara kills the player for interfering on their fun..

Bottom line, you can use a player to tell the story, but unless you're really clever, it'll very quickly loop back into the same ideas. Good doujin though, I recommend it.

If it's there and you believe it's there, then you really need to find some explanation how that happens, because "a wizard did it" doesn't cut it here. If you believe that's Chara's soul then yes, the method of how that soul got there in the first place is really damn important.

Okay. We know Asriel returned on the verge of death. We know he turned to dust like monsters usually do. In every event we've seen so far, when someone dies, their soul emerges to shatter, except regular monsters because the soul shatters too quickly. It's likely that Asriel said at least something before he died, otherwise monsters wouldn't have such a detailed idea what might have happened.

So the only possibility for this to work is that Asriel died without Toriel or Asgore being around, and yet someone was in wait, had to know what would happen and yanked the soul, scurrying away without anyone noticing, or later asking about it, once it was powering the True Lab. This is why I use the "Gaster with the burlap sack" joke, because it sounds ridiculous.

That, again, does not change the clear-and-present fact of what we're looking at.

The fact that something is important to know does not neccecitate that it exists in the game files.
Blame Toby for that rather than claiming that everyone with eyes is blind.
The real problem is your discomfort with ambiguity and mystery.

We have no idea who is narrating that story to us or how they know anything. I seem to recall that scene having dupicates of one-of-a-kind monsters, meaning there's something beyond appearances in that scene.
