It was released for Sega Game Gear on March 24, 1995. The game takes place during biblical times, and follows a hero named Mahtel. The Demon King, Graias, has captured the holy city of Jerusalem. The hero, must gather together a party to challenge four dungeons to save the world.
Special is the only entry in the series to feature 3D dungeon exploration mechanics similar to Wizardry and Etrian Odyssey. Outside of spell and item names, as well as some party mechanics, it has very little in common with other titles in the series.

I honestly can't wait for the remake. At best, it will be good, at worst, it will be hilarious. And I still need to finish the neutral route, so it's a good excuse to try again. Chaos route is most fun route for sure though.

I would still recommend new players play the DS version first because it's so perfect, and I'm not sure about the new female character. She seems really unnecessary. But who knows.

Pretty standard for RPGs of the time, gameplay wise, it isn't anything special.
Fusion exists, and so does negotiation. You also get multiple human companions, as well as your demons. Last Bible I has a story, but is pretty sparse, and hard to follow. II fixes that up a bit, and is all around a better game.
Since Last Bible I had an English release, I also recommend using this manual as it explains spells, and has an overworld map that really does help. They're also pretty short, but grindy. Don't be scared to use speed up and autobattling to get grinding out of the way fast.

Fog Breath won't actually be useful for Metatron, considering he uses Dekuna a lot. I've already burnt it, but I still have Sukunda ready to be learnt. War Cry is more useful because he only ever buffs his magic and phys attacks. I just fought Beel, so I still have Drain Force, but I'm replacing it with Tarukaja. Dude I'm sorry but I genuinely just think it's bad. I tried it a few years ago hearing the reputation it held and just wasn't impressed. The battle system is okay but nothing great, dijins really didn't add much I felt. The plot and characters are paper thin which would be fine but the gameplay doesn't make up for this and the game has a metric fuck ton of text to explain the most basic, generic things, also seeing the little emote things from everyone was annoying. The art is technically impressive but I didn't think it was a necessarily good style. The music ranged from good to generic. And finally the dungeon design felt very basic.

I think for it's release time it was a fine game but I just don't see how people would enjoy it today. Even on the gba alone you have things like pokemon, mario and luigi, and mother 3 which are all so much better jrpgs.

I mean...how is that much different from the vast majority of JRPGs? There are thousands of them whose casts literally just go down a list of anime character traits and tick them off, one-by-one.
I'm not really defending Golden Sun here but you can't claim something like that without realizing that it holds true for 90% of JRPGs.

I don't know, a lot of my favorite jrpgs either have pretty good, not super cliche characters or don't focus on the characters so it barely matters.

I think more then anything the text annoyed me. I don't mind the characters and story being basic, that's genuinely fine, the problem is they have so much text for what is such a simple premise and a basic cast.

It still boogles my mind just how some #FE fans swear its really is a crossover. But apparently its not Atlus's fault, and instead NoA. It was NEVER pushed as SMT x FE in Nippon. So yea, fuck NoA and fuck tree house.

But if they would have gone with. you know SMT x FE think of all the new blood SMT could have gotten since FE blow the fuck up. I got into FE and have played all but the NES games because of one trailer and this promo. I dont mean to go an a autistic rant but just like that mass effect 3 copy pasta image, I will never not be angry.
