This game needs way more support heroes. They don't need to be healers or heal, but having heroes that support the team in some way would be refreshing. Or heroes that provide utility to the team, like how Torb can give out Armor Packs. There are so many options for damage dealing heroes; there should be almost as many heroes that can provide subnational utility too.

I'm bad at this game, but the lowest I've been was when I first calibrated to 2700~ during Season 2. I got to Masters and stayed there every season since then.
The majority of my friends who play this game are gold, and playing against other gold players in QP really opened my eyes.
In order, I think the skills gold players sorely lack the most are positioning, helping/sticking with team mates (team-shooting, saving team mates, etc.), mechanics, and aim.
Plus, I think most of them just go on auto-pilot during certain engagements or parts of a match.

Because defense heroes are inherently unfun to play against. Defense heroes are in a decent place right now. They're still usable, they're powerful in niche situations, but not amazing. If they were powerful you would be filled with hate at Mei's point-covering Blizzard launching several times a round, or getting your shit kicked in by Torb's now-buffed turret while he's also shooting you in Molten Core which lasts 12 seconds and makes him nigh unstoppable, or being killed by Junkrat's 120 damage fuck-you mine that kills anything directly in front of him while he bombards you from the air spamming more than Pharah ever could, or pretty much anything about Hanzo, or Bastion's turret which can shred any tank in the blink of an eye.

Defense heroes are purposely underpowered and it's good that they are. If they weren't the game would be cancer.

i already miss old bastion. he had a clear cut identity as an immobile death zone who shreds tanks even from a long distance but struggles to beat anyone outside of his transformed forms, and had clear cut counters to encourage swapping. they brought everthing he had closer together in power level, making his recon more powerful and his deployed forms less powerful, but this only really served to make him completely uninteresting as a character. they could have gone for a different route, like applying the repair-move change while also neutering the time to transform to the really powerful turret form. that way his identity as the immobile death zone for beginners that requires a direct counter would have remained.

Used to be a mccree main until this season, he's just too frustrating to play right now. You're the target of every dive since you're squishy/immobile, Dva can just right click you and prevent you from doing anything, your teammates expect you to deal with the Tracer AND the Genji AND the pharah while you're being dove on by dva/winston, and you just have to try twice as hard a soldier player for half the effectiveness.

I regularly kill Genji or Tracer as McCree in two-three shots, and I have to put myself in actual danger for that to happen. It's a good fight all around. It's not a good fight when you're killed halfway across the map by a GM smurf.

I like to instapick a DPS and then switch to tank after 2-3 people also pick DPS. It inspires confidence and makes me look like a real team player.

On defense, I pretty much just plop down the turret where it has max range (or in sneaky spots like behind the lattice on Hanamura A) and then take potshots at barriers/tanks or right-click at misbehaving monkeys who get too close.
On attack, I pretty much just toss it and forget it. Getting the turret to L2 is nice, but rare, unless we have a competent barrier tank. Really its main purpose is to scare off Pharah and flankers (who basically raped my incompetent silver teams, my turret usually killed Pharah more than our Soldier or McCree) , or at least distract them long enough for the morons on my team to take notice. Putting it on the payload can be good if we have barriers, but it's not always a good choice.
And then KOTH maps are basically alternating attack and defense. I will say Torb is similar to Symmetra in that he's better for holding the point than taking it.

For the vast majority of the player base, the lucio rework was a massive nerf. You could no longer pick him and exist to be effective, you actually have to do stuff. He's more effective now in the hands of skilled players, but for most he's a lot worse.

Yeah, I was doing placements on my alt and similar things happened to me as well. Considering I'm a GM (PS4 btw) it's very frustrating. I also noticed the lack of solid/coherent team comps in my placements, such as 4 or 5 dps, and 1 healer. I usually have to play the role of that one healer because no one else is willing to swap, and sometimes, I get so frustrated that I just swap of healers and we have 0 healers. Still, everyone is so stubborn that they don't switch to healer, and if we lost, usually blame it on me. I then kindly point out why they didn't swap to healer instead which usually shuts them up. I also noticed that it's vastly the team with two healers that wins, not the team with one healer. Sorry for the rant, just wanted to give my thoughts. I feel all of you who have the same struggles in placements.

This, I didn't say anything the first couple weeks, and would defend roadhog players who got asked to switch, but it's pretty clear now he's just a throw character. Probably the worst in the game.

I always dismissed people who labeled him as an ult battery, as if having more health was a a downside, but that's literally all he is now. I see an enemy roadhog and I'm just not afraid of him. I get up in his face and use him for a free pulsebomb/tac visor/deathblossom every time.
