From left to right:

Hessarian and Havard are both kneeling and have a red braid of hair, which is in fact the only red item in the entire painting. You know who else has a red braid? Leliana. And my conclusion here is, that Hessarian was the Left Hand of Andraste, and Havard was her Right Hand.

When you look at this picture, most people would look at Shartan and his orb and try to make sense of the presence of Solas, but right now, I just see a proof that my theory is correct. Andraste, Havard to her right, Hessarian to her left, and no one else.

Now you can perfectly make sense of the Letter to Leliana being Andraste's final words to Hessarian, before Hessarian finished her, and the rose box being empty. It's all part of a long lasting tradition of "setting the Left Hand free". This explains his heel-face-turn towards the Chantry, it was all part of the Maker's Design, and his duty as Left Hand was the most unbearably hard, the ultimate example of how far the Left Hand must go and how much she must be ready to sacrifice to serve the Divine.

And it makes so much more sense now, to realize how tortured Leliana must be.The devs stated she was facing a crisis in her Faith, and how she was the person closest to Corypheus in that respect - we really had no idea how much: Her predecessor had to kill Andraste herself as part of the Left Hand's Burden.

Coincidentally, my last DAI playthrough was as a naive qunari mage who grew fascinated by human society and religion, but constantly felt the pressure of being seen badly by it due to his race and magic. He believed he had been chosen by Andraste after the Conclave, not only to seal the Breach, but to improve the Chantry's views of mages and qunari both, although this was born of his own more selfish wish of being accepted by humans, and his own deep subconscious desire to BE human.

He was enthralled by the Orlesian court intrigue and the Game as key aspects of the human culture that he wanted so much to be a part of, which led him to the honeyed words of Vivienne as someone who in his eyes managed to both be a mage and an accomplished player, respected and admired by many. He also bought into most bullshit human authority figures fed him.
It managed to be somewhat fun even when I was already getting tired of the game.

Like Solas says in Inquisition, the rebellion was something everyone should have expected, a boiling pot too long kept closed, ready to explode at any moment. The one who is really at fault is the Grand Cleric: she knew what Meredith and Orsino were doing, but didn't do shit to try to appease their relationship and improve the life of everyone in Kirkwall. She hid in her chantry and let things fester.

That doesn't mean anything, though. The Chant of Light and the beliefs of the Chantry aren't the beliefs of the developers who are trying to tell you something through hidden hints. The Chantry believes the Maker created the Veil because he is the Creator of all Things in their mind, so it's only natural for Andrastians to ascribe everything to him.

It's stated and implied multiple times in World of Thedas 2 how the Chant of Light actually copied A LOT of stuff from prior folktales, other races' history and legends and turned them into pro-human propaganda. Many of the verses about Andraste can be found in Avvar and other barbarian legends, for example, and the stanzas about Shartan are very similar to the ancient elven tales about Fen'Harel (a trickster warrior rising to kill the tyrants torturing his people).

Drakon and his Orlesian empire changed all that and swept the true influences under the rug, helped by the fact that Andraste never wrote anything and that only many years later her death people sat down to copy all the things her best disciple (Justinia, the first Divine) had written down on her behalf.

WoT2. Her frail, scared little sister was a mage, but their parents always tried to protect her, because they knew she would die in a Circle. One day people spied on them and called the Templars and Meredith's sister was so scared, a demon was lured in by her fear and possessed her, turning her into an abomination that killed their parents.

Meredith got traumatized as fuck and asked the Templars to take her with them.

Orsino watched a dear friend immolate herself inside a closet because she couldn't take living in the Circle anymore. WoT2 states that he isn't a particularly charismatic or talented mage, but he was the only one who had enough courage to candidate himself as Grand Enchanter in the Circle of Kirkwall, which was already a shithole back then.
