Even societies with abysmal literacy, like Russia, get rebels out the ass every game. In Russia's case they frequently ruin them for the entire game because from 1850 onwepards they're constantly undergoing rebellion.

hey hpm. whenever greece conquers a new core it suffers from the assimilation/inability to create new pops bug.
for example when you get thessalia, 2 populous provinces have no greek soldier pops, so every single soldier you recruit ends up being turkish/albanian while all greeks who promote to soldiers end up losing their ethnicity as well.

would you be willing to do something to change this? like adding small (10-100) greek pops of every profession to these areas? or a greece-specific event that does something similar whenever you get such a province. it would definitely make it more playable.

Anyway, people still care about their political rights even with social reforms. And in the game that's already represented: you can stall political reforms by lowering militancy with the social reforms you pass.
The effect, understandably, isn't permanent, and people who cared about political reforms will still do when they get pissed again.

Overall whether you get a rebellion or not should depend on how well your country's doing.

There's no way to put this in the game but it immensely bothers me that a lot of the borders in the game are objectively wrong, like the one between the ottomans and persia. It's really close to correct but not quite, and it caused conflict irl that the game doesn't represent. And with kalat, that weird border of modern pakistan. And Iraq/syria/jordan straight lines.

Not necessarily, since there's eventually revolutions even in the most repressive governments. They do manage to keep things together for a whole, but they also fall apart. How stable they are is entirely discussable.

So should I take any colonies in this war? Belgium (and fucking Sweden and Brazil) joined so I'd get the Belgian Congo + Dutch Indonesia if I decide to take colonies. I could expand the Congo into full Mittelafrikums when I eventually take on the Anglo if I decide to go colonial. I'm continuing from an AARnon save and Germany had taken literally 0 colonies beyond a single island this entire game, so I have had no colonies.

Not really, the Prussian government had to liberalize and pass a lot of social reforms to keep the tiny bit of authorianism they had, and they eventually lost that. Russia was in flames already before WW1 and Francia's regime fell WAY before WW1.

The finnish and italian ones were formed AFTER WW1 (and after the game ended for the finnish one). The ottoman one was formed one year before WW1, so it has no relation to it at all.

Napoleon III had ZERO revolts in the time period, despite him, by the games terms, being an "absolute monarch", in a 75%> literate society, and in the game he too gets multiple revolutions, by virtue of being an absolute monarch.

You don't get access to the scramble for africa CB but you do get a better version of the create protectorate CB when the scramble begins, so it's advised that you start taking over uncivs before the scramble starts, as otherwise the other countries will outpace you. Ideally, you want to grab the east coast of Africa, saving Ethiopia for last, as if they unify you'll only need to have one war instead of like, half a million.
From here, you should be in a good position to take a nice quarter of Africa. If you puppet Algeria and Morocco at the start of the game to keep Spain and France out of north Africa, you might even be able to get half of the continent. (Remember to use the punitive expedition cb on Morocco when you puppet it so that you get a port city from which you can colonize the parts of north africa you don't directly border.)

I don't care about the rebellions, the rebellions are easy as fuck to crush, it's when 1 brigade from every stack revolts (always of a different type) and you have to painstakingly reorganise them every damn year, eventually making it so you can't go to war because you're always having to restructure your armies.

Honestly, if he just made soldiers much less likely to become rebels I wouldn't mind.

I'm tempted to start another tall playthrough now, though I'm not sure what approach I want to take.

1. Super wealthy MR - recently played this, started as Gotland reformed to MR and only played with two provinces, Gotland and Venice. Got a bit bored when Gotland surpassed Constantinople in income four times over.
2. Centralized kingdom - also recently did this as Switzerland, just personally holding every single province in a kingdom. Was thinking of doing it someplace else, like Sicily, Brittany or Flanders.
3. Hyper OPM - Like the Gotland playthrough but focusing on military over economy this time around, playing with a single, or at the most two provinces to see how many troops I could squeeze out of there. Could possibly also play a raiding culture and try to hoard as many powerful artifacts as possible.

your going to want a holding with 6 extra slots, and also have that holding on a trade node if your doing feudal or in a place right before war happens a lot otherwise so you get bonuses from trade being stopped along the silk road

one thing you can do is the "vassal a mercenary" trick by not paying them, they get an invasion cb on a kingdom
if you have two provinces and park them in the other province AND that province is in another de jure kingdom you can then fabricate a claim on it and claim it, and as long as your primary title isnt the mercenary group you can keep it until you become a king (by using the merc groups duchie level title as the second one you need to make a new kingdom) and presto! now your a king and can have as many vassal mercs as you want, thats what i did with iceland with one county in scotland and the rest of the kingdom under de jure norway

so you need a place that allows you to get a duchie with only 1 or 2 provinces, not be catholic, on a major trade route, and have each province be in different de jure kingdoms, and each of them needs 6 holdings

I'm in Stockholm presently. I haven't been raped yet. In fact it's quite nice. I'll be here for a few more days, and away from home for a few weeks more. In a few days I'll have more reliable internet access, but I won't really have anything to post.

It seems that the new CK2 DLC will take a very long time to release, probably longer than it'll take for me to finally get home. It'll likely also receive several updates before HIP is updated for it, and then HIP will receive updates, and so on. I've decided that an AAR (at least a CK2 one) isn't on the table in the immediate future as a consequence, because I want to wait until the last major CK2 changes are implemented. After that I'll also need to run a test game to see if secret societies are at a proper level and decide what I want to do with game rules, so that will take time as well.

The bottom-line is a long delay, probably of months, at which time I might not even be able to do an AAR anymore. I'll see what happens and it's not off the table entirely, but it's also not going to be in August at the least.

There's a province Wales I've had a quick test run in to see if an exploit could potentially work to give you 7 castles in a holding. It's the only province in the world that I've found that holds a single castle with no additional holdings in the province, so I thought I'd try and use the 400g castle event you can get from the stewardship focus to slowly fill it up with castles but it seems it's reluctant to fire for single provinces (fired almost right away when I owned two or more) even though there's no check against it in the requirements.

Hello, HPM. I redrew the provinces so Zeeland actually goes up to the Rhine, rather than the Meuse, and the French provinces are the Meuse, so when Germany blobs into French Comte it doesn't look disgusting.

Of course, in order for Germany to take the full Meuse (including the Belgian part) You would need to add some sort of temporary core mechanic or event that allows them to solely take the provinces required, and not the Wallonian or Flemish states.
