Counting the monster concepts we know about that aren't there, that puts the total number to about 35.
A little more if you count the monsters from the early trailers like Kala and her flying demons.

That's a healthy number for a game where scaleswaps affect gameplay as much as paletteswaps..

There are a few things.

First off, neutral. Skullgirls is a very momentum based game, so try to have a good neutral game. Know the ranges of your shit and the enemies shit, know what you can punish, don't go unga blindly.

Bottom line, don't get hit, and learn when to go in.

Practice. Think of it like you're trying to learn an instrument. Really try to learn everything you can about your character and how to master the controls.

Then you can start to focus on what your opponent is doing.
Every time you get hit, understand what you got hit by and why, and figure out how to avoid that situation next time.
And every time you hit the opponent, learn to make it count. Do the most consistent combo you can land.

As someone who mostly follows /lzg/ for art than competition, I'd kind of like to know, how do you start getting better at fighting games in general? How do you go from glorified button mashing to actually making split second informed decisions? Memorizing combos? The reaction time alone looks alien; there's nothing more foreign to me than watching actual skilled fighting game combatants.

Dark Souls 1 is the closest I've ever come to competitive PvP, and that's because it's so slow and strategic, relatively.

well I know personally I don't aspire to be a highly competitive pro-player, but I love the hobby aspect of fighting games where the more work you put in, the more reward you get out.

when you know you just read a guy's throw attempt or you reversal super'd to turn the match around, it feels great y'know.

and then when someone does the same to you you're like, thinking how to outsmart that guy. it makes you want to improve yourself and find your flaws and knead them out

that's what draws me to fighting games in general. but specifically I like that skullgirls is a game where I don't feel limited in that.
the way the controls feel, and the way I customize my team, and all the skills the characters have, it feels like a big toolbox I've tailored to myself.

and the game is balanced to the point that I can see how these tools are working better for me the more I've practiced
it's crazy how much differently I play my team now, compared to when I started, despite them having mostly the same moves.

so I guess that constant interest is what drew me to slowly getting better at this stuff.

Really, it's my neutral advice over again. Learn what options your characters and the rest have, learn what can get you/them in trouble if they hit/whiff, etc.

Learning what hit leads into what combo is helpful too, in Skullgirls is real easy and in other games it's not as important when you first start out.

I don't think that's a bad way to go about it though. there are some advantages to simply having three characters to play.
and you're more likely to avoid happy birthday situations that way, which might make a difference.

mentally some people also just interpret each fresh health bar as like an extra life, another chance.
so that might be what keeps them motivated to win later in a match, ratios be damned.

Everyone in the EU is probably playing Tekken now. That's like their bread and butter and the game just came out recently. Would be nice if they took a break to bump us though. They still owe us for what they did at CB last year or two ago. Or was it EVO, can't remember. When in comes to platforming exploration, giving Ajna more weapons to interact with the environment could make for an interesting prospect, too.
