It's proprietary and costs money, this causes poor people and autistic people to rage about it, though they will blame it on some other meme about the engine like bloat or the asset store.

100% of the issue shitposters have with Unity is that it's "too easy" and it costs money to remove the splash and be labeled a Unity game (which is now a stigma because reasons).

Godot is likely to replace Unity as it is not proprietary and does not cost money. It doesn't need to be a better engine to do it. It will eventually have the asset store and bloat out of it's ass with asset flippers crawling all over it's asset library and the same people triggered by Unity will praise it.

For any curious benchmarks haven't been done enough for Unity vs Godot.

If you just try the two engines you'll see though that Godot is a little slower all around. But it's still in it's infancy as a tool in the industry so nobody should be offended if we say a newborn engine isn't suddenly the best engine out the gate.

I read C# The Complete Reference when I started learning.
It's pretty long and Schildt's C book is notoriously shit, but it teaches you the fundamentals of OOP, programming concepts and how C# works.

Myself and others have repeatedly explained that it's difficult to locate the character within the level. We said said this can be fixed by adjusting color contrast or add an effect to make the main character more visible. What does he do? Nothing.

Then we realize he's not listening and meme him "Only took me 60 seconds to find Bokube this webm! Getting better!" Now it finally gets through to him. So does he follow our advice? No, he implements zooming which no one suggested because it's a bad solution.

So yeah, eventually he listened after he got memed a dozen times. But he never actually listened to our feedback, only to our shitposting.

Sort of. GDScript is very easy to learn. And the engine is fairly simple. But it holds your hand less than Gamemaker, and the documentation isn't as detailed. So it may take longer to learn than some other newbie engines, but it's not too bad. I was able to get the hang of it, and all I knew before Godot was making simple mods with Lua.

I've been working on a project for a couple of weeks now, it started on Unity with C# but I decided to try UE4 for a change and I've been advancing really fast, mixing blueprints and c++ makes everything way smoother and it's filled with way more tools and helpful functions.

I've made non trivial webapps and stuff like that, but even my most ambitious project only took a year of on and off work. I can't imagine anything taking years of hard work. I thought of hiring someone for assets, put some money aside but realized it is a good chance that it's wasted because of the possibility I couldn't make the game fun enough. Now I'm thinking of alternatives, getting gud on game dev on smaller scale things.

I guess the way is entering game jams randomly and create a system for making games. I recently taken over the family farm so I will have more money for asset people if I think I can go trough to the next phase.

First attempt at implementing velocity and acceleration.

here's two summoner monsters battling it out on the ring

looking at the gif I see that I'll have to make team affiliation more clear (probably colored healthbars or something), but the important thing for now is that monsters can have spells, and will use them in combat

the summoning pentagrams need a few turns to fully materialize, and can be destroyed by either stunning or killing their owner (who'll try to retreat in the meanwhile)

are you using a fixed timestep/fps? if your game run at 30/60fps it won't be fast enough to keep with the mouse, just do the first solution, make an object that will play the role of the mouse, and clamp the mouse to the dead center of the window, this way you don't need deadzones and the mouse will never be fast enough to leave the screen before the frame gets updated.

Number 1 will probably general lack of discipline. I tend to put things off for the last minute, and often to work on other smaller things. Rather than what should get done.
