Yes, it is. A Crystal Chime at 40/40 Int/Fai will do more damage casting a Lightning Spear than a Yorshka's at 50 Faith. But once you hit 60 Faith or 60 Int, anything you do with CSS or Yorshka's will outdamage a Crystal Chime even at 45/45.

This is, of course, assuming all other things equal. Obviously if you're not wearing Sun's First Born with the Crystal Chime it's not going to do as much damage, but the option is there should you want to exercise it.

It involves swapping multiple rings, investing more stats, sacrificing attunement slots and ultimately ending up with less power.
It's about at useful as Refined infusion, losing 10-15% of your damage output for muh diversity.

The drop rates are also much, much lower after you beat the boss. The best way to farm loyce souls are:

>1. Summon a bunch of friends during the boss fight, then aged feather or black crystal out before ivory king dies.
>2. If ivory king is dead, then get someone else to summon you with a white sign soapstone. Instead of lifegems, the charred lloyce knights will drop lloyce souls for you.
>3. If you aren't getting summoned, then burn a bonfire ascetic and repeat step 1.

Do it like that and you'll get 50 within a few hours. With 2 phantoms I was averaging 5-6 lloyce souls per attempt at teh boss.

If you want to just go 30/30 and dark infuse any big weapon, UGSses with thrust attacks have an odd interaction with the charred loyce knights, if you connect with one then they will enter a guard break animation so you can do 2k+ damage from relative safety
Slap on dark/fire/sunlight/CMW for extra damage
Crown of the Iron King
Kill 3 knights, alt tab out for 2 mins, kill 3 knights repeat until you get 50 souls, quit out to main menu every now and then to reset spawn timers.

Basically the idea is to make yourself entire sufficient, the downtime between the waves is long enough so the Iron King Crown procs, giving you back at least 1 cast of every spell you have attuned, meaning you get to heal, repair and buff weapons with no real downside, it's also far less hectic than the pre ivory king fight.

If you want to maximize rapier damage, try infusing with an element and then buffing. Old Leo Ring applies to all damage, Ring of Blades is physical only but will still apply a benefit.

The one downside to that is some enemies will resist that element. It's better to have a backup weapon alongside the rapier, such as a mace or something else.

Depends how hung up he is on "spider" vs "spider-like," since I don't really think Rom looks like a spider, and you can just run past the ones in the nightmare.

Magic is kind of grueling. All elemental infusions suck and you need two ring slots and 60 int or 60 fth to really do much damage.

However, you do get a ton of casts for most spells and you can give up estus flasks in exchange for more casts. Late game spells are also pretty great.

Dark magic doesn't exist anymore, there's just sorceries and miracles some of which scale with the other stat slightly.

I would recommend going pyro, that's the closest thing to hexing in DS2. You go pyro and then later on you get a staff that scales with both int and fth so you can cast some dark sorceries too.

If you go faith, you will end up having few offensive choices (but tones of great healing and regen) for the first half of the game, but mid-end game is full of cool lightning attacks.

Sorcerors get some pretty great offensive spells right away, but they barely do much damage and you have to really build around melee + spells to make them work. Late game sorcerors have decent nuke potential.

Compared to the other games though, casting does require a much more pre-planned build and is much more restrictive in the other things you can do.

I would add to this that the rapier actually works pretty decently with mundane infusion in late game. Chaos rapier also heavily benefits from mundane.

50 dex on a rapier is only +60 damage. Mundane rapier will exceed that when all your stats are at least level 20, and at all stats being equal to 30, will do an additional 25 damage, all while giving you a large amount of other casting options

Completely gutted. Pursuers at least still do good damage, and dark weapon is good if used on the mad kings crucifix, but that's an endgame weapon (found in the final boss room of the second DLC)

You're either going to be at 10 int for magic shield or you're going to be at 60 int fishing for instakills with CSS. If you like whittling away bit by bit, great farron dart is one of the safest pvp spells in the game, but in spite of the fact that the damage is pretty good healers are still going to laugh at you, and hosts have lots of estus.

And as far as pve goes, anything works, some bad spells become good. Though there are lots of way to cheese pve easy peasy with spells, better not to learn too much.

Sounds good, you wont regret it. If you cant decide between DEX and STR just go with both to 40/40. Quality infusion makes weapons scale equally with both. Ultra weapons make PvE easy mode.

When you go back and play INT or FAI you'll realize how boned those classes are until well past midgame. Lightning spear is the most disappointingly useless spell I've ever seen. And you need to 30 co-ops or invasions to get the actually usable version, and even then it's basically only usable in PVP.

What build are you going for? From the looks of it you're either STR or Quality. I'd recommend getting Vigor up to 27 regardless and putting Endurance up to 30 if possible. Your damage stats are already alright for just beating the game if you want but depending on your build I'd either level Dex more or respec it to 16 at most and putting Strength up to 60/66.

Check your graphics settings. The banding is caused by low bit depth, but you can change that. If you're using DSfix that adds a fair amount of blur by default, but that's configurable too.

I assumed that since the Chosen Undead was just a literally who and not a legendary ruler like Yhorm or Aldrich for example, they got destroyed when they linked it and didn't leave any impact on the Soul. Dexterity to 80 or bust.

If you need a ring for stats, use PChain instead, gives you 15 levels instead of 5. You don't need to level Vit either, very few Dex weapons have hyperarmor so you don't really need poise.

Vigor you can keep at 39 (after PChain), and 34 is a decent stopping place for Endurance since, like Vit, you don't need a lot of it since you aren't swinging around an ultra that eats up a third of your stamina bar per swing.

It's more of a sidegrade, and it adds more AR than Dark Blade (95% of Spell Buff instead of 85%). Theoretically melee builds will have less flat defense against Magical damage, since Endurance increases flat defense against Lightning.

And of course, both are good when used on Drakeblood.

Gonna assume this is a serious post. What class did you start as and what equipment are you using? Did you upgrade your weapons at all yet before fighting Gargoyles? Have you tried summoning Solaire?

Drop the Vitality down to 20, you really don't need it (and the K***ht class has way too much of it as it is). 34 is an Endurance breakpoint with FaP+3, you can drop it down slightly for virtually zero ill effect (you'll lose only 2 points of stamina).

That lets you put Vigor up to 39 and get Dex to 80 without the Hunter's Ring (which in turn lets you equip other rings like Obscuring, Silvercat and Slumbering Dragoncrest, all of which make getting off a backstab easier).

As a personal touch I also put Str up to 22, so that if I want to use a Str weapon I can just strap on K***ht's Ring and two-hand. It's a decent option to have, but not wholly necessary.

Are the DS2 DLCs worth playing? I'm wrapping up Ringed City now, and once I'm finished with this the post-vanilla DS2 stuff will be the only Soulsborne content I haven't played yet. I have a copy of Scholar too, just never really got into the moon to play it in between the releases of BB and DS3

Playing Knight. Using the shield you get near the start, upgraded the Broadsword twice since it was still my best weapon at this point. I've mostly been putting points into Vitality and Endurance, with a couple points in Strength.

I like the weight and pace of combat, but I feel like most enemies are sort of just damage sponges. I know people say to "just run by the enemies", but fuck man they're blocking these tiny corridors in a lot of places. So then I have to fight a Baudler(?) in a cramped hallway for the third time, and it's not like he's going to land a hit on me. I'm just gonna block his attack and smack him two or three times while he's staggered, and then I'm gonna repeat that like 5 or 6 or 7 times, and that just ain't fun. It's tedious.

In regards to the gargoyles in particular, I feel like they have some pretty fuckin janky hitboxes on their spears, too. Dunno if that's just me. Half the time I get hit by them (blocking or otherwise), there's like several visible feet between me and where the tip of their spear landed, but I'm taking knockback anyway, And the slopes seem to do some pretty fucking weird shit with their hitboxes, too.

Start from scratch with SotFS instead of doing the DLC on vanilla DaS2. It's a far more pleasant experience than vanilla base game, and you need to meet one of the SotFS-exclusive NPCs to actually get the full game experience..

Sounds like you got a good hold of stats so far so no pointers there, so long as you know not to level resistance you're good. You're weapon's also alright though consider trading it up for a Longsword or similar weapon with more reach and AR later.

Running past enemies you're first playthrough isn't really recommended especially if you don't know where you're going. For your specific complaints on combat though that's just how combat is in Souls, spacing and punishing things appropriately. You can also parry or backstab them or really just run through him after luring him out if you know the path. If the style of combat isn't working for you though it just might not be for you.

Gargoyles do have some weird hitboxes if you're taking the forward part of their spear due to the angle of the arena. For them I recommend just staying close to them and being at their side and back at all times. When the second one spawns try and wait until one of them is doing the fire breath if you can't kill the first until you're swarmed. While one is doing the fire breath lure the other away and hit it while they're separated. It's a good strategy that will help you at a later boss in the game. And if you're really having trouble you can always go human and summon Solaire just before the fight.

I don't know your problem, Friede isn't particularly hard on Faith. Just use Gnawing, Sunlight Spears and Lightning Stake as your casting options, it should be simple even without melee.
