/kfg/ has a critically acclaimed map making history and is responsible for bringing hit maps such as Matt Zaneski's: Nuked, KF-Garage, the map nobody plays any more and KF-Antarctic, the map that actually did generator mechanics properly.

So you give it a skill or passive ability similar to a commandos stalker vision, only the MA skill makes it less likely to be targeted by zeds. Give it a perk that makes it all but invisible to zeds, save for one zed that can make you visible to the rest, the husk and bloat for instance. It might help if I mention that when I think of the MA perk, I think of a true support perk. A perk that debuffs enemies via speed, or applies poisons that slow and damage over time, its main focus isn't to tank zeds like the zerk, but to help the team by controlling the crowds. It's nice to imagine and anyways, it helps dull the pain of disappointment from survivashitter.

Probably going to end up sperging out, but I wanted to sell my idea.

My map idea is a Gloomy/Forlorn War Torn City, ideally designed as a shoutout to the C&C Tiberian Sun Universe. However, I want the selling point to be Randomly Generated and Evolving Environmental Hazards.

The official map setting/explanation can be a city where Horzine had a lab experimenting with alternative energy using crystals, and things went wrong.The area is now a living minefield with volatile crystals growing in every nook and cranny of the city.

Gameplay wise, the crystals would randomly spawn at choke/holdout points around the map, like ammo crates. It rewards careful kiting and moving around the map, but doesn't punish for camping. The purpose of the crystals would be to give players in a pinch an extra edge/fighting chance. About as helpful as that extra nade or magazine you didn't have, but more reliable than that ammo crate you couldn't find but needed.

In regards to the crystals changing over time. Imagine that the crystals are initially green, shooting or hitting them at that stage would cause them to shatter and emit radiation. The effect would be similar to crawler gas, slightly damaging player and zed alike, obscuring vision, BUT also instantly panic all zeds, even raging ones (like nuke).

Leave them alone for awhile, they grow into blue crystals. Shattering these has a 50/50 chance of either EMPing (derage big zeds temporarily or panic) or freezing zeds. Lower chance for self inflicted harm and generally more helpful crowd control wise.

Leave the blue crystals alone long enough, they grow into their final stage, red crystals with the damage of 1 or 2 TNTs plus knockdown or stun. Higher risk of killing yourself, higher reward of quickly dealing with a group of big zeds that are causing a wipe.

The basic idea is to create environmental hazards that act as a mix and match of different perk grenades. Helpful but not too OP.

Only way for M4 to stop getting overlooked is for it to become outright overpowered, or weigh 6, allowing AA12+M4+Boomstick. If it gets lightened to 6, it may be a bit too strong, and need some of the buffs over the years revoked.

I get it, "using crosshair" meme, but i'm far from defending it because of how bad it is, if they were intentionally making it complete ass just so people would get used to the no crosshair style the game had then it looks like its working. Besides KF1 it wasn't needed because everything was sluggish/stiff, weapons felt more "accurate" and imo recoil didn't feel nearly as strong as it does now.

Zed headblocking mechanic is the most anti-gamer meme on the planet. It is an entire game mechanic that specifically counters perks that rely on headshots.
I wouldn't mind it if it was a low percent chance of triggering, but WHENEVER THE ZED TAKES DAMAGE IT WILL BLOCK. And the cooldown for it is something like 2 seconds. You can shoot a gorefiend in the head from midrange, and he will block his head and start sprinting at you. When he gets into range of you, he'll block his head again before spinning. Do Firebug or Demos have to play around this mechanic? Fuck no. I came here to play a headshotting game, not a 'wait for the bloat to stop blocking his head with his cleavers' gay anal tedious minigame.

Hey guys, i stopped playing back in 2015 a few months after Early Access release (when you could spin around scrakes).

What's the typical team composition these days?

Back then it used to be mandatory to have 1 or 2 Supports (to deal with scrakes/FP using AA-12), a commando (to clear trash zeds, saving shotgun ammo for the Supports), a berserker (stun/parry the big guys and the boss) and the medic.

Do you still need a perk like commando to clear trash and save ammo for the team?
Which perks are responsible for dealing with the big guys now?

Bloat has so many resistances already, it takes quite a couple of headshots to decap one, especially if you come from KF1 where Bloats were basically fat clots who were decapitated by nearly anything in one shot. Only the 9mm does a little more damage and switching to it makes no sense in nearly every situation. And on top of that you add a fucking head blocking mechanic? As in, "fuck you for being good at the game and being able to aim at heads, now sit there for a couple of seconds while you can't do anything"? And even more on top of that, the Gorefiend with his insane damage and relatively high spawn rate gets the same treatment?

Fuck Tripwire sometimes.

Medic is a complete necessity in higher difficulties.

Sharp and Demo are the dedicated large zed killers.

Firebug and Commando are the prime trash killers and quite useful if they are responsible and know not to damage the large zeds.

SWAT is pretty much redundant to Commando and nearly useless in every situation. Also, SWAT's ammo is really fucking expensive for a perk that's supposed to be a bullet hose and using 3 weapons instead of 2 like the average perk, so you end up turning into a dosh black hole if you decide to play it.

Support and Gunslinger are a weird middle ground between trash killers and large zed killers. Support does provide ammo and decent firepower with the AA12 which is huge, but Gunslinger, in my opinion, brings nothing to the table that other perks can already do better, although it still fits a role well if no one else wants to do it. Support can deal with a bad situation involving a large zed in a pinch, but can't be expected to be at the front engaging the 3 Fleshpound squad, and also has a high price to his ammo and can't exactly be killing every trash zed that comes around, that's why it's a middle ground.

Berserker is a tank and quite necessary now that Fleshpounds can spawn enraged. Otherwise, tanking is useful nevertheless.

Survivalist is the "Oh shit nigger what are you doing" perk. Kinda like Gunslinger in the weird middle ground part, except Survivalist sucks much worse in every aspect.

Honestly, I started to prefer a skill point system after I realized how dogshit the current system made their perk design.
I'd like if you could allocate points into the things you want your perk to have, satisfying their gimmick of "customizing" your perks without leaving it riddled with design flaws. For example, stat increases could be incremental boosts, with the more unique skills requiring additional point investment.

Support is even better than before now that they have more personal ammo, damage, carry weight, and their resupply grants Armor.
Commando is still a cornerstone of a team comp, can be subbed in with SWAT if you need more big Zed killing power because of their Flashbangs.
Medics are even better in that they can give you buffs with their syringes now, however multiple perks are now capable on cross-perking the medic weapons.
Berserker became optional. While still good the meta mostly shifted towards killing as fast as possible instead of bothering with tanking/stuns.
Demolitionist is a god among men now. While still having the weakness of having trouble with Zeds in their face they can clear groups and one shot any non-big zed with well placed grenades, kill FPs before they even get a chance to rage, and has one of the fastest methods of killing Scrakes once you learn it.
Sharpshooter is a wonderful big Zed killer and the Railgun build grants it the fastest big boy kills in the game. Decent trash clear but can quickly get overwhelmed to ammo count.
Gunslinger is if you give a Sharpshooter sanic speed, more ammo to clear trash, and very respectable big Zed killing if you're a good shot.
Survivalist is complete and UTTER trash. Ignore it completely.

The only argument for giving SWAT a shield is "it would be different." Giving Firebug a hot glue gun or Berserker a giant oversized pencil with a sharp end would also be different.

You have way too much faith in Tripwire if you think they're gonna give you a shield with several gun options, especially handguns which aren't even SWAT's native gun type.
And don't expect them to make it compatible with any weapon because that would "be complicated" somehow plus Tripwire would just argue that since you'd need to use M3 to to block with the shield you can't swap firing modes on all other guns which would be a loss of game function or something so that's not happening.

Like I said, Berserker already has a shield. Even assuming you add new features to it like

At the end of the day it's just a damage reducing utility for a perk that doesn't need to get close to deal damage and would ultimately be using a presumably finite resource in the form of shield durability. Berserker can tank better and even has weapons and a whole side of the perk tree designed for being tanky and blocking.
You can put all the effort in the world into making a shield for SWAT but either you make Berserker's tank role redundant in the process or you just slap on half-assed tank features to a perk not meant for it.

I have strong reasons to believe IJC is the main reason we barely see any new user-made skins in the workshop anymore. Just about fucking ANYTHING IJC makes will get added to the game and since Tripwire will only add a couple of USBs/crates per update, and at least half of them will have IJC items in them, it makes you feel discouraged from even trying to make anything new when Tripwire can just as well ignore it and instead add more IJC items.
I have several highly rated collections in the workshop (at least 63%+ positive ratings) that have been out for well over half a year and they haven't been added yet.
You can also still find the Yin Yang set in ItemDefinitions.txt which suggests they'd be added but they still haven't.

It's not like I like SWAT in its current state either. It's literally just a worse Commando but with a stun grenade. They should never have split Medic into two perks to begin with, especially not when SWATs core features, SMGs and armor, weren't integral parts to Medic in the first place and now on SWAT they aren't even good.
I don't know how they can make SWAT unique but a riot shield wouldn't do much to help it.

Its role is already practically done by the stun grenade.
A 1-2 weight pistol that stuns/knocks down zeds would only really be useful on big zeds but then you'd need to give it only a few rounds to compliment your stun grenade. You could make a 5-6 weight gun that has more rounds in exchange for giving up one of your SMGs though.

I don't know how you'd go about doing that without some kind of perk skill that changes it. The only alternative grenade I could see SWAT getting is a flashbang which blinds zeds and knocks them down near the center of the blast while all others run around wildly. It seems like it would be worse than the stun though.

I know. I don't want SWAT to be SMG-exclusive either, but it's really hard to argue for the case of getting rid of perk-thematic weapons. The only perks that don't or didn't have thematic weapons are Berserker and Medic. Medic because they wanted futuristic junk and because SMGs were being moved to SWAT now, Berserker because they tried turning him into an improvised weapons perk which flopped horribly but he still has the Nailgun and Eviscerator.
Sure, Commando has the Stoner which makes no sense, but it's less of a drastic departure from its gameplay style than it is to give SWAT a shotgun or explosives.
Besides, if you do give him a weapon that isn't the same type, suddenly off-perk bonuses don't really make sense anymore and you can start arguing for everyone getting bonuses with some random weapons for whatever reason. Give SWAT a shotgun and you could argue he should be able to use all of Support's "tactical" shotguns, give him explosives and you could argue he should get a bonus with the M16, etc.

I'd prefer gas honestly. Something that does more damage than the Medic's healing grenade and slows down zeds but is still dangerous to SWAT as well.

Also increase his weapon variety. Give him weapons that have good crowd control effects such as a high capacity handgun with burst or auto capabilities, SMG's with high capacities and RoF (already has 'em) and shotguns that are equipped with unique ammunition that allow him to stagger or knockdown large groups in exchange for reduced raw damage(something like Baton rounds). a high powered rifle with moderate capacity equipped with special stun rounds that'll stun various zeds each shot. Obviously larger zeds would have special mechanics requiring multiple shots in specific spots or somethin'
Hell you could even give him an M32 that's armed with flashbang grenades.
Also his riot grade ammunition talent (the one that slows zeds each shot) should be a standard passive that all of his weapons have by default.

Yeah, but that would require a ton of effort on Tripwire's part. Keep in mind I'm NOT excusing them for being lazy, rather you should expect that they WON'T go through the effort to make a perk more interesting. Remember: laziness is why we have Survivalist to begin with.
The easiest solution would be a complete rework of his skill tree. I dunno what they could (or even CAN) do but that alone could suffice to make SWAT more unique.

Because they started out that way, and other than Berserker which was horribly designed at first and it only makes sense they would make it melee-oriented as it was in KF1, I doubt any perks are going to get a drastic change in their core design like that.
Firebug has different weapons, sure, but they're all fire-themed. SWAT at the moment has little to nothing to do with actual SWAT teams, it's just got big magazines, lots of ammo, and some meh utility skills.
Giving him SWAT-thematic weapons, not just SMGs, would be good but as I said it requires effort on Tripwire's part. Besides unlike a riot shield or LMG there's no huge demand for SWAT to be revamped.

The Medic SMG is only okay offperked on SWAT if you need a bit of extra healing.
The Bullpup is basically a slightly better AR15 which means it's just better than garbage.
C4 is worthless.
The MP5 used to be so bad the MP7 was better than it and other than being slightly better as a third ammodump when you've got the Kriss and P90 it sucks dick.
The Nailgun is a joke and even offperked for Support there are better options.
The Trenchgun is only good when offperked for Support.
The Crossbow is like a nerfgun version of the Railgun that only stuns sometimes.
The 1911s fill the same role as the MP5; inventory filler when you have all your other guns.

Support is the one exception with 2 good onperk tier 2s as well as a good offperk tier 2.

Centerfire is literally a better LAR that happens to stay more true to the KF1 variant oddly enough. It's not bad but I don't see why two versions of the exact same gun need to exist. Actual Lar wouldnt be so bad if the bulletsponge Versus zeds weren't a thing. Crossbow doesn't really have a purpose. It's a single shot weapon with no AOE, unreliable stun, and mediocre damage output.

Pretty much. In a game where everyone is constantly moving around a "stand still and crouch!" bonus is the opposite of what you want.

Both Bullpup and AR are okay.
MP5 is alright now nothing special though.

Nailgun is a better pump shotgun. Trick is to never use the single fire. Used to use it on support even before the crossperk bonuses and it was still better than the tier 1 pump on perk. Trenchgun is actually stupidly good on support too. It's funny how these two are better on it than the perk they were originally intended for.

C4 is king of Fleshpound killer. Toss two of those bad boys on one and set them off and you've got either a dead FP or 90% dead one. Pairs well with RPG for anti Fleshpound setup. More of a utility than actual demo T2 which is the M79.

then have one of the perks modify it into a defensive buff to work it into the fat boy route, and you can still mix and match.

now he is a separate entity from commando that still works alongside him and the other perks.

Actually no. The thing sucks at killing anything that's not a clot. I tried using it yesterday and the thing was good at just making me want to waste as much ammo of it as quickly as possible so I could justify buying the ammo and then switch to an actual SWAT weapon. You may as well save yourself the 450 dosh and buy a Med Pistol if you need healing that bad, because the thing is that useless.

Right side of the skill tree is bad, you can do everything it does with the left and share it with your team. The perk weapons do just fine with trash, bloats and husks without the damage boost and acid rounds are a negative. Sedative doesn't even fucking work without it and still with the 100x poison damage it's hot garbage.

I play normal most of the time, and the only real difference was gorefiends are the stuff of nightmares. 5 of 7 rounds everyone died and I had to kill the last 80 or so zeds. Been playing on Normal for the past hour or so to test out some sufficiently nerfed builds I could use when introducing my sister to the game, and it's disgustingly easy. Without hyperbole, I'm beating the bosses by just standing still and magdumping into their faces while right in front of them, and this is while solely using a trash weapon like the Medic SMG.

If you want a relaxing game just play Hard, because I don't see how anyone beyond level 5 could possibly get any kind of brain stimulation whatsoever out of a mode where you're more likely to kill yourself from boredom than to actually be killed by the enemies.

I wish I could help you with that because my mods never get fucked by updates, but because Tripwire have changed the mod installation methods several times and because texture swaps in particular seem to be tricky to install in the first place I can't really tell you for sure what makes it work on my end.
It sure would be nice if you could simply do like most other simple texture swaps for nearly every other game out there: you click the button on the page and then you're done.

On another bright note for the HUNK build, you can fit an MP5, SG 500/M4 and DEagle in the default weight limit, so you can get the full 4th Survivor loadout plus the MP5 the USS normally carry. And Survivalist's not actually that bad for this sorta build, especially since the classic theme of HUNK missions was dealing with a lotta extra difficulty. :^)

They managed to do that at least. It definitely doesn't feel the same as KF1 though.
KF1 is much slower but more dangerous. When shit gets hairy it's practically over. When a clot and some trash mobs surround you you're dead in seconds.
KF2 is faster but there's less risk. Needing to abandon your spot and run around and kite happens frequently and you can survive just fine. You need to be really incompetent or surrounded by tons of trash to die from it.

I got the game just the other day, and I've been sticking mostly to Normal. I remember from KF1 that leveling the perk was a really important prerequisite to do before going to a higher level, and I'm assuming from the bonuses the perks give that things work more or less the same way.

Granted, I hear that the enemies don't get any extra tankiness from normal, and I don't see anything about perk weapon prices being reduced if your perk is higher, but I'm still trying out all the perks and weapons to learn how they play and what I like, so I think it's reasonable.

It's basically a half-price AA12. It might be nice for early waves, but it has two big problems.

1) the sights are off-center, it will always aim left of your center sight post.

2)Once you get the AA12, why would you keep this? You could use it as a sub-10 WB aa12, and use some other shit (DBS+M4/Nail gun), but that's it.

Got a question, anybody got an idea why literllay every server I play on feels like playing with 200+ ping? My ping doesnt spike, I chose only servers below 100 ping.

Im talking shit like heads exploding after 0.5-1s later when I fire. Have to spam E to close doors/get ammo/enter trader. No problems on other games AFAIK, no packet loss.

Forced to play on my own server, which is fine too since I can autokick and eject retards immediately.

Just curious why the fuck its like this. Did I find the shittiest servers or is what in the actual fuck.

For Commando, I think the key issue is that he already has an entire line-up of trash-cleaning. He doesn't need more of that.

The EBR would be higher damage per shot than even the scar, maybe something Commando could appreciate. Perhaps the M1911 single? It's 50 damage which is what the SCAR used to do anyway.

Zerker is in a weird spot because either you are giving another class a reason to be in melee, or you are giving the zerk something that's harder to tie into smashing things.

Some sort of retrievable throwing weapon for Survivor might be an alright idea, as it would give survivor a "shotgun-esque range option" that isn't shotguns.

Had a level 9 zerk who just couldn't figure out that he wasn't supposed to fuck with husks until after he died several times to them. That's a lot of running around for things like avoiding his HE grenades and picking up ammo. I was also right that you didn't have enough ammo in your inventory for the SMG to kill him, even with so many direct hits and not worrying about missing in a chaotic fight with multiple players, and him running around like a squirrel on cocaine.

Try this with a few other players, especially if they're idiots who wouldn't know good teamwork if it was a fleshpound giving them a surprise prostate exam. The extra distraction spawns and ADD targeting of Hans when you have extra players make some players liabilities.
