It really sucks because Lux's old lore made her a surprisingly interesting and deep character with genuine personal issues and flaws; and a person who was wavering on the edges of insanity because of it. I'm hoping they retain this aspect of her old character in some future lore stuff, but I doubt it.

Yet the new lore is slowly developing her into some kind of Disney-tier Mary Sue princess with plot armor super powers. Her animatic only raised my concerns for this, since the style straight-up resembled Disney's traditional 2D animation.

Now the only thing left that I'm interested in is her new friendship with Galio. That has some great potential to develop into a sort of charming but tragic Iron Giant sort of comradery. IF they pull it off correctly.

Aurelian Soul and Bard are both new mechanics, but they're balanced and don't feel like shit to play against. It's not the fact that his abilities are new that people hate him, it's the fact that he's a shitty designer.

Keeping the MOBA alive and well is still important obviously. But I doubt it's their top priority anymore because similar games end up becoming trends and fading away into obscurity eventually. But then again, many of these games never had the chance to get as big as League to begin with.

Riot has this opportunity at their fingertips; it would be a waste to continue putting all of their focus into their current MOBA and nothing else. They're better off expanding the IP into different directions so that they can reach new audiences. AKA taking the Nintendo-Disney route.

Ultimately, MOBAs are just a current gaming fad.
In the same line how RTS games and MMOs were fads for their time.
Now both of those genres are long-dead, sans a few exceptions like WoW. And everyone knows that WoW is slowly dying. Hell it's been slowly dying for a while now. Blizzard could've done more for it, but it quickly became a case of too little; too late. Their only successful branch-off was Hearth Stone.

They practically WASTED the IP when they could've done so much more with it while while it was still a global gaming phenomenon.

Once the MOBA fad fades away and League finally reaches that tipping point of no return - then what's left for Riot? Nothing - they'll basically have to start from scratch. Or shut down.

So its best if they act within the next 2-4 years, or they'll miss the opportunity.

WoW, isnt really slowly dying, I dont have stats on this only info from friends that play but it has a stable userbase and when theres an expansion the old players come back for a few months then it goes back to normal. Its nowhere near what it was, noones denying that.

Common thing is though, these things didnt age well.

And gamers want a sport, something we can push, that can become accepted and make gaming more socially acceptable, and even a field to work in (via progaming, casting, analyzing etc)

It all depends on how well league changes with the times.
