wmitf just adds a tooltip to items that shows what mod they're from, and a hotkey to extend that to ores and enemies you hover over. I haven't properly played with BTFA outside of testing items, but I check things in their discord fairly often. It's pretty heavily WIP, and it's absorbed a lot of smaller mods, with auralite being a recent one that adds dimensions and should be in one of their updates soon. It's already got a few good bosses, with work being done on post ML bosses that don't fall into the boss rush trap calamity does, as well as events called ages, the first of which should be done soon

Every time I see this game I'm filled with the desire to play again, no matter how recently it last was.

Does Calamity still throw legendary weapons at you from the start and spawn Profaned shit everywhere post-ML? I liked a lot of its content but balance was in the gutter and its accessories took more grinding than all the vanilla rares besides RoD.

I played summoner in calamity, the weapons were shitty and very few in number but the waifus were pretty fun. Wish there was a separate mod for them. If you make a temporary crimson/corruption area with a clentaminator within a hallow biome, will mobs drob crimson/corrupt keys?
I know if you put a bit of jungle in hallowed you can get jungle keys, since I did, but on the wiki bit about multiple biomes in one area it says corruption and hallow are incompatible. IDK if that's just because the hallow will retake it or if key drops are affected too

Hallow and corruption are incompatible in that your character can only be in one of the two biomes, not both at the same time. This means that mobs with drop either souls of light or souls of night, not both.
To answer your question, if you spread enough corrpution/crimson, the area will no longer be hallow, and corrupt/crimson keys will drop, but hallowed keys will not.

Frackin' Universe, though it might feel bloated, storage is OP af compared to vanilla and certain added buildings might make your FPS drop even worse. Its a huge mod with tons of content and new weapons, and there are a few other mods that can go with it.
