Then take a dagger and run into people's faces. They can't wait for your R1 and then roll it, because it's too fast to reaction roll. If you get in close and they panic roll, you can roll catch it. If they don't roll, poke them in the face. If they attack you to stop you from poking them in the face, well now they're not being passive anymore.
If they literally just sprint/roll in the opposite direction forever, you probably want a Katana or Curved Sword. Your weapon does matter because if you're using "ledo/yhorm's/LKGS/exile/greatlance", you actually have no chasing ability at all, and every attack available to you can be avoided on reaction by a passive player.

Yea, it takes more effort on your part to play around a big weapon with a small weapon, because it requires good timing and spacing. However, only those small weapons have the ability to outplay the other person once you're able to apply that effort.
An Ultra only has to swing and pray, but swinging and praying is also all they're able to do.

So the only time anybody is able to attack, is the exact moment when both players come into range of each other?
You can only trade with another player if you know when they're going to attack and you swing at the same time. The most obvious time for players to attack is when people moving forwards reach the edge of their attack range. Meaning most people attack at the first available opportunity.

I hated Kalameet because of his obnoxious attacks that push you through your roll into his hitbox. And cutting his tail was an absolute nightmare. His 'grab' attack was cool though. RULES:
-There will be two teams: Peasantry and Nobility. Once you’ve made the choice you can’t go back. Both teams have a certain list of approved weapons you can check on the sign-up sheet. Not following the rules results in a disqualification (and public shaming)
-Maximum Soul Level of 80 allowed. Someone with CE open will be monitoring all players to make sure this rule and others aren't broken.
-The starting location will be High Wall, followed by Undead Settlement and ending at Lothric Castle.
-Fights are best of 3
-Each fight is 2 minutes long, the one with the most % health left at the end will win if both are alive.

You're acting like shit like spacing and footsies actually matter in a game where the netcode is somehow so fucking awful that you're fighting an after-image of your opponent. There's no room for any grey-area vague shit like spacing and footsies when dependable and consistent methods of attacking and defending like hyper-armor and i-frames exist. I can't even count the amount of times I've been killed by a sword when the sword model itself didn't even touch me, so attempting to move outside of someone's range as they're starting an attack will fuck you 100% of the time, simply because when you see them start an attack on your screen, the attack has already finished on their's. In a game that gives such a huge advantage to players with terrible connection, the only thing you can rely on is hyper-armor, having really long range, and rolling alot. Knowing what the other guy is thinking and coming up with a counter-strategy is just a waste of effort when you can abuse hyper-armor and get free hits just for walking up to him, with little to no repercussions because even if he just rolls away, all you've lost is a little bit of stamina. On LAN, everything your saying would be correct, but this isn't LAN. It's Dark Souls 3 Online PvP.

But Souls is inconsistent as fuck when it comes to difficulty so there are pretty much no "universally hard" bosses because there's always that one guy who beats them on first try and then like you, comes here to humblebrag about it.

Plus the fact that Soulsborne games are character progression games, which means that you could have +10'd equipment and be SL100 and we would have no way of knowing that.

Either way, Pontiff isn't hard, especially if you're good at parrying but generally I would say that for me DS3 is actually harder than Bloodborne, at least if we're talking about the base games.

I found that when you get comfortable with Bloodborne's basic mechanics, your equipment matters much less than just being on point with dodges and parries(especially since the timing on both the Blunderbuss and the pistol is pretty much the same, the difference is in the effective distance and stagger potential so you have only 1 timing to really get used to) but in Souls, your equipment DOES have a difference especially since there are some really crap and useless weapons in the mix that just don't have a good damage output regardless of what you do.

It's not just about levels and upgrade tiers though. Dark Souls is full of "new player traps", especially DaS1 and they've been slowly designing them out ever since.
Souls gives you loads of freedom, but if you use that freedom to choose certain builds or weapons which aren't optimal, then you make the game incredibly difficult for yourself.
Bloodborne doesn't allow you to make the game difficult unless you willfully ignore the things it hands to you. Every player is going to have an upgraded mainhand weapon which is viable against everything in the game. You can't choose to build a Dex/Luck character that uses a Poise Harpe as their main weapon, because Bloodborne doesn't give you that choice.
You can't choose to upgrade a DS1 Rapier to +2 and then rest at the bonfire halfway down the Blighttown long route with half durability and no repair or upgrade boxes. Because Bloodborne doesn't give you that option.
The worst thing you could do in BB is put a single elemental gem into a weapon on a physical build because you weren't looking at what that did to your weapon. That mistake is instantly fixable at no cost.
If BB is easier, it's just because it doesn't allow you to fuck yourself.

I just replayed DS1 and it really stands out that DS3 does not have threatening environments. Death was more frequent in older games because the world itself wanted to kill you. Virtually everything in DS3 is very safely fenced in or the room is a colossal square. Compare this to all the times in DS1 you need to be very keenly aware that a reaction roll won't send you into a fatal fall.

Hell people dump on DS2 but compare something like Heide's Tower of Flame and DS3's Halfway Fortress, where the absolute worst thing the terrain can do to you is "don't fight the giant crab in deep water."

I love DS3 but it made me too aware of a mild casualization.

So I'm new to DS3 multiplayer, can someone give me a quick rundown on the main gank/fight club areas and anything I should know.
