I completely agree, and find it quite sad. At the very least based on my experience with FE11/12 on emulator and also the VC1/2/3 on emulator, the PC control schemes are nothing but great for this type of genre to begin with no matter how you go about it unlike say, the fucking Dynasty Warriors line where using a keyboard with their retarded unmappable ports (well you technically can change them but they revert back the very next battle lul) gives you carpel tunnel syndrome within 30 minutes.

Plus modding means creating your own maps, and honestly FE's mechanics on a PC could expand to a huge campaign instead of simply a map, akin to say Risk/Mountain Blade/etc where you have one gigantic set map, and shit is happening with the AI and multiple factions and stuff since it's all turn based. At that point Fire Emblem truly could support real big battles instead of your 10-20 shitters slaughtering 40 guys at a time with reinforcements streaming in like a meat grinder.

But fuck that right? Let's just go with the consoles and handhelds.

It's established many times over that Est is the "baby". She's weaker than her sisters, she's younger than her sisters, and she has the "misfortune" to look even YOUNGER than she actually is. And she IS weak. Hell, to make anything out of her in her game - or anything out of the many characters spawned by her archetype - you have to baby the FUCK out of her.

But look! She managed to do something that neither of her sisters did! She GOT A FUCKING MAN. They had a whirlwind romance and got married and everything seemed hunky-dory.

Then Est got captured, and Abel was forced to betray Marth to guarantee her safety.

Any and all insecurities that she had about her pitifulness would have been resurrected by that, no questions asked. Her husband was forced to betray his liege and his country because she got captured and needed to be protected again. Especially as a Pegasus Knight sworn to Minerva's service, she knows just how wrong it is for a knight to renege on their vows for whatever reason - and the fact that Abel had to do it for her must have filled her with a lot off guilt.

And then it gets even worse with their base conversation in FE12. Est - seemingly out of the blue - up and asks Abel why he fell in love with her. His fumbles for a bit, then says something on the lines of "Gosh, I can't quite say. It all happened so quickly!"

This causes her to start crying. When he freaks out, she reassures him that it's okay and she's actually happy, then distracts him by requesting to snuggle or some shit like that. The conversation ends, and everything seems all hunky-dory again.

Except it isn't. Consider everything we know about Est, then consider what she does at the end of the game. She almost certainly lied. After all that being small and pathetic and forcing her husband into betraying her liege, she must have been feeling terrible - and so she sought out some small bit of validation, something to bolster her self-esteem, by asking him him why he loved her. Then he couldn’t give a concrete reason. To Est, it must have been as though her worst suspicions were confirmed. She could have very easily assumed that if he couldn’t find a reason, then he must have just grown to care for her because she was small and needed protecting. That’s not validation at all; that would have annihilated any scraps of self-esteem that she had left.

As wrong as she was, Est probably thought that she was doing Abel and everyone else a favor by leaving. Either that or she set out to become stronger herself, but never succeeded.

It's more of a personal preference thing. I like FE3 more (you might just be seeing my posts often and thinking they represent /feg/) but I wouldn't necessarially recommend it over FE12.

Some issues with FE12 include:
- Online-only downloadable content. Why was this even a thing?
- Random barracks items. Giving the player random items with the hope it will make playthroughs interesting is a bad idea; it's far better to take the items the player has into consideration and actually balance enemy strength accordingly.
- Addition of the avatar. I find the new content detracts from the story.
- Removal of dismounting and addition of reclassing: Seriously detracts from the original's level design. For example, instead of racing a thief through an indoor map so you can get a star shard, you can just fly through with several flying units.
- New reinforcements are poorly placed. In that fire bridge chapter in FE3, Xane hints you should hurry up and dragons appear from behind to force you to hurry. In the remake, you'll get raped by wyverns reinforcements that appear in the middle of the map if you advance quickly.
- Weapon triangle isn't inherently bad, but it was added into a game when maps and weapons aren't made with it in mind.
- Weapon ranks add damage and accuracy; this makes calculations less simple and intuitive.
- Story-wise, the original was more barren but the remake added some questionable characterization. Most notably, Marth becomes a braindead retard in FE12 (probably inspired by the Hakoda Maki FE3 manga). Some people consider the addition of support conversations a plus, but I haven't read enough of them to judge. Speaking of supports, the original innate support system was good and placed more emphasis on positioning.

One thing I did like was the new star shards boosting stats rather than increasing growths, and the addition of difficulty modes is huge factor that essentially makes up for the other issues.

There's more tactical depth with additions like the weapons triangle. Larger cast of playable characters. Cast is better fleshed out with base convos and info. Lots of side chapters. Maps are tweaked enough to be more challenging even without the higher difficulties. Ability to read up on setting and character info at any point so those that didn't play shadow dragon/ book 1 aren't left in the dark with the story. Game runs way smoother. Tutorial options for new players.

I know there's stuff like Kris and the Art style that are big turn offs but I wouldn't say there's absolutely no improvement over the original.
