I'd argue Deus Ex is a better approximation of what pnp sets out to be, in video game form than most video games that claim to be rpgs are.

Solid cast, good gameplay/combat. I liked not having shitty transitions into a battle, everything takes place on the same space as the exploration. Game isn't a cake walk but its also not hard enough to warrant grinding.

I'd say the only true downside is the side content to get people's best gear is basically shoved to near the end of the game when you get the flying Epoch to allow access to a few inaccessible islands. Rather than doing it in stages over the course of the game, you basically just do it all at once by quickly traveling through time periods. Like to power up Masamune fully, you have to go to an inaccessible island with an actual tower and ruins which you need the flying aspect of the Epoch to do since the boat in 1000 AD doesn't go there and there is no way in 600 to get there.

Makes the game feel extremely short in comparison to most SNES RPGs, since there isn't much to do but the very straightforward storyline.
