What's the basis for calling Kawakami a prostitute?

I thought the game gave you enough info to ascertain that she works at a seedy maid service but she's not whoring herself out, and only considers it because she barely scrapes enough of the extortion money up being a maid, which you still talk her out of. The adoptive parents then just accuse her of being a sex worker because while they don't know where the money is coming from it can't all be from her teacher salary and it's enough of a damaging accusation given her moonlighting. Okay, so I have an honest question here: did Atlus USA fuck up Goro or is he exactly the same in Japanese?

The reason why I have to ask is that during the pre-release period Goro was a huge topic of conversation in virtually every thread because he wasn't just a straight forward "friendly guy shows his true nature and betrays you" kind of villain. I remember that translator anons would point out how Goro really did like Joker and didn't enjoy killing, for example. I was looking forward to Goro being a pretty good villain, basically. But I just got done playing in English, and I'm feeling confused because if all those things that were supposed to make Goro interesting were indeed true, they didn't come through very well in English. I just don't have enough knowledge of the Japanese version to be able to tell if this was a case of Goroboys hyping him up or if Atlus USA stripped the details of his character away because of the rushed translation in general, and I'd really like to know that answer.

I honestly think they should make the story like half as long and trim the amount of party members by 2 or 3 in order to keep the character writing more focused, but keep the amount of s-links the same so that you can for sure get 2 worthwhile playthroughs out of the game; they obviously want you to play it twice, but p4 was too shitty and p5 is actually too long to warrant it
right now with p5 I can squeeze out about 85% of the content out of a single 90 hour playthrough, but there's no fucking way I'm dropping another 50-60 just to get 1 s-link I skipped and wrap up a couple others, ESPECIALLY when I full well know that there's gonna be an expansion pack by the end of next year at the latest

How to fix Person 5 in a few paragraphs:

Cut the 5th dungeon from the game. Haru doesn't become a Phantom Thief and is relegated to being on the same level as Mishima. She is the main female S-link in the school compared to Mishima being the main male S-link.

Shido is now 6th dungeon with Caisno now 5. Akechi no longer a sub-boss in the dungeon. Instead, Akechi is a looming threat; things go the same way as they did in the story with the mind games and big plot twists, but he doesn't die in the Engine room. Instead, after you defeat The Cleaner (just buff him to be a better final sub-boss), Akechi arrives, you have the same back-and-forth, reveal that Akechi is Shido's bastard son, and then before Akechi repents, he murders a downed Cleaner who is still alive after your battle.

When you ask to join forces to take down a common enemy, he says maybe if he had met them sooner, but he will get his justice in his own way. He then leaves after almost shooting Joker in the head with a warning shot.

Shido boss is the same. You beat Shido. Cut scenes are similar but now have Akechi getting more unhinged. You took away the only thing he lived for. With Shido's death, he becomes the #1 star in Japan, and he slowly starts to unravel on shows.

This leads up to the 7th dungeon -- Akechi's. On TV, he challenges the Thieves to steal his heart by a certain date. If they do, they win, and he'll admit defeat. If they don't, then they will be tried under the law and imprisoned for the rest of their lives.

Leads into group trying to figure out Akechi's Palace. You get more backstory on him. Turns out the Palace is the orphanage he was thrown in as a child after his mom died and was abandoned by Shido. His dungeon is a prison, which ties together the whole Velvet Room motif.

You beat the dungeon, Akechi admits defeat, Fake Igor explains the game between you two and then kills the loser in Akechi. This leads to Mementos dungeon where there is actual motivation for the finale.

Akechi is a red herring; he's actually a good guy with just his own sense of justice

Mishima is the actual traitor. He is the bastard son of Shido with the power of multiple Personas. He gives you Mementos quests to keep track of how strong your crew has gotten.

Mishima abducts Futaba for being a bitch to him earlier in the game and forces you to go through the final Mementos dungeon without a navigator.

Eh, while I agree that it was very similar to P4, at least P5 had the good sense to build up Akechi as a fairly major opposing for the entire game, so it wasn't totally out there like Adachi. And at least Goro had -some- kind of justification for his actions besides "[he] was bored." It's the same, but done better, which I believe is fine.

How can anyone say Adachi was a better character than Akechi?

Akechi is fucking built up the entire fucking game. Even if you saw the twist coming, all his actions have reasons. He's a fully fleshed out character, regardless if you like him or not. Sure, in a way he's just a watered down Light Yagami, but for a video game antagonist, he was pretty amazing.

Adachi, while being fun and being a creepy raper guy, was fucking hollow as fuck. He did all of his evil deeds because he was bored. He had no real motivation and was rarely used in the main storyline. By the process of elimination, he was just as easy to see as the killer as Akechi was the traitor.

Where's the best place to level up kindness? All the other stats are easy but I can only find +1s for this stat.

No. I missed the pancake thing because it was the very first time Goro appeared in-person (possibly in-game? but I can't remember) so I was distracted thinking "oh neat a new party member." Also there's a good like 60 hours in between the pancake line and when Goro actually starts taking an active role in the plot so I'd completely forgotten about it.
