They're people that kept playing in the hope that it would improve. When DD first came out people assumed it was going to be a sort of strategic TRPG with roguelike elements. What they ended up getting over the course of updates was basically just an RNG/risk management game more similar to x-com.

It's not terrible for what it is, but there's not an awful lot of depth to gameplay either. It's pretty easy to figure out the optimal strategy for whatever you're doing and past that you basically just hope the RNG doesn't fuck you.

Or a hyperlane builder ship, expensive and travels at STL speeds between unlinked systems but once it's finished the route it creates a new hyperlance. Higher levels of hyperlane tech speed that ship up and improve its range. Boom hyperlanes are something other than shitty warp again.

99% of C is still STL. Hell you could keep it FTL just still slow as balls compared to regular hyperlanes because it's having to carve the lane out ahead of it rather than just travel. A multi year voyage by a ship to create new hyperlanes would be fine either way.

Can someone explain how Wormholes work and how they're countered to me like I'm five?

This fucking spiritualist fag keeps using wormholes in systems that don't even have stations

Does he only need a station on one end of the trip, and he can get there from anywhere?
>>
>>174879581
Start a new game.
Pick wormholes.
Play for 5 minutes.

WEW that wasn't hard now was it?
>>
>>174879581
Wormholes can only go to or from a system with a station. So if he's in a system with a station he can go to anywhere in range, if he isn't he can only go back to a system that does have a station.
>>
>>174879581
Wormhole stations generate a wormhole to any system withon range so yes they only need a station on one end. They're countered by being really easy to pick off with small raiding forces of corvettes.

Big circle is range of station
basically you warp to any system within its range, except you have to start FROM the station's system

It has no winddown (cooldown after you warp in), but there's a charge time before the jump

Techs increase the range and decreases the time for the jump

Stellaris feels so easy compared to pre-Utopia. It's like they added all the ascension / traditions bonuses without any thought into how it would affect things. You soon become far more powerful than any ai and unstoppable from just playing normally without any skill. I've never had to care about happiness or factions at all too.

Utopia is one of the worst and most lazily done dlcs I've ever seen from Paradox. There's still bugs and problems left over from the previous version they didn't fix, obvious ones. The ai is still shit even if you make it cheat. The combat is still shit, missiles are worthless. The precursors events are still bugged. This is their full-time job, seriously?

Every "addition" in Utopia feels like a mod some spanish guy made on the workshop. The only thing that isn't mod level quality is the dyson sphere megastructure model, but even that doesn't do anything unique in-game. All the megastructures are useless with the exception of habitats which are a patch-material level of an addition. All the end-game ascension things are so fucking bland and lazy, just mod-tier out the ass, with the exception of the shroud but that's basically a glorified curator enclave that gives random stat bonuses. I can't believe they charged half the full game's price for this and I pity those who actually bought it.

Yes? The reason people don't recommend it to you is because it's end game and requires one of three crises to spawn. So by that point it rarely matters that you have better damage than plasma now.
>>
Is Stellaris a good game to play with a friend for some comp stomp?

1. Does it run well all the way, or does it bog down after a while, like Civilization V did?
2. Does it feature situations where one player has to wait a long time for the other to complete their turn, like Age of Wonders 3 did?
>>
>>174882540
meh it's pretty close to plasma, only slightly better damage but worse armor penetration. Once shields are down plasma is still better I would assume. Haven't run any number on it however

Nah they suck because even if they had 90% armor flak would still oneshot them. Regular PD isn't what makes missiles completely useless, although it can help turn the tide vs a missile fleet, since each PD gun only gets time for one shot before the missiles impact so unless you match them 1:1 which is impossible without hugely outnumbering the enemy. It's that flak fires from so far away it gets multiple shots off to ruin missiles shit and can be fit into all the good modules for ships since it's an M slot weapon and the overkill meme, which isn't actually as bad as the visuals suggest but still exists.

Hey guys

I researched Jump Drives and the Unbidden spawned to my "south", where a weak friendly faction was. They started pushing their shit in, so I decided to cruise over with my 50k stack. I defeated the first wave but they just keep coming. I decided to scout out their portal and HOLY SHIT THEY HAVE LIKE 5 60K FLEETS THERE AND THEY DON'T STOP

I can't just shit out 60k fleets like nobody's business, and I'm afraid they'll get stronger by preying on all the weak fucks in the galaxy (my fleet is the strongest one I think, the others have weak fleets that they keep suiciding into the Unbidden)

Am I fucked? Should I reload a save from before I finished researching Jump Drives until I'm ready? Or is it salvageable?

Spiritualists are best even without psionics.
The only way to really unite a people is under a single, shared system of belief. A global religion really could unite mankind for the first time.

Spoiler'd opinion can be disregarded freely.
As long as it didn't have loads of dodgy interpretations and lots of splinter groups and factions. And as long as it was a good religion that focused on discovery, science and improving living standards for mankind instead of assuming they already have all the answers so there's nothing to do but stagnate and die so they can go to heaven.

Im playing with a shitload of mods that change things up so im getting more then I would be in vanilla.

My main tip for resource generation is to dedicate planets to minerals and use habitats for energy, make sure you stack as many +% bonii to those resources as you can on the dedicated planets/habitats. Basically late game ignore innate tile resources and just plaster planets with mines and spam energy habitats. Keep a few planets/habitats for research and food.

any given run with any given government is way too large of a time investment for "lol u got wiped out in 5 minutes because X suddenly happened 5 hours into your run" the game is 90% RNG based difficulty and the rest is only hard because you didnt understand how something worked.

Honestly I rarely even play any run to victory, I just enjoy developing an empire on a largest possible maps. it's comfy as fuck. - can obviously have a really small map and win/lose much faster but this isnt starcraft and i'm not looking to play a highly APM driven RTS when i start the game up
>>
What's everybody's opener? I usually go straight for a Colony ship and then spam a few more if there are good planets near me, but it seems like that's really slow and only snowballs a couple decades after due to the penalties. My brain is always obsessed with anschluss and compels me to settle anything 16 tiles or up.

I think this is the most perfect description of Stellaris I've ever read. I've never actually finished a single game of Stellaris, but I'm still enjoying it in a comfy, "no-pressure" way.

I just switched between controlling a few AI empires in my current game and I realised a problem. They all choose really retarded ascension perks, it appears to be completely random. No wonder I never see the AI building mega structures or doing ascension paths, their to busy picking +100% terraforming speed for their 4th ascension slot.

At the point you're using level 5's the lower level dungeons are so easy that it is just tedium.

The dimensional horror is the hardest, then the fortress, then the devourer.

The fortress has an annoying quest chain to get anything out it (just wiki it), while the stellar devourer can give you a bunch of planets in the system.

In the video he says he fully upgraded the town. Also equipment is pretty much a meme in dd due to all the stress penalties.
None of the above makes levelling characters faster or reduces the likelihood of getting crit death before your first turn or general scummy deaths. It's not like XCOM where you do a lot of risk management to compensate for rng, it's just luck.

>Is it actually worth it or is it quite literally a meme?

My next run I'm going to have to stop myself taking it because it makes the game too easy, because you snowball incredibly well as you have more planets, more pops, and more buildings while AI empires stagnate, and eventually you can over-run them even if your tech level is below theirs (and all it takes is one lucky piece of debris and you can end up right with them anyway).

It works insanely well for Hive Minds, and Authoritarians using Caste System. Hive Minds can ignore the happiness issues, while an authoritarian species can use Caste System and just build mines & farms on the worst habitability planets.

It's not even that bad for empires who use just regular populations, the production penalties aren't that bad.

Plus you could head down the bio ascendancy as well, it only takes 3 points to take away a negative trait and add any of the major resource traits (intelligent, thrifty, industrious, agrarian) for the pops of a new planet.

I have a hard time deciding between Wormholes only and Hyperlanes only. On one hand, wormholes are interesting because they require infrastructure, and there are some good tactics associated with that. On the other hand, Hyperlanes make choke points a thing.

I don't like having too many empires on the map. I don't play particularly aggressively, and diplomacy is pretty shit, so an overcrowded map is seriously unfun for me.

I also like to restrict FTL types. It makes things more consistent. Unrestricted FTL types make it feel like the lore of the world is inconsistent, if that makes any sense.
>>
>>174904274
You'll want two different designs.
One with an FTL snare and the other without.
You use the FTL snare to trap a fleet in the middle of a system you spammed the other type of fortress with.

I see it being a spiritualist race understands that science answers "is" questions and religion answers "ought" questions and is able to seperate the disciplines sufficient enough to be a theocratic organization capable of FTL.

Whereas a government with Materialist has a history on its home planet with no essential or core religions in its institution and if they ever existed they were wiped out in an ancient library of Alexandria situation with no memory.

The way I see it, an Earth Civ could not be materialist, for us religion is actually a core component of rights theory which then in turn spawned religious freedom and our modern atheism, in reality you can view atheism as a consequence of Christianity.

The disdain for other spiritual civs could be explained by how alien other religions seem to an athiest x10000 because they are real aliens with possibly atrocious customs, where as a spiritual space empire would possibly reach some kind of singularity or pantheism where they find similiarities between their faith and other spiritual government faiths.

Although in reality, people on our planet feud over things they are similar over (sunni vs shia etc.) than people with vastly different ethics.

>>174886461

May as well just design naked fortress with just snare as an expendable magnet in the centre, another couple of naked forts to sit on the edge of the system and buff/debuff.
Then just make one type of heavy/heavy/heavy/hangar so you have lots of range and damage, with fighters and pd for corvettes and torps; mines in the ability slot. Slap those in a ring around the snare at their extreme range.

The 10% habitability in diplomacy is actually extremely good, the visitor centers are great, federation is nice if you like that playstyle, but that's it really. The bottom left 2 suck dick, the finisher is trash.

Domination is good for someone who shits out tributaries and vassals. Decent for pacifists who declare war of liberation -> vassalize -> integrate. Tributaries granting 35% of their energy and mineral income is very good, too. Very powerful to fuel a small empire, but dangerous if you leave them to grow unchecked.

by scale, any divison operation on 64 bit is significantly slower than 32 bit, and any division on unsigned integers is significantly faster than signed ones (bit shift vs actual division)
It's still a very small part in the large amount of processing power taken by the game, but it may also be one of the reasons the game starts to run like crap as more entities are created.

There is no reason in this day and age to give the player access to ANY number less than 64 bit.
Inventory space? 64 bit.
Fleet power? 64 bit.
Ship equipment and stats? You bet your ass you're using them bits.
Counting bits is a fool's errand when the real gains have always been with solid efficient routines, in which 32 vs. 64 has no real tangible difference.

I kept getting shit roles even though Aus is the most High tier civ I still haven't won one with them yet.
I play them mostly for their music and broken abilities, and they actually benefit from being near warmongers because of increased production during war declarations against them.

20k with tier 1 weapons, bad loadouts and a bad comp is not the same as 20k with tier 5 weapons, good loadouts and a good comp.

Also, for me, China is the most obnoxious civ to be next to. Something about how they act is worse then Alexander, who is actually quite nice to me usually, as is Rome.

What's heavier, a kilogram of steel or a kilogram of feathers?
That's right it's steel, because steel is heavier than feathers,

Nothing outside of some post-processing sugar.
The mods make it shittier, most of them add ships with 90s tier models and textures.

So, galaxy setup
Best size is Huge
AI Empires is best at ~2/3rds of the max for whatever size you're running at
Advanced Starts, no more than 4-5
Max FE's should be 4
Habitability should be at 1x
Ring > Spiral (4) > Spiral (2) > literal shit > Eliptical
Empire placement should be clusters unless you want to be cucked by an FE
All FTL turned on
Obviously crises turned on.

Do you use sector or just manually control all your planets? I heard governor AI is bad.

It's great
>>
>>174924483
Crisis can be turn off.
>>
>>174924554
You can't manually control all your planets except with mods, there's a soft cap on it and you get penalized for going over it. The AI is shit at developing worlds, it's best to give it planets you've already developed fully and then turn off redevelopment of tiles so it can't do anything except shuffle pops around.
>>
>>174924762
Well you can play tall and go fanatic pacifist + expansion tradition + imperial prerrogative and never have to use sectors.
