Repeating my question here.
What's the obsession with playing tall in EU4? I'm not talking about the people who don't have any other option but to play tall because they're boxed in by greater powers or those who are just roleplaying, I'm talking about those who play a free city in the HRE because it's the best for playing tall or purposefully keep Prussia small to keep militarism at max.

To be able to play tall is a solution to a problem, it shouldn't be what you're striving for.

Hearts of Iron IV is a good game.

But as I have understood, this can actually occur if the game autosaves at a moment when you have no internet connection, so even if you have a good wifi connection, maybe it was a moment at which you didn't have a connection?

Otherwise, did you do something with DLCs, tampering with savefiles or anything at all? I don't know. When it happened to me I was sure I had done nothing. It may just be bugged.

Even if you are playing with 4 colonists, there is no fucking way you can have colonized Mexico, the Caribbean, Peru, La Plata, New Grenada and the Philippines by the year 1540. Totally impossible.

If history can't be replayed in the game, that means the game is bad.

I think a more suitable method to represent massive swathes of European claims to areas would be a "declaration of claim" mechanism to replace or supplement the Treaty of Tordesillas mechanic.

That is, you'd spend some bird mana to declare a particular colonial region which you've discovered to be your exclusive party ground, and other countries trying to colonise that territory would incur a massive relationship penalty with you or some other maluses. AI allies would almost always steer clear of claimed territories, while AI rivals might colonise them just to spite you. The AI would also be more likely to respect these claims if their capital is on the same continent as your capital (so Europeans will respect one-another's claims, while Asians won't give a fuck about what the Europeans agree to amongst themselves).

In this way, the game could represent how, for example, the British laid claim to the entire Australian continent in 1770, and went unchallenged in settling the continent from 1788 onwards.

You know Cuba has like 6 provinces right? So it will take you at least 20 years to colonize just that shitty island. Needless to say you can't just conquer the Inca unless you have a province neighboring them, and it takes 400 days just for the colonist to ARRIVE to a province in the Pacific South American region. And getting to La Plata needs you to take colonies in Africa, otherwise you wont be able to get the colonial range.

The only way I see you getting those borders by 1540 is if you start colonizing the Americas in 1470, 20 years before it was discovered IRL

Newfag poorfag here, I stumbled upon the concept of grand strategy games recently and got EU3:DW since it was the best combination of easy to find and download, relatively low learning curve (according to a 5 minute google search), and most importantly that I could actually run on my toaster of a laptop since I apparently can't run any incarnation of EU4. Since I've picked it up, I've played a few saves as the teutonic order, minamoto, the aztecs, brandenburg, and sweden, each lasting for around 100 years give or take. Currently on frankfurt, trying to see how far I can take them just by blitzing towards tech with an emphasis on being small and economic and avoiding other people's wars. Maybe when I have 10+ tech levels over absolutely everyone else I'll just steamroll them so that even if the emperor bitches about it, he can't stop me. Haven't decided yet.

The thing is, I haven't slept well in like 5-6 weeks. I used to get like 10 hours a night, now I wake up, open my laptop and load my save again, play for around 15-20 hours straight before I get too tired to continue, then wake up and do it again. The actual time I wake up and fall asleep varies and is dismissive, and I end up eating whenever I actually notice I'm hungry rather than on a semi-regular pattern. I don't even give any mind to my other hobbies anymore and my backlog has not only been not touched, I'm not even keeping tabs on what should go in it.

I have NEVER been sucked into a game like this before. is it just because it's a new genre for me, am I maybe a little autistic, or is this just norrmal for new people trying to overcome the learning curve? Regardless, I figure I'll lurk here for a while and hopefully absorb something useful, if only just perspective. Just from browsing this thread, it seems like this community has a decent learning curve too.

How pleb can you get, /gsg/? The AI is awful, it can't do anything right. It's easy to steamroll the AI in any grand strategy game, simply because it's shit.

The only way to know if you're good, or to get good, is to play with other humans. The AI will always pale in comparison to a real human. SP is boring, soulless and it isn't even a challenge - it's only useful to learn the basics of the game. The true glory comes from outsmarting and defeating another human.

MP is the way that grand strategy is meant to be played. I can't even explain the feeling I get from outsmarting and completely outmaneuvering another person in battle. I can't even explain it, I'm lost for words. Whenever I force another player to accept my demands, I feel like a God. I am a God.

I honestly hate how the German Unification is handled in vic2, I'd prefer German cores to be on the German Confederation lands and german unification needn't require all of the cores, especially not Prussian nor Austrian ones. Minors could try to unify themselves if Bavaria/Hannover/Rhineland gets going but then a Prussian/Austrian intervention is quite probable. Maybe France would help if the "minor" German state promised real nice that it wouldn't want A/L?
