Okay this is really weird. My 60 year old ruler got cancer and somehow became healthier because of it.

Cancer is considered a serious illness with -3 health.
My cancer was treated experimentally giving me +3 health.
My particular case of cancer however was mild so I got an additional +1 health to lower it to only -2 health.

Basically I got cancer and got +1 health and +3 to all stats as a result making my ruler much healthier and significantly more skilled at everything.

I don't recall that being how cancer works. You can develop antibodies to deal with a virus and you'll never have to worry about that particular strain of the virus but other viruses and mutated strains of the same virus will still affect you.

Cancer on the other hand is caused by faulty DNA which continue to self-replicate endlessly and thus cause huge, cancerous growths. Just bunches of useless cells that continue to replicate until they cause enough problems to kill you.

How do I start a 1.20 Athens Academical run pls help

I always start off by getting independence ASAP from Byzantines by improving for a few months with the Ottomans. I break free, get independence, take Achaea and Morea and war reps in the peace deal. Start improving with Austria and Hungary, get Hungary into an Alliance, Austria has been hit or miss.

Pour all my Admin into stability to get back up to 0, because unrest at -3 stability is unmanageable.

Any better way of doing this? I inevitably get declared on by the Ottomans after our truce is up, and they're usually +1 mil tech over Austria and Hungary and we end up losing.

I also end up falling deeply behind in military tech because your ruler is a 2-2-0 or something trash like that, and it's not like you can afford advisors either.

You realise how expensive that is in the current patch? Even shitty merc infantry cost 30g and their maintenance price was doubled in 1.20. Most nations can't afford to keep an army that consists entirely of artillery and merc infantry around for very long, hence the need to mix in regular infantry and thus the need for manpower.

Quantity is extremely useful purely for its finisher, +50% Force Limit Modifier. Keep in mind that +50% stacks with other Force Limit Modifier bonuses. So if you combine that with Nepalese Traditions +25% Force Limit Modifier then you get +75% Force Limit Modifier once Quantity is done.

You can get similar stacking bonuses from the other ideas in the group. e.g. Manpower Recovery from Quantity+Nepalese Traditions, Manpower Modifier from Quantity+Our Valleys United. If you find a way to stack bonuses you almost always want to do that. Quantity is already a really good idea group but imo it's a no-brainer choice as Nepal specifically.

The AI has four major problems as far as I can tell.

>It don't know how to exploit the division designer like the player can, so you can easily BTFO any AI army as long as you use good divisions

Paradox telemetry says that 40% of games in HOI4 are played as Germany. I suspect the awful AI is why.

Heavy tanks stick with dismounted infantry or by themselves in their own brigades (keep it brigade sized before support companies). Only.

Give infantry divisions an Arty battalion (at least) and Engineering and anti-tank companies

For Mountain Divisions: Attach a marine battalion and keep arty to support companies - engineers a must. Light tanks and cavalry aren't a bad addition either.
Upvet your Mountaineers if you aren't Germany/Soviet union/any other country with a ton of Mountain troops like the Swiss.

Paratroopers are a godsend against smaller countries - drop a few on an enemy capitol

Most importantly prioritize equipment. Make sure top of the line gear isn't wasted on Garrison units - in fact prevent them from using new equipment whatsoever but make sure they have AA

I need help here. Austria is in personal union with Commonwealth, and just about to inherit it. So I need to kill Austria before this happens. I am allied with Spain, Bohemia and Russia, while Austria is allied with most of the HRE,Crimea, some Italian states and Scandinavia.

The secret sauce is 5 mountaineers/4 marines/3 artillery + engineer company. That's the basic cheap division that will btfo shitty AI divisions.

If you have the resources, add a Light Tank (Or Medium Tank once you research Medium Tank II, 1941). This adds useful Breakthrough and some Armor. And when you do that add a Maintenance Company.

Then over the course of the game as your industry kicks in gradually replace the Line Artillery with Medium Self-Propelled Artillery (M-SPG) for massive amounts of Soft Attack.

Either use cavalry or the starting motorized/light tank hybrid divisions for encircling, rushing, and other shit. But don't bother spamming a ton of armor divisions, it's pointless to do that when the aforementioned division is the best in nearly every instance.

Shit you should never or almost never do:
>Bother with Support Artillery (except for Paratroopers)
>Use more than one Heavy Tank per division (just one is enough to add the armor you need)
>Use more than 3 line artillery at once for an infantry division
>Use signal companies (initiative isn't worth the org loss)
