How micro intensive is SD? I really like the look of it but I have the reactions of a mongoloid and my brain explodes if there's too much going on too fast. I'm more used to combat missions type speed.

>>173768687
I'm really shit at micro too, and it's not too bad. it's easier than wargame in any case, as you don't usually have to fuck around with turning off infantry MGs or radars.
it gets easier with more players I think, since you're watching a smaller area than in a 1v1.
>>173768687
much more micro heavy than wargame imho
>>173769358
That's what I was hoping, the videos I've seen do look to be slower pace and less units which is a plus for me. I just bought the game anyway so guess I'll see for myself if my brain melts. At least you can actually (basically) pause the game against the ai this time round.

luftlande getting a 210mm spotter in A is actually pretty good; if you're in a team game and aim it well, you can really fuck up the opening blob of the guy across from you and take the town or wherever you're going.

>>173772548
Explain your ALB purism to me. I don't get it, but it might be because I haven't played it myself. Do you miss the tomcat circles? The atgm spam? Playing mixed blue forever?
What's up with people choosing not to advance onto the middle of the map and instead sit pretty far back and then call in massive amount of air and a few "heavy tanks" to defend the last bit of territory. I mean they still lose so it's a weird strategy.
>Real-world Tactics: Battles rage over three distinct phases, where different units unlock over time, mimicking the movements of real-world armies and adding variety to the ever-changing theatre of war. A dynamic front line illustrates the ebb and flow of the conflict. Pin down your opponent's infantry to gain the advantage and force a retreat, or push through with a perfectly executed plan.

if they leave in the first 5 min, nothing was lost, rehost
if they leave midgame, take it as a loss for your team due to rout, leave - it only happens in half-lost games anyway
So what's the time and point limit that's most fair to both early game and late-game divisions? I find the default 2000 point limit too punishing for the armored divisions, the inf guys usually get too much of a lead before phase C.
>>173787367
no, it's pretty disgusting, and literally everyone with a brainstem is confused as to how anyone thought putting a phase C allied tank in a german deck's phase A was a good idea

What this is not a roleplaying game
>if they leave in the first 5 min, nothing was lost, rehost
Yes it was, my and other people time
>it only happens in half-lost games anyway
Quits after first 10 minutes happen very rarely, its the people that quit before that time because their super-duper starter gimmick didn't work who are the cancer. If I have waited 10 minutes in the lobby, then played for antoher +5-10min and motherfucking 2-3 people leave they deserve to be punished.
>>173791279
In my first and only game it ended in a minor defeat, and only because of the fucking firefly
>>173791283
>Yes it was, my and other people time
generally when someone quits early, if you type "rehost?" before leaving, everyone will bail with you and you'll find yourself in an instantly filled lobby with the same people except for the quitter
Will a proper matchmaking system happen?
Also how much maps will there be?
If a proper matchmaking system will happen then Parajews might get my shekels.
Fun's over.
>>173791964
That was quick
>>173791392
yeah, playing against a competent 12. SS basically turns into "kill the firefly right away or you're fucked." that is, you can lose immediately to a single unit in phase A, from an armored deck that is supposed to be weak in phase A. not to mention the star unit that you see in every match with this german division is a british tank.
and madmat was combative toward people calling it completely fucking nonsensical in the closed beta forums, saying they "playtested it and you can sometimes scare it away after it eats half your opener so it's okay honhon"
they came up with a cool and sensible phase mechanic and then instantly shat all over it.
>>173792473
So Eugen fucked it already basically?
>>173791825
the playerbase is not large enough for actual match making
>>173792473
I remember seeing the phase mechanic suggested in the old /wgg/ as a way to make spec decks viable. Like, keep the massive weakness of moto, but let them play to their strengths longer by having an artificial recon phase at the start of the match.
Very surprising that their practical implementation ends with armored decks being strong earlygame and an infantry deck playing defense until lategame at which point it annihilates with unkillable jagdpanthers
Business Idea
Make the Firefly phase C
>>173793031
only if we get a tiger in phase A
>>173792642
Who knows what the balance will be like as we get closer to release. Speaking in absolutes about the balance is fucking stupid right now because most of the divisions aren't even in the game. For all we know there might be even more retarded shit coming. If they're smart they'll also not do any balancing until release.
>>173793031
phase B would be fine, by then the inf divisions should have a few AT gun killzones set up in preparation for tanks anyway.
>>173792473
desu we have only seen 6 divisions and haven't seen what other divisons have in offer, also firefly isn't that good in 1v1 because it's 200 points.

>>173793668
when i get my M36 i will bathe in nazinigger tears
>>173793961
Like, I don't think I have any objections to some divisions basically being balanced as counters to other divisions, it would be a way to represent the fact some of the divisions fought each other several times in Normandy and because proper rivals, like the 3rd Canadian and the 12th SS. Wouldn't be surprised if they gave 12th SS a firefly in A to deal with some OP shit the Canucks can pull.
>>173792764
Armored decks arent strong earlygame tho, except for the 3rd maybe. Taking the fly takes 200 of your 500 points, which is a fuckton when your inf is costly as hell.
>>173794010
Were captured units not sent in the first waves during the war? It would make sense to have them be used for recon and such if they're less likely to be shot by the enemy and more likely to be shot by your own side.
I don't know what the doctrine policy was towards them. The phase system isn't about representing which units are the fastest to arrive on the battlefield, they represent which units were sent as advance parties and which were kept in reserve.
>>173794098
Jacksons didnt the reach the front until October 44.

>>173793576
The firefly was captured and used by the recon battalion of the 12th SS, that's the justification given by Eugen. 15th gets AVRE and Crocodile in phase 2 as well, and they are cheaper.
>>173794145
The problem is how good the firefly is for the entire game, it can solo the entire line up of a 3rd Armored player in phase A and with the fact the 12th gets better income than the 3rd Armored until phase C where then they can get panthers which will shit on any tanks the 3rd Armored can get.
>>173794413
Fucking phase A I mean.
>>173793961
>I don't play 1v1 so no one does
lol. Firefly isn't good in 2v2 either because you don't want 1/5 of your points going to one vehicle at the start that can be countered by a 40 point AT gun
>>173794010
Yes it does captured enemy vehicles would be the first ones to go because they have much higher chance at being shot by friendly fire.
>>173794332
plus you'd want to give them the most dangerous roles when you can't maintain them anyway

no, because the game actively discourages flanking and ambushes
as is, you'll flank that tiger, miss your 16% chance to hit the first shot, and then it'll turn its front armor towards you and it'll be a giant waste of fucking time

>>173795092
>hit F
>rush mid
>win the indy 500
>>173795779
I really think they should add a "first shot" accuracy bonus on a target that doesn't see the shooter, it would make AT gun ambushes alot deadlier. IIRC most shermans were knocked out by AT gun ambushes instead of tank combat.
Also
>sherman don't get a indirect fire ability
this is bullshit, they were historically used as impromptu artillery guns

This shit is a virus, fuck that anon from last thread and remove this garbage from the OP
>>173798946
it's still a flank if the target isn't attacking something else
>>173799190
pretty sure the whole point of flanking is to make the enemy concentrate their firepower on one side while attacking from the side as well for pressure. if you're just attacking someone who's not looking at you it's just an ambush or a fortunate attack and then it turns into a normal engagement if it developes.
>>173799614
a flank is literally just an attack from the side, whether it is currently engaged or not, and whether it can see your flanking unit or not
>enemy tank is facing toward your likely attack direction
>quickly move around the side out of its line of sight, then shoot it before it can reorient
this is, by definition, a flank
is this really a difficult concept
Anyone else thinks that the line of sight overlay alone makes sd way more playable than all the wargames? Like 90% of the gameplay in these games is about abusing los so your shooty thing can shoot at their thing, but their counter thing just barely can't shoot back, it's really nice to not just plan your moves around vague assumptions about los.

I want to desperately play Steel Division but my Paradox hate is just too strong. Why aren't Eugen self publishing like they did with the Wargame series? I suppose it's a moot point, regardless.
>>173805612
Why do you hate Paradox? DLC practices?
>>173805612
Wargame wasn't self published, it was published under Focus
>>173805221
>CP
what?
>>173805717
Bingo. I'm convinced there's going to be a deluge of the shit for Steel Division, and that the paid DLC for Red Dragon was a tester to see if the Eugen community would lose their minds.
I had no issue with the nation packs for Red Dragon btw. Although adding them to the menus before you've downloaded the DLC was pretty cheeky.
>>173805987
Yeah, I was talking out of my arse there.

>>173806223
About DLC, when searching for SD on steamcharts a certain German Historical Content Pack also shows up.
Could it be a DLC in the works?
>>173806223
I'm fine with DLC only if they add some new fucking maps along with new divisions.
Lack of new maps strangulated ALB and RD's post-launch.
>>173806223
I'm okay with DLC. I know they'll probably get jewy with it, but it also obviously means more content, and there's a lot of ground they could cover with ww2.
>>173806932
Its the cosmetic pre order shit
>>173806932
No, that's just a content patch that un-cucks the German insignias and emblems. Game had to be de-Nazified to conform with German (((law))), but Eugen gave the rest of us the historically accurate stuff as that content pach, so you can opt in and out.
>>173806932
Maybe. But they've already got pre-order and "delux" (see full) editions of the game. Stratification of the audience from launch, pre-launch even, is just detestable to me, and the people who pardon Paradox because they make "niche" games just boggle my mind.
>>173807341

IMO the last niche game Paracucks made was Victoria II, from there on its reddit tier casual games.
Probably the best thing to do is to look at the amount of DLC Cities Skylines has.
I dont care about DLC as long as they dont give an unfair advantage since I dont plan on buyin them
>>173799182
What happened? Downloaded it but never used it, though I used another anon's download for Mius Front that isn't listed there.
>>173807763
Victoria II was amazing but I tried to go back to it recently and my god it hasn't aged well. It feels so clunky.
DLC predictions everyone?
The obvious ones are payware divisions, I'm guessing the the US 1st Infantry (big red one) and the 2nd SS Panzer (das reich). Both famous, both at Normandy, both massive b8 for fanboys.
After that a cool expansion could be Steel Division: Bagration 44. But you'd struggle to get many more than 4 different Russian divisions, they were pretty uniform.
Either way I hope they don't ditch the game and make sequel like they did with ALB and RD, I don't want to lose access to loads of maps for no reason. Standalone expansions are the way to go.

Depends which nation you play. The Brits can be a bit of a slog if you don't like spending 80% of your time autistically shuffling and managing all your different colonial postings and whatnot, but the smaller Global Powers (Germany, France) are more managable and the local powers (USA, Japan, Italy, etc.) have very little of that as they don't have many colonial stations to faff about with.
Aside from that if you can handle DF you'll have zero problems with RtW.

2. I'm not sure if Calliope's are that good becuse of the reload time, I have more M7's so I can arty the enemy pretty much at all times with no stopping.
3. Why M4A1's instead of Stuart's? Pak 36 will not take down Stuart at range and PaK 40 will take down both Stuart and M4A1, any particular reason you put them in?

>>173858408
1. It's just my personal preference but I like dual use AT guns that has both AP and HE. I use arty or planes to keep Firefly suppressed.
2. You're right, after a few games I find the better range on M7 much more important. No more getting bullied by Wespes!
3. Shermans are just there to bully Panzer IIs. Again, use arty or planes to keep AT guns suppressed. As soon as phase B hits it's Jumbo time all the way.
>>173855113
>What are assault engineers actually for?
If you mean the guys with the 20 HE 100m bombs, I thought they were shit at first but I warmed up to them. 100m range looks bad on paper if you're used to RD's scale, but it's actually pretty substantial in a forest/city fight in SD, and it just fucking oneshots enemy squads every time.
I haven't tried using the scottish ones yet, mostly luftlande. No MG and only one bomb might make them suck, hard to say.

>>173865418
Also they buff unit experience by one star for those inside the radius
>>173865343
as the other anons said, they're an AoE experience buff
good for hiding on the edge of a town to help big infantry fights, reducing suppression to armored units, and buffing the rate of fire and accuracy of AT guns and such

>>173865672

>>173866240
Yes, they do
>>173865869
fallschirmjagers are the best infantry in the game currently, and they cost 2 and a half times as much as army rifles, that's no surprise. the 101st should get their own stronk elite paratroopers, unless eugen decides they're too demoralized by pearl harbor.
and army rifles are really not that bad for 20 points, especially considering they get AT. just avoid CQC since they have no SMG, and treat the whole riflemen + half-track package as a single unit. half-tracks in towns but out of range of infantry AT can really carry early infantry fights. all of the 3rd armored's phase B infantry are solid, too.

Is this game any good? My interests were picqued when it came out but it looks very dry. Do you recommend it?
Unpopular opinion: the Dingo and M20 command are useful and worth a card
>>173867424
It's one of my favourite games full stop, almost endlessly replayable and the combat can be delightfully tense as you put your own designs to the test. Though I won't deny it's got its janky parts (the ai for your ships launching torpedoes never quite works how you'd like it to for one thing, and sometimes if you beat the shit out of the AI too hard they start building only submarines because they're too scared of your surface fleet), I'd definitely recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone with an interest in pre-dreadnought-interwar era naval combat.

Would a Jumbo Firefly (I don't think this ever existed but I'd love to be wrong) be better in every way than a Panther?

But it would be stronger yea.

>>173868639
>killed 100, lost 2500

>>173871708
No, Jumbos have higher ground pressure because thinner tracks and the controlled differential steering system used in all Shermans is inferior to the more sophisticated double differential in the Panther, and that's not even getting into the problems with the 17 pounder in the Sherman turret, which while expedicious and effective in the Firefly for the purposes of supplying a common and powerful AT element in British armoured units, was plagued with issues from cramped quarters to unburnt powder singing the gun crews after firing. In my opinion though, such a creation could probably have been a close match for the Panther, especially as the allies could likely have deployed them with numerical superiority.
In game though, where most of the things that actually make tanks effective in combat aren't simulated, just big guns and thick armour, probably.

How do you deal with simultaneously microing on 4 fronts in 1v1?
I can't even beat the medium ai because usually all my shit suddenly dies in seconds on one front while i'm microing something else. I play a lot of gookclick and i swear that game is easier on the multitasking than this one.
Or maybe it's just because trying to 1v1 with hitleryugend is a bad idea.
>>173873669

with the scale and economy of the game, it feels to me like 3v3/4v4 is the ideal match size
colombelle, for instance, is just the right size in a 4v4 to let 2 luftlande players actually be relevant in the railyard and town, with 2 SS-panzer covering the open gaps
10v10s are a clusterfuck as always, and the economy really feels like a trickle with the amount of space 1v1s have you covering

>>173874026
if you mean the luftlande's pak 36, they're actually pretty good because of their machine gun rate of fire. but yeah, they're not gonna do shit to an AVRE unless you let it get within 300m, that thing is firefly-tier bullshit.
your only answer to that in luftlande is a side shot from the HS 129, and in that case you better hope the other guy doesn't bring out a spitfire and fuck your duck

1. Are you using your halftracks properly? Each Armoured Rifles comes with a free fire support vehicle. It's as strong as a Vickers squad and requires anti-tank weapons to get rid of. Keep them alive and use them to shred infantry. Tracks are your friends. Especially in cities.
2. You're technically an armoured deck but your only good tank is the Jumbo. So you're actually a Mechanized deck. Don't pretend otherwise.
3. Peak-a-boo your AT cannons. Hide them BEHIND hedgerows, only moving into the hedge when you're ready to fire. This prevents it being spotted and nuked before it can be used.
4. Greyhounds are a pretty good meme for putting the breaks on the initial enemy rush. If you can move it into position to fire down the road they're fast moving transports across, you win.

>>173875469
>Each Armoured Rifles comes with a free fire support vehicle
not really free, you're paying 20 for the infantry and 20 for the half-track. I know I'm being pedantic, but it's important to remember that army rifles are only a 20-point squad, on top of paying some infantry-killing power for that bazooka, which highlights that they're not going to do much alone without the support of their half-track
agreed on the rest, though
>see enemy AA cluster
>spawn in two tubes
>5 M15s destroyed
>>173876232
The most proper way to treat it is as a single 40-point unit split over two parts. Arm Rifles and the M3 are inseperable.
So if you're letting the tracks sit behind the line doing nothing you're wasting half your unit. It would be like buying a Sherman and disabling all the MGs.
Would using Wirbelwinds be any good for messing up infantry?
>>173876671

That doesn't seem big at all, normal arty has like double that range. I guess the benefit is that it doesn't give away it's position by shooting, but at 1300m you pretty much have to show it to the enemy anyway.
just confirmed that the two 15th infantry spotters are 1300m as well
>>173902314
>at 1300m you pretty much have to show it to the enemy anyway.
not at all, there are so many line of sight blockers that it's really easy to hide them near the front, behind a building at the edge of a town or behind a hedgerow or whatever.
people use mortar half-tracks all the time, and they all have less range than OPs. plus, like you said, they actually have to fire and give away their position.

Are early battleships worth their cost in RtW? In the first few years torpedos improve fairly quickly and all it takes is 1-2 of them from a shitty destroyer to sink a battleship that costs millions to make and years to build. personally i only use them to stop myself from being blockaded, most of my early wars are basically a series of cruiser actions and tons of 23kn long range light cruisers raiding. i experimented with 10k ton b's with only enough belt armour to keep out 12in guns and 1in of deck armour because nothing plunges in the wars where you'll be using them.

no amount of recon can help you against infantry ATGM. Instead you need to use / create line-of-sight blockers, or fire-position the originating point.
Recon's important, yes, but not for the reasons most commonly claimed.
Just played my first game. Damn this micro is tough up until you begin to memorize what key is to reverse, go fast, etc.

>>173909401
Red Dragon's definitely faster passed than ALB, right? It's not just me? I used to be pretty on the ball in ALB, but in Red Dragon I get caught on back foot all the bloody time. Though, it doesn't help I'm an autist who likes seeing all his wee tanks lining up, or creating the perfect air defence net (that he forgets to micro and lets get arty sniped and SEAD'd to oblivion).
>>173910304
Pardon? If you know where the enemy ATGM is placed you avoid that area with your expensive vehicles till you have cleared it out with infantry or bombs. If you don't know where the enemy is you're practically playing blindfolded rendering any sort of strategic play impossible.
>>173913579
I think he's just pointing out how hard infantry ATGM teams are to spot. Unless I've had exceptional recon they've been able to sit safe and snug barely 3km away. And that's just in some woods, never mind bloody buildings.
Any anons able to explain this to me? Mius front doesn't have these sort of options at all, infact the screen looks nothing like this in mius front.
Germans are fucking bullshit in Rule the Waves. They never move their navy around so if you go to war with them you can easily raid their holdings, but a battle in northern europe is impossible since they will have like 4 battle ships, 9 armored cruisers, 6 light cruisers and 20 destroyers.
>>173918108
Play Brits, smash numerically inferior German fleet with ease multiple times until they give up rebuilding it.
Is it just me or is steel division really boring compared to Wargame? Just can't force myself to play it. Feels like it is slow and lacks strategic depth.
>>173909625
>It's also really important in this one, so you need to check up on that.
I only played in the previous beta, but recon there was barely necessary. It was neat for the biggest open spaces but when there isn't any invisifire I wouldn't call it important.
>>173918309
Is there a point in going to war with Austria-Hungary? they don't have any colonial holdings so when you crush their navy you don't get anything out of it besides maybe some extra wartime funding.
>>173918542
yes, it tries to be far more inclusive, and sheds much of the depth. I doubt it's as enjoyable as Wargame to those who are already decent at it.
>>173918845
Yeah, unless you want to absolutely smash them and take occupy their home territory which generally requires an immensely long war in which you must achieve Total victory, going after Austria Hungary is really only a political/RP manoeuvre to obtain more money and Prestige.
>>173917952
My memory's quite fuzzy but I think you could see the available support detachments if you mouseover the command units, or something like that.

I'd take another recce in humbers instead of the carrier, because humbers are great

more phase A rifles, replacing the B bren group. bren groups are shit.

looks alright to me, but probably trade the churchill IVs for VIs since the IV doesn't get HE in its main gun.
>support
that phase A supply truck can go to B. I rarely run out of ammo on anything in the first 10 minutes, and you get more total trucks that way.
>AT
maybe one card too many of PIATs, especially when you're going that hard on rifle leaders. I'd throw in an extra 6-pounder or 17-pounder
>AA
looks pretty good, just remember to use those crusaders for fire support, they're mostly good for that

I'd swap the second 2-in carrier for one of the heavy arty OPs, but that's me. 4 priests might be too expensive overall, too.

I'd just swap out the bomber spit for a rocket phoon, as the spit's bomb load feels pretty weak to me. if you get better use out of the spit's bombs and its 2 stars for fighting, then go ahead though.

it also has better armor, more total HE and rate of fire against soft targets, and is a tiny bit faster. definitely worth it in my opinion.

as a ameriboo the cmd panther is straight cheese
How do I use destroyers effectively? In combat when controlled by AI they just hang around behind capital ships and don't to shit, and If I take manual control and drive them up close the enemy ships they very rarely fire their torpedos.

Anti Air just seems weak overall unless you have clusters of them.
>>173943085
It's the same thing with many other tanks and infantry. First shot is usually a 12% chance, follow by an additional 10-20% chance every other consecutive shot. This happens when your units are engaging at long ranges. Move them closer for more accurate shots, or just wait until they zero in on the target after missing 4-5 shots.
>>173943407
The anti air in Steel Division reminds me of the anti air in RUSE. They would more often route your planes than destroy them.

Set them to Support or Screen a ship, then right click on the flagship formation's flag and click the "convoy attack" button (it's in the same row as the hold fire options), they'll then start making attack runs and whatnot and actually use their torps. Or just build gunboats and content yourself shitting on the enemy DDs.
