1) Inside the game settings itself accessible via a menu
or
2) Foliage would not be in the game at all

We'll see if the developers stance on this evolves in the future - it's entirely possible for competitive matchmaking they will force unedited .ini settings but allow you to do it on private servers. It's especially bad at the beginning and end because that's when there's clusters of people. The midgame is actually, believe it or not, only laggy as shit instead of unplayably laggy because everyone's killed enemies that were close by or spread out to not die.

Well Caspian border is about 1.5 KM, so ultimately we would be talking 1/5 the size of Battlegrounds map so far

All that would be needed to really flesh out the mode is a few more pockets of better buildings so a lot of the open areas in Caspian and Firestorm are now 100% viable places to play

However what you would get is a variety of a handful of maps that work with 64 players - for BF3, Caspian Border, Firestorm and Kharg Island would 100% work, with maybe Norshar Canals and maybe Tehran Highway? The rest of the maps would work super easily with a smaller player count.

What I'm suggesting isn't, necessarily, standalone, but it'd be a more streamlined version of the Battle Royal mode accessible as a simple option in a menu. It's a game mode that would probably be way better received than half the crap they do put into the game, and it would be a much faster paced version where you don't spend 50% of the time running around a massive empty map outrunning the gas

Okay so basically, if we look at the BF maps - out of all the existing maps you would obviously have to modify the playspace a little bit (like on Caspian Border, putting a lot more buildings around the airfield, more shacks in the forest, etc)

But on Caspian you get very close to 2x2 KM, so 4 square KM, and that's on a few maps

On PUBG, when we look at the map, it's 8 by 8 km, but the surrounding squares on the map are virtually all water with little gameplay. So really, 6x6 real playable game space, which gives you 36 square km.

Considering we have 64 players vs 100 players, and one thing we DO know about PUBG is that matches go on a little too long in the early stages (viable top tier strategy right now is to just drive away, avoid combat, and loot for the first 5-10 minutes of gameplay) and a little too quickly in the end game stages (map resizes too frequently, too fast, and damage on resize is insane)

So when you compare a roughly 36km square play space, with a 4km play space, and then consider that there are multiple maps you would get in Battlefield (2-4 maps are fucking huge enough to work in Vanilla alone, let alone all the DLC maps) - it wouldn't take much work at all to get a Battleroyal working on Battlefield. It would be a faster paced, slightly more arcadey version, that you don't have to spend full retail price on.

The question really becomes how deep do they want to go with it. Do you just find random loadout kits around the map? Or do they modify the game a little bit so there is a similar loot system in place - You find "gadgets" around the map that are all limited use, you can find attachments and move them around between guns, etc.

Not really. They perform 100% different roles. A Kar98 with a scope at 200m plus is always going to be the better option to go with. The thing is a rifle can perform in a general purpose role, and do the ranged shit easily. You have a rifle that can do short, medium and long range work, and then when you identify you need to use a long range tool, switch to it.

Battlefield doesn't have all that interactive loot either, which is a big cause of the slowdown. The word is it renders when you look at it even if you can't see it, which is why looking towards cities is such a PITA. That is stuff they can work on and get working better.

The loot literally does fuck all for performance. The issue is that Battlefield is optimized, in the sense that have a smaller play space and cut corners to make it LOOK good. A simple example is that in PUBG, when you are looking at that mountain in the distance, they try really hard to keep it looking consistent with the foliage and what not because it is playable space. If you look at a mountain in the distance of Battlefield, it might be out of play and they've taken measures to make it only look good at a distance, saving resources.

It's really hard to describe without getting into an overly technical discussion, but ultimately because their play space is a bit more limited they have more control over how they set it up and how much detail they have to show at distance.

If you compare a medium magnification scope in PUBG to Battlefield, you notice shit at distance looks way, way worse in BF compared to PUBG.

The problem with H1Z1 is that it's never going to get any better, the devs had big plans for the game but after being sold from Sony to Daybreak they basically stopped caring, partly due to the fact that half the company was fired.

H1Z1 is what it is and it's not going to get any major changes that add anything to the game or fix any of the major flaws (car1z1). The playerbase only exists because it's a good streamer game and the chinese, now that streamers are moving on to a new game that isn't as frustrating as H1Z1 it's going to start wavering. Right now pubg runs like ass and has issues with laggy servers but once the optimization patch hits the playerbase could explode.

This patch will be deployed for both clients and servers Thursday, April 13, 5PM KST/1AM PDT/8AM UTC and is expected to take approx. 1 hour to complete.

Config Changes
Fixed configuration files (ini) so that it cannot be used to hide trees, grass, etc.
Prevented adjusting the FOV by changing the game settings file (ini).
FOV will be adjustable from the settings menu in-game in a future update.

Sound
Fixed an issue with door sounds playing at low volume
Adjusted volume of wind, rain, and footsteps
Improved the sounds for the buggy
When in rainy weather, you will now sporadically hear thunder sounds

Bug Fixes
Added more support for non-standard aspect ratios. The game will now display at the correct FOV on aspect ratios ranging from 4:3 to 21:9. Multi-monitor environments such as Eyefinity are not recommended at this time.
Fixed an issue with the compass direction not displaying correctly
