We don't know if they knew that Ganon could hack their stuff or not. My argument is that the Sheikah used different approaches for different things when they stored their technology. Based on that I argue that they abandoned the guardian technology for warfare but did not abandon the tower and shrine system. They stopped using everything in the end.

Technology that is easy to access is meant for later use. Those easy accessed applications of ancient Sheikah technology were not hacked by Ganon. Also, guardians inside those locations are not affected by Ganon's hack. Guardians located outside of shrines but otherwise still enclosed by structures, like those in the labyrinth, are under Ganon's control.

Am I the only one that finds the complete lack of intricate cave systems in BOTW strange? I mean they gave us all the grandeur of a real world and left out all the comfy cubby holes and secret underground paths that nature would have tons of. they spent all that time going the extra mile on the world but there's no caverns at all. what's the deal nintendo?

I've seen it brought up before and it's definitely a major exploration aspect that's missing from the game. I'm willing to bet they thought about it but decided not to since it would likely add months on to the dev time to map out intricate caverns. We do have the occasional grotto to explore, but whole "underworld" segments would be a huge step up from that.

They also seemed to stress the whole overworld and exploring the various biomes of Hyrule, so a focus on underground segments might not have fit in with the atmosphere. Hopefully it's something they'll put time into next game.

TP Hyrule would be okay (once you clean up the zones of Twilight) if Kakariko wasn't dead. The Castle Town is lively.

But for how destroyed Hyrule is in BotW we have more settlements and NPC's than ever before. In most Zelda games you have 1 central town (like Castle Town in OOT/TP or Kakariko in LTTP, or Skyreach in SS)... and that honestly might be it (or in LoZ there are no towns at all), or in like OOT there's A Zora town, a Gerudo Town, and a Goron Town, and A Kokiri village, and Kakariko. TP just had Goron, Zora, and Ordon Village, and Kakariko.

This has those racial cities (and Koroks replacing Kokiri) plus the Rito racial city, Kakariko, Hateno, and Laurelin, plus all the stables (which count as small settlements)

The linearity I'm not sure about, but they'll definitely do 3 things.

Not him but yeah I literally walked and did everything by foot. Had zero desire for horses aside from getting power horse and wisdom horse. Whistle running with a 3 speed potion was all I needed.
