The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.
Whether or not a game belongs in /egg/ is a case by case matter, however games that would belong in /svgg/, space voxel games general, are automatically considered /egg/

WebM for physicians:
>gitgud.io/nixx/WebMConverter.git

List of currently known and vaguely not as dead /egg/ games (this list is not fully inclusive and if you think a game might belong here, feel free to ask):
>Algodoo
>Avorion
>Besiege
>Chode - Children of Ded Earf
>Empyrion - Galactic Survival
>Factorio
>From the Depths

>KOHCTPYKTOP: Engineer of the People
>Machinecraft
>REM
>Robocraft
>Robot Arena 2
>Scrap Mechanic
>SHENZEN I/O

Games that are definitely not /egg/:
>Minecraft
>The general that quite literally cannot be named. The Mexican scam artist one. With the shitposters. Fuck off.
>Hearthstone, found in the hearthstone general, /hsg/, not in this general.

Information about these games, such as where to get them if they're not on steam, trailers, /egg/ conquered/hosted servers, and other shit can be found in this pad:

Pic is the 11 block escape ship. Though I've landed a 6 block with those supplies on board. Really hard to land a one direction thruster ship.

>in terms of supplies
Vague phrasing.

Regardless, you're probably still far beyond what would be considered "minimal".
For example, by removing the oxygen generator in favour of a large number of (pre-filled) oxygen bottles, you can significantly cut down on mass (provided cargo volume permits).
The empty bottles can then be scrapped in an assembler for nickel (enough for 6 motors), meaning you have to worry less about finding it early on - leaving you more time to focus on iron and ice.

Assuming you don't intend to scrap any blocks (pre-existing or newly built), you'll need to carry supplies for one solar panel, one assembler and one arc furnace.
A battery would be optional, but I see you're bringing power cells. Further, you'll need enough spare computers for a refinery.
Provided you don't weld any blocks fully, that means your inventory should include:
>264 steel plates
>62 construction components
>3 large steel tubes
>12 motors
>132 computers
>4 displays
>120 power cells
>64 solar cells

Given that it's a lot less than what you're actually bringing, I do wonder what you intend to build.
I'm going off the block costs on spaceengineerswiki, and not the actual ingame values - I hope they do not differ

Tell me /egg/, how come I can throw an aluminum beer can into a fire and it will burn and turn to ash, instead of melting into metal goo?
>>
>>173121161
because aluminum is just going to oxidize at that temp, oxides are stable as fuck bro. You could probably get it into a molten state if you had a high enough temp so that an oxide wouldn't form, but the aluminium is probably ionized by that point

You do realize that anything in the vicinity of an incoming APFSDS strike gets completely buttfucked right
That's not something you survive. The naval railgun will completely core any vessel afloat. Sniping engines, computers, VLS cells and the con will very much be a thing.
>>
What kind of targets are they even supposed to use a naval railgun for? You'd think with the anti-ship missiles available by the time the railgun enters service they won't get within 100 miles of whatever they wanted to shoot.
>>

How are they supposed to hit anything when they'll never get into firing range? At max range we're probably talking accuracy of like within 100meters which isn't very useful.
>>
>>173140179
Wasn't there some guidance package for projectiles in the works? Like the one for old unguided bombs?
>>
>>173120859
Some of the difference is me rounding up. Like the 3 large steel tube became 5.

The escape pod is designed to be able to survive in space and land on a planet. So that is why it has the oxygen generator.

Our biggest difference appears to be steel plates and construction components. Not sure why on the later, but the steel is for building a base platform. Also there seems to be a minor difference between game and wiki.

Also it should be noted that this won't work in multiplayer because generally you need a large beacon and 40 radios for a large beacon is heavy.

Heat thats heated up with other heat is actually hotter than normal heat, putting out far more heat which can then be used to power systems that also put out more heat.

if you put signals on tracks, it will segment the track, ie. the signal divides track into 2 parts, before and after said signal. signals are always on the same side of rail, if you happened to place a signal on the other side, it's ignored when going "this" way, only trains passing in opposite direction will adhere.
if signal is red, train may no pass, if signal is green train may yes pass
signals change if there is train (or it's part) in the block after the signal.
chain signals are slightly different, they still partition the track as normal ones, but their signal is just a copy of the signal before them.
what you want to do: partition whole track into segments the length of a train (loc+4wags, since you won't want to change it later), use normal signals.
replace signals before crossings with chain sigs
>I think I'm retarded.
you know what? don't make crossings, just simple loops

Think I got it now anon, thanks.
It's normal that I have 2 signals at every waiting point facing opposite directions, right?
If I only use one signal facing left, any train that gets to the stop on the left stays there saying "no path", even though the other side of said signal is free.

Twin signals mean that trains can go both ways. You need twin signals for single rail tracks.

Generally it's easier to just use twin one way rails. Fewer rail signals to diagnose and it increases total train capacity to full retard levels.

What if we have an /egg/ with realistic component models. Instead of having magic wheels that just turn, now we have an engine, transmission, and hydraulics for steering. Oh and the engine has a realistic heating model so it needs a radiator or it ends up being fucked.

Now the fun part is we have these components fail if they get shot at. Get shot in the radiator and coolant starts leaking, which can cause your engine to overheat if you aren't careful. Get a hydraulic line shot and now you have to reconfigure your hydraulics to stop the leak so you can continue steering.

Some flight simulators do stuff like this.

Question!

Wouldn't railguns be useless on sea level at long ranges? I mean, it goes so fast, so wouldn't it escape earth's gravity and curviture and you'd have to physically see your target in order to hit?

I'm no scientist, but wouldn't the benefit of range be negated by not being able to shoot past the horizon related to the railgun?

With really powerful railguns at max power, yes. The good thing about railguns is that you can choose how much power you want. You won't hit as hard as you could, but you'll be able to hit targets almost anywhere.
>>

Do the starter ships in the spengies server actually get removed or does that mssg always come up regardless?
>>
>>173232832
It depends on the server on how they are removed, but generally in survival and multiplayer you have to make the spawn ship permanent with a merge block. So build a merge block on your ship. Then build a sep merge block not connected to the ship with a control panel. Using the panel make sure it is a station and rename the grid. Then get in the ship and push them together. It will merge and your temp ship with be permanent and a station and named the same as you entered.

from what i've heard, last time they did the great company streaming fiesta they asked some uncomfortable questions to se lead and he admitted wheels are fubar, so they are redoing them from scratch, this looks like first of keencode's iterations of new wheeling, that can handle something sliding and skidding instead of instaflips.
As usual with keencode the very first unfinished prototype will be the best, all the "improvements" will only introduce more bugs

When the most powerful navy on the planet is moving to 'distributed lethality', it is more than a meme. The navy is moving towards smaller packs of smaller ships that can punch above their weight class, because they are starting to realize our current naval doctrine puts every egg into two baskets (carriers and subs)

Go big or go home.

Guys how the fuck do I get into From The Depths?

I have 50 hours in this game so far and the campaign still leaves me clueless.

I designed a cool ass base with cruise missiles and extreme-close-range reverse launched missiles that are capable of hitting ships that are touching the base.

I made a pretty cool destroyed that hits 15m/s, costs 14k res, and fires volleys of 30 medium-range missiles at once.

I made a pretty big submarine, perfectly balanced, smoothest dives and resurfaces I've seen (doesnt even stray a single meter from the target altitude when dived), has variable dive depth, can launch 24 missiles from 72m below the surface, and launches 8 torpedoes that can travel for around 6-7km. It costs about 24k.

But I dont know how to play the fucking campaign.

I build my base, build a sub (24k) and a recovery ship for mining (10k) and go take over the first resource point to the east. I put two recovery ships on it, and a couple of frigates (8k each, 6 missiles and some repair tentacles)

Problem is, the fucking DWG just WONT STOP ATTACKING THAT FUCKING POINT

I'll always lose the battle or just barely make it out after like 3-4 battles in the course of an hour or so until my recovery fleet gets blown up before even hitting 10k res. so I can't even bring it home.

What am I doing wrong? It seems like I'm always really short on resources and I can't get it from anywhere other than my fucking base at 6res/sec

I thought maybe I could give my recovery ships an ACB that turns off the pumps and sinks them when enemy ships get close and then just use one of my subs (theyre fucking invincible against the DWG) but I cant get my recovery ships to sink

Do I turn off localized resources? Do people play with localized resources on? I can't find info anywhere and the few posts I've seen say "turn local resources off its bad"

Do I build a single big ship in place of really small ones to defend my recovery fleets?

Help me /egg/

Go after a couple of the other DWG squares to the north while your initial base accrues resources. By the time you've bullied the DWG out of the immediate area then you might have enough to put down a solid base over the eastern resource point. The DWG might also waste time trying to take back the other empty squares, but I'm not sure

Mostly normal metal and light alloy frame.
Top speed 36 m/s on even ground and maybe 30 on rough terrain.

Question for anyone who's recently tinkered with shells, can you get the same effect as HEAT from frag shells that have a 1 degree cone, and in general what kind of shell would you suggest for a 400mm land gun?

Non-combat ships should never even stray near hostile waters.

If your sub can kill anything the DWG can shit out, then just dump subs on them.

Is FtD the best game in this general?

The writing and shit in the campaign is super weird, considering you're a robot. And the entire game, probably thanks to both the unique visual design and the repetitive music tracks, feels almost dreamlike.

I've definitely gotten more entertainment out of it than the other popular games here. The whole voxel/RTS crossover thing is pretty cool and I could fuck around with the designer forever.

It's missing is decent multiplayer though. The only reason I started playing it originally was the expectation of MP in the future because I was a sad, sad spengies addict, but unlike spengies the single player game turned out fairly playable.

you actually compiled the damn thing? I'm surprised. If you're ready to go further down the compiling random code you found on the internet rabbit hole, you might need to compile the stuff to actually design the tank to provide information to run the simulation:
http://cps-vo.org/node/5834/browser

>>with only the barest of dry documentation
Well during the competition where DARPA had autists design tanks, using online tools and stuff, the documentation they provided for said tools was absolutely awful. And the tools were in development during the competition(early access!) and scoring metrics changed constantly.

Honestly, it probably just be better to gank their penetration models and put those into your own egg.

The AVM component models and resource libraries are probably worth downloading if one wants to make a tonk /egg/. IE a bunch of CAD models, specs, and modelica models of tonk parts that are made to be lego'd together into tonks.

You've just been randomly selected to be on the committee for bugfixing the human body. Since it's a committee, you only get to make one change each (yeah I know, committees are shit like that).

Your only limitations are that it needs to be:
>Not breaking the laws of physics (i.e. no laser eyes)
>Organically viable (i.e. no titanium skeletons)

However, it's advisable that you don't do anything that would easily degrade in under 80 years. We're not trying to cause more problems here.

This could be due to unintended (see: long list of keen fuckery) or intended causes, including but not limited to:
>medbay turned off
>spawn ship deleted
>insufficient power
>asteroid collision
>space slavs

But you'd be able to narrow these down, because you have of course saved the GPS location of your base and travelled there.
What did you find? You did save the GPS, right?

Are we? I guess someone forgot to give the memo to this guy, woops!

>In the past few years, the Polar Star’s crew worked through approximately 12 to 13 miles of ice in an effort to reach McMurdo Station. This year, there was more than 60 miles of ice to break, with thickness ranging from two feet to more than 10 feet.

>“We experienced a significantly larger ice field this year compared to the last several years,” said Capt. Michael Davanzo, commanding officer of the Polar Star. “In several areas, the ice was under considerable pressure and covered with several inches of snow, slowing our progress. Despite these challenges, the crew worked around the clock to prepare the resupply channel before the arrival of the first ship.”

Will it take a tsunami through your front door to convince you that emissions are not a sustainable solution?

Do you think the world is flat too?
>>
>>173378630
And the UK Antarctic Halley base has been moved multiple times because of unstable ice that is melting/forming cracks.
In either case using one example to make your case is bad science. If I were to pick an example of us destroying the planet with global warming it would be coral bleaching.

Ever designed a missile that can actually be launched mid-combat? Whenever I try it with either stock or my own designs the faggot missiles burn through all of their fuel long before reaching the target and simply fly past it.

Try fucking with a custom guidance. You can set them roughly like real missiles, and you can even tell them to stop burning in the middle phase, or tell them to burn real fucking slow.
>>
>>173384996
I've used them before when testing ridiculous heavily armored space battleships against each other, but that was at close range. Missiles are fucked in general when it comes to firing their engines, they start burning through their fuel even when not launched in combat but at least there you can shut down their engines temporarily.

But anon, Zion control room was, in fact, in cyberspace. The "bridge" should then look like a bunch of terminals in a windowless room.
You then either see the ship in third-person or look through a camera. You can also replicate Zion control room it, to an extent, with bunch of displays showing various info about the ship and cameras looking at them. You then operate whatever is assigned to the toolbar. All this is, unfortunately, only somewhat viable in multiplayer.

Africa isn't a nation. When you think about Europe or North America, even Asia mostly, you can definitely say that they're industrialized.

Africa, on the other hand, is 90% desert with tribes and small villages where people strip a tractor for parts to afford an ox who can plough the fields. I wouldn't call that 'industrialized'.

there's a heat luring thing for missiles but sonar you might be out of luck. You can make tordeoes that seek other torpedoes however.

Antimissile missile warheads, you can't lure them away with flares, because they don't give a shit about heat, so you can only detroy them before they hit you

I remember one time I designed a sci-fi Aztec soldier, which was basically the usual ambiguous dark-grey armour but in the shape of traditional Aztec warrior stuff, plus a visor (I think), and replaced any feathers (and the obsidian blades) with ambiguous blue plasma blades. It was pretty cool.
Then again that was back when I was in school, so if it still exists then it's buried somewhere in stuff I haven't seen for years.

The hoax is blaming pollution on fossil fuel. The reality is that industrial waste is far fire insidious, reckless and has lasting damage we can measure today.

CO2 levels - anything hydrocarbons. That means the entire fossil fuel industry and literally anything that burns anything at all with carbon in it, which takes up most things we do burn.
Emissions - anything that burns anything else at very high pressures or very high temperatures, because nitrogen is fucking everywhere.
Pollution - Fossil fuel industry doesn't even register on that scale directly, though the petrochemical industry is part of it. Electronics industries are a big pollutant, and we can't really get rid of those. I guess you can count oil spills as pollution, too.

This has been a quick reminder by some asshole.

Query: will future versions of rem feature turret building? I find that having the turret being part of the gun itself kinda detract from good turret armor design, also would make casemate mount kinda pointless.
Unless you are planning to make the bigger, meaner guns in casemate format, though i'd still like to have the option to get, dunno, a 200 mm APFSDS and building my craft so that it can either mount it in forward position (more armor, more structural integrity to deal with the recoil) or on a turret (can turn 360, probably slow turning since it weighs a ton, higher position, less armoring to not weigh down the vehicle as much)

Also, will there be rockets/missiles/explosives, ammo selection (HEAT, HESH, KEP, etc) and more "exotic" weaponry (dunno, a sci-fi particle beam looking thing that sucks power like there is not tomorrow but is decently powerful and hitscan)?

We've described this at length. Yes. You will build the turret. You will feed the gun manually, the gun will not be fed with magic. Yes, there already exists differentiated ammo selection with more to come. Yes, exotic hand-wavium weaponry is planned for later teirs when we get to a content phase.

We have a long line of podcasts talking about all of this and more.

If only we were able to manipulate the growth of those mutated tissues... Imagine what would it be like if we could regenerate or completely regrow lost organs at a speed of an aggressive cancer.
I do, however, have a problem even with that kind of self-repair - should you lose your brain tissue you will lose everything stored in it.
What could you use to replace the brain as the memory storage? It shows itself as a very decent computer, but when it comes to memory - the most important and defining thing for a person, it is woefully lacking.

You can only cram so much redundancy in a brain before it starts affecting performance. Besides, it still remains rather fragile.
Nevertheless, it's a step in the right direction.

How do you deal with losing data? By making backups. The same applies here, find a way to do backups from your mind, and you'll be fine. Maybe you'll forgot what you've been doing a couple of days before the accident, but it's better than dying i guess.

>I WILL BACKUP YOUR HEAD AND SHIT DOWN YOUR BRAIN
>>
>>173439076
Technically, once you irreversibly lose your data/consciousness stream - you die. Whatever backups you made will live on, I suppose, but only as a copy, while the original perishes.
The thing about consciousness is that you, apparently, can't quantify it. It's not the information itself, rather the way it interacts with itself and the surrounding, the "order" of it, as I see it. Like a tape in a projector - no single part of the projector, nor any single frame on the tape is "you", but put it in the projector and turn it on - a consciousness will emerge... eventually.
But wait! The memory itself is important. Who you are, what you feel, how you /think/ is defined, for the most part, by your memory. Your entire sense of "self" is composed of your observations of yourself and what surrounds you, both present and past. Even if your brain remained intact and was repaired, the current "you" would be lost in a more abstract kind of demise.
