Post 1066 has fully formed kingdoms in Poland, Hungary, France, England, Scotland, these kingdoms you can attempt to diplomatically marry into and form personal unions, without war, which is wha makes this game unique and interesting.

Pre 1066 is just a bunch of illogical and arbitrary blobs caused by a broken gavelkind mechanic tearing Europe apart.

Reconquest is 25% AE versus Conquest 100% and you don't need to spend so much admin as early.

In my current WC run I was able to annex most of Muslim land without getting a single Coalition. Also you should abuse truces. Just keep cycling truces with all the people around you so they can't even form a coalition. Bascially what I did is hit persia, then go for europe, then egypt, then the steppes and just keep repeating.

Darkest hour and HoI3 are both very worth playing. DH has way better mods and diplomacy while HoI3 has way better war. Manastarving you is forcing your hand to follow the chosen patch or take radical measures, neither of which should be anywhere near your top choices to deal with mundane issue like resource distribution.

The failure comes from 4 major issue.

First, it is utopian and thus rigid. Rigid is not something you want from your economy. If factory no longer produces something useful keeping it open just cause you don't want to fire workers is a drain on the economy. This is not exclusive to socialist economics, but it is far more prevalent in them.

Second, perhaps most important, individual motivation. CEOs of megacorps surrender their life to the corporation. They work 24/7 and are on call at any hour of the night. It's a working class meme that they drink martinis and relax all the time. Those that do get replaced or go bankrupt rather quickly. Now tell me, how are you gonna make hundreds people sacrifice this much w/o economic incentives to do so? This is only the most egrigieous example, it is present all across the gradient of expertise.

Third, central planning, somewhat related to first, tho it's rigid in a different manner. If you have 2 identical, resource and equipment wise, factories and have them work for a year on the same product, you will find out that produce is not equal in either quantity or quality. Central planning demands it be equals or fails to accomodate for differences.

There is no evidence that low population, so long as you avoid extinction levels, is bad for humanity as a whole. Modern population issues come not from falling populations but from the fact that they aren't falling everywhere at an equal rate.

I.E. The major issue in the west is that while domestic birth rates fall, immigration and competition from less educated developing countries rises. Competition is largely important only to the governmetns, and as such can be happily ignored from speciate stand point. Immigration on the other hand can lead to population displacement and from there it's one short step to culture war. And there are no guarantees that culture responsible for scientific and social advances but falling behind on breeding will win that one.
