That's what I am getting at, yes. Romanticism doesn't necessarily mean you fully understand what you're idolising.

That said, I think Automata is better in that regard. Stuff like 9S memories novel being a possible metaphor for seeing your life flash before your eyes, the reconciled deceased calling you to Heaven and you having the choice whether to follow them into the Light, the uncertainty of an afterlife (maybe the Ark will reach a new world, or maybe it never will), I thought that was pretty clever.

DoA5 has some good mods and a pretty big mod scene. Resident Evil 6 and Revelations had good models too from what I remember, but that was mostly from the chinese modders. No idea, this has been bothering me forever.

We know that Devola, Popola, and other androids were made to observe project gestalt. How did we go from that to having shitloads of androids with their own lives, relationships, culture? We don't know how many there are but there are enough that keeping the machine war going to keep them happy is somehow worth it, so I imagine there must be a shitload of Androids on earth, and plenty of camps like the resistance camp the game centers around.

Where did they come? At what point in the nier timeline were they made and why? I have no idea.

Each android and robot is running their own OS and shit so yeah, it's not a bacteria, but something that screws with them.

It might be spread like a bacteria though, just by nano machines that hack into you. Anemone's logs give no indication that there were hostile machines around when her friends get infected for example.

I'm not sure if it's a PC version exclusive bug or not, or if it's even a bug, but his behavior seems to reset everytime you use Chapter Select. Which means whenever you do, you need to go and meet him for the first time again, then change zones (presumably via walking, not teleporting) and then he'll progress away from the initial status where he'll just spawn at the desert and nowhere else.
If you do what I said, you'll also trigger the second unique conversation the first time you talk to him after zoning in and out and he'll send you the "I'm bored" email after that. Even if you already have it in your inbox.
You need to do at least the talking to him once and zoning in and out part until he switches spawns. But once you do, you can just save/load spam at the Resistance Camp.

The main argument people use when claiming that 9S secretly knew the whole game is the "you want to **** 2B, don't you" line, where the **** is most commonly understood to be kill, or at least some weird combination of kill and fuck.

Personally I've always thought that, due to the way machine AI can evolve and form connections, and the fact that YoRHa unit cores are derived from machine cores, that 9S has weird lingering emotions about 2B. I don't think that when the story starts and he shows up all "nice to meet you, ma'am!" he secretly knows who she is and remembers their past. But I do think he has weird feelings about her, a combination of love and hate and fear, a weird mix of things, and he doesn't really understand why. Obviously, he eventually finds out.

The only is that this time, 2B isn't around to kill him when he gets too close to finding about the humans, and she's not around to kill him when he gets to close to figuring out what she really is, either.

It's not just records of, it contains the genome as well. Clearly, older androids cared enough about it to shoot to the moon in hopes for preserving it. It follows then that it's not just real flesh-and-blood humans they care about, just that they care more strongly about those (which is why YoRHa was invented). Androids at the Bunker still hold and voice their own opinions re: the war and the Council, 9S mocks transmissions, etc.

I will admit I might be biased because I think mind control-tier "I cannot do this" is lazy writing and stuff like Devola & Popola being programmed to feel guilt is infinitely more interesting, but I think there's plenty of evidence that androids could at the very least talk back to humans if they had good reason to do so.

They really should have expanded upon this. 2B's personality was starting to bleed into A2's by the finale. I bet Taro originally wanted to include A2's struggles of having essentially two souls locked inside the same body like Yonah's Replicant body, but had to cut it because lol no money. It fits into the whole "you'll lose the you at this very moment" theme 2B was implying before it was dropped completely because of Route C.

I think her story is two personalities combining to forge a new one. In the end, she's neither A2 nor 2B, yet she's both of them. I do wish she got a bit more screen time and it does feel like she gets a bit of a short end of the stick but overall I think her story gets through.

So out of curiosity, which ending before E do you consider as "canon"? Either C or D has to happen before all of them are repaired.

Personally, I think that choosing 2A and her cutting off 9S's arm and dying in the tower fits better. I mean in ending E, you see 9S's body with his arm still chopped off, which doesn't happen in D.

Factory is the one part he actually lost for good.
He explicitly states that he doesnt remember anything from the factory and even calls he Toobie-san as she specifically asked to not do.

The first time he met her was at the bunker. OR way before that they had another dialogue just like this, the day he actually met her for the first time must have been long ago and they had another dialogue

A2 and 2B had pretty good screentime, though I thought playing as 9S was a pain in the ass sometimes with how ridiculously edgy he got at some points.

If you read the older logs (and watched that god awful screenplay Yoko Taro wrote, I mean it would've been way better as a game), then you'd see that A2 acted a lot like 2B before she died. Having 2B's memories didn't so much make her personality merge with 2B as much as it brought back the feeling of having someone to protect and to have friends again.

I don't think it's a coincidence that 2B and A2 look identical to one another. Speaking of, was it ever explained why they have identical appearances?

I didn't mind 9S's "edge" at all, since I thought it was well justified and well-written. I read the novel but honestly didn't think A2 acted like 2B. A2 seems to me to have a "louder" personality than 2B even during Pearl Harbour. Can't speak for the stage play, haven't yet read it.
